AndyD Posted 19 August, 2008 Posted 19 August, 2008 If we lose the next 3/4 games (and I hope we don't!!!), who would you realistically like to see in charge; My top 3 would be; 1. Jim Gannon (Stockport) - My Dad's team and he is a good, young manager. 2. Martin Allen 3. John Gregory
EastleighSoulBoy Posted 19 August, 2008 Posted 19 August, 2008 Might it be a little too early for knee jerk reactions? May I urge restraint?
Micky Posted 19 August, 2008 Posted 19 August, 2008 Holy shyte... 2 games... lets all knee jerk togeather, might start a trend....
AndyD Posted 19 August, 2008 Author Posted 19 August, 2008 Might it be a little too early for knee jerk reactions? May I urge restraint? Granted, but how long do we give JP, I mean C'mon supporting Saints (which we still do!) is bloody painful @ the mo :-(
Scummer Posted 19 August, 2008 Posted 19 August, 2008 It would be someone already at the club, probably Hockaday (or Wotte).
JustMike Posted 19 August, 2008 Posted 19 August, 2008 Shearer, with £50 million to spend from our new owners :-)
benjii Posted 19 August, 2008 Posted 19 August, 2008 Firstly - aint gonna happen. Secondly - JOHN GREGORY. Are you mental?
AndyD Posted 19 August, 2008 Author Posted 19 August, 2008 Shearer, with £50 million to spend from our new owners :-) Should you be drinking so early in the day? LOL
miserableoldgit Posted 19 August, 2008 Posted 19 August, 2008 It would be someone already at the club, probably Hockaday (or Wotte). ....or RL??
bungle Posted 19 August, 2008 Posted 19 August, 2008 F*cking hell. Our fans must be some of the most negative mong-like c*ckles in existence.
Give it to Ron Posted 19 August, 2008 Posted 19 August, 2008 It will be Hockaday the groundwork on the OS was done pre-season...its what we do promote the decent coaches into a role they can't hack we have a history at it!
JustMike Posted 19 August, 2008 Posted 19 August, 2008 Should you be drinking so early in the day? LOL I must have been dreaming then
Master Bates Posted 19 August, 2008 Posted 19 August, 2008 Misleading title, someone change please, I thought Dr Who was about to be appointed our manager for a second there.
alpine_saint Posted 19 August, 2008 Posted 19 August, 2008 It would be someone already at the club, probably Hockaday (or Wotte). Yep.
bjk Posted 19 August, 2008 Posted 19 August, 2008 We'll get our first point on saturday then beat Blackpool next week putting us into mid table and we'll all be happy.
EastleighSoulBoy Posted 19 August, 2008 Posted 19 August, 2008 Nigel Pearson? We wouldn't get NP, not after the way this board sh@ on him!
Charlie Wayman Posted 19 August, 2008 Posted 19 August, 2008 Poortvliet has had his chance, time to move on. He was useless second half against Brum, no idea what was going on, on (and off!) the field. It all looks one dimensional, one size fits all football with nowhere to go when it doesn't work.
BotleySaint Posted 19 August, 2008 Posted 19 August, 2008 If Poortvliet doesn't do well here - he can hardly be blamed since almost everyone who is worth anything is being flogged off to recover our financial position. I doubt even Sir Alex could keep us up if we keep selling like we are now.
buctootim Posted 19 August, 2008 Posted 19 August, 2008 Ooh. We've lost two games by one goal, lets sack the manager - and then some numpties agree "yes JP has had his chance ". Some of these posts are sub moronic. As Sterve Grant said yesterday, Saints fans, as a group, have descended into being the most negative, short sighted in the country. Get a grip.

