krissyboy31 Posted 10 February, 2009 Posted 10 February, 2009 I will not condone their alleged actions but equally I will not condemn them either until I am aware of the FACTS... Footballers, Coppers, Deputy Prime Minsters are first and foremost human beings and it is inherent in most human beings, rightly or wrongly, to lash out when being attacked I agree with this. We don't know what happened, if indeed anything happened. In general, if someone attacks someone else, it's within their rights to defend themself but to lash out for name calling or petty abuse is unaccepable.
OldNick Posted 10 February, 2009 Posted 10 February, 2009 If we were out and a bloke came up and started dishing out a lot of stick about your work,(of course we dont know in what context the abuse was ) it wouldnt matter how much your wages were you may lash out, especially if the person was aggressive and drunk.Of course he may have been sober and non aggressive and so then they would beo ut of order if they did anything.

Footballers, Coppers, Deputy Prime Minsters are first and foremost human beings and it is inherent in most human beings, rightly or wrongly, to lash out when being attacked Yes you are right, but, as i was saying earlier why has someone from the club not taken responsibility to tell these youngsters, by all means have a night out and relax, but be aware as to where you go, be descreet.Out on the streets are a lot of disgruntled fans, who are hurting for being 2nd from bottom of the league, last thing they want to see is players ****ing it up, if that was what they were doing.Fans want to see that the players are hurting too.
saint_stevo Posted 10 February, 2009 Posted 10 February, 2009 http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/news/4114223.Man_has_part_of_nose_bitten_off/ ?

1976_Child Posted 10 February, 2009 Posted 10 February, 2009 Who nose? are you sure it didn't happen in Bittern?
INFLUENCED.COM Posted 10 February, 2009 Posted 10 February, 2009 Yes you are right, but, as i was saying earlier why has someone from the club not taken responsibility to tell these youngsters, by all means have a night out and relax, but be aware as to where you go, be descreet.Out on the streets are a lot of disgruntled fans, who are hurting for being 2nd from bottom of the league, last thing they want to see is players ****ing it up, if that was what they were doing.Fans want to see that the players are hurting too. once_bitterne Posted 10 February, 2009 Posted 10 February, 2009 http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/news/4114223.Man_has_part_of_nose_bitten_off/ ? Nothing to do with this allegation as the BWP/McG thing was said to have taken place at the Giddy Bridge.
Weston Super Saint Posted 10 February, 2009 Posted 10 February, 2009 If we were out and a bloke came up and started dishing out a lot of stick about your work,(of course we dont know in what context the abuse was ) it wouldnt matter how much your wages were you may lash out, especially if the person was aggressive and drunk.Of course he may have been sober and non aggressive and so then they would beo ut of order if they did anything. LOL. So it's fine to beat up a drunk person, but not a sober one
INFLUENCED.COM Posted 10 February, 2009 Posted 10 February, 2009 So it's fine to beat up a drunk person, but not a sober one No.............just easier
OldNick Posted 10 February, 2009 Posted 10 February, 2009 LOL. So it's fine to beat up a drunk person, but not a sober one I didnt say beat up but lash out.A drunken person in your face is more likely to assault you
derry Posted 10 February, 2009 Posted 10 February, 2009 We should wait and see how this unravels. In any event I suspect the Saints players will now get the appropriate advice as these headlines are on the front page. I should think the club are cringeing with embarassment at the headlines, especially with the circumstances the club finds itself in.
Weston Super Saint Posted 10 February, 2009 Posted 10 February, 2009 I didnt say beat up but lash out.A drunken person in your face is more likely to assault you What does lash out mean? Is there a difference between lashing out at someone and physically assualting them?
Legod Third Coming Posted 10 February, 2009 Posted 10 February, 2009 Actually, an eye for an eye makes both sides function with only one eye, thus realising the consequences of their actions. Not blind, but educated and now changed for the better. You're clueless if you have no idea how retaliation and retribution works. What works is having standards and abiding by them and punishing those who don't. Someone screamed abuse at a player (allgedly), they hit him (allegedly). Get it? Violence proliferates.... so if you blind me in one eye, you'll be blind in both.
OldNick Posted 10 February, 2009 Posted 10 February, 2009 What does lash out mean? Is there a difference between lashing out at someone and physically assualting them?Personally if it is a unprovoked attack then it is entirely wrong. If they felt under threat and retaliated first I have no problem. What right has a fan to come up and shout abuse during fotballers social time?.They are paid to perform on the pitch and during club time, the problem is fans think we own them as well. I may be over reacting but if as i imagine it was a fan gobbing off to them and in an aggressive way i can understand if they did lash out, Im not saying it is right but i understand. The same went when that man shot a burglar in norwich, I understand why he did it but dont think it was neccessarily right.
trousers Posted 10 February, 2009 Posted 10 February, 2009 They've now added "Southampton players in controversy >>" above the "Saints stars in punch-up claim" headline but it is linked back to the Echo home page rather than to an article.
Mr Sparky Posted 10 February, 2009 Posted 10 February, 2009 Article is indeed on the front page of early edition of Echo. Only says that said lad has alleged attack, and that police are enquiring. I only picked it up quickly whilst in shop, I wouldnt pay for that paper anyhow. (no boobs in it)

Thedelldays Posted 10 February, 2009 Posted 10 February, 2009 I agree with you. They get paid vast sums of money for doing not a lot, and with that comes a responsibility. You CANNOT parade the team around a hospital giving presents to kids at Christmas time, and all the other stuff they do in and for the community, AND allow them to behave like the other yobs on the street. They have a position of responsibility in the community whether they like it or not, and as such should respect that. Fine, go out drinking [in moderation during the season I would say], but don't cross the line - which BWP doesn't even know exists is my guess quite sad that you have made up your mind already and only seem to read what you want to read... it happens in life...sad but true.
Danny Posted 10 February, 2009 Posted 10 February, 2009 It's up now (well part of it, at least). http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/news/4114732.Saints_stars_at_centre_of_bust_up_claim/
Crawley Saint