He was useless second half against Brum, no idea what was going on, on (and off!) the field. It all looks one dimensional, one size fits all football with nowhere to go when it doesn't work. I hope you're not being serious?
SaintDonkey Posted 19 August, 2008 Posted 19 August, 2008 Jan Poortvliet. With no money the only thing any manager can do is try and get the players they have playing decent football, Jan's done that so far and I'd give him a season. Even if it ends in relegation it'll hardly be a surprise and I can't see anyone doing better to be honest.
Petersfield Saint Posted 19 August, 2008 Posted 19 August, 2008 As for the Shearer idea, why? If a new board with lots of money comes in they'd be foolish not to give this system time and money. I don't want us lumbered with another unsustainable structure to cripple us in the future. Nor do I want a manager using us a training ground for his Newcastle career. Couldn't agree more

After three games? You're joking right?
Red and White Army Posted 19 August, 2008 Posted 19 August, 2008 If we lose the next 3/4 games (and I hope we don't!!!), who would you realistically like to see in charge; With fans like you, Saints don't need any enemies.
paris Posted 19 August, 2008 Posted 19 August, 2008 If i'm really honest i'd say let's stick with JP and Wotte for the moment ,i like what they are now doing with the reserves playing on Mondays for example it's refreshing ,i'm sure there's more to come give them time to implement their system's etc .The fact we're selling off everything that moves can't help even the best manager in the world would find it hard putting out a good team at the mo .
mickyp Posted 19 August, 2008 Posted 19 August, 2008 i will give this sytem time but if the time does come why not try someone like steve clarke? he would have good link wth prem clubs for loan
Wes Tender Posted 19 August, 2008 Posted 19 August, 2008 There are a couple of managers in the local Tyro league who would do it for half of what JP and Wotte are earning. That's got to be attractive to Mr "never mind the quality, feel the width" Lowe. There are further advantages too. They are used to managing youngsters in this country, although of course at a lower level and if the Dutch total football experiment has failed, they can easily revert the team to the typical English style of play that everybody is comfortable with. Also they have the contacts that can produce a conveyor belt of cheap local youngsters who would bleed red and white; apart from those who have since taken to following Arsenal, Liverpool, ManUre and Chelski and maybe even the Skates of course.
Long Shot Posted 19 August, 2008 Posted 19 August, 2008 Firstly - aint gonna happen. Secondly - JOHN GREGORY. Are you mental? Give me JP anyday over Gregory
Weston Super Saint Posted 19 August, 2008 Posted 19 August, 2008 Dodd and Gorman. Or failing that God and Doorman....
derry Posted 19 August, 2008 Posted 19 August, 2008 Bloody rediculous juvenile thread. One of the most stupid comments possible.
La BoIS Saint Posted 19 August, 2008 Posted 19 August, 2008 According to Oddschecker (last night anyway) Poortvliet is joint fav with Curbishly to be sacked first. Around 5/1.
Weston Super Saint Posted 19 August, 2008 Posted 19 August, 2008 Bloody rediculous juvenile thread. One of the most stupid comments possible. I bet parties round your house are a hoot!
NickG Posted 19 August, 2008 Posted 19 August, 2008 looking like getting best football for a couple of years with lowest playing budget - don't think the manager is the problem!
Wes Tender Posted 19 August, 2008 Posted 19 August, 2008 Bloody rediculous juvenile thread. One of the most stupid comments possible. Lighten up. It's a great opportunity for a bit of gallows humour.
Give it to Ron Posted 19 August, 2008 Posted 19 August, 2008 Crap rumour anyway, but how do you know Hockaday couldn't hack it? Because Gray and Wigley didn't? Bit of a strange way to think. If you keep appointing youth coaches, eventually one will do well, so why not the next one? They'll all entirely different people afterall, nevermind the fact that Gray and Wigley had to contend with premiership expectations. Agreed its all crap and just hypothetical anyway.....Hockaday has never been number one but apart from Watford who play a different style totally to us where has he done well? Gray and Wigley also had far greater resources than many of the managers/coaches than others and still couldn't hack it nor could Dodd or Gorman. As I said all crap anyway and I was impressed on Saturday and believe if we get points on the board soon we will start to zoom up the table and do well this year....I just have major concerns over the strength of the squad.

John Gregory Gannon is a good manager and the team plays decent football, but JP will be around for the season irrespective of what we do. The only way he will go if he gets fed up of the whole situation at Saints.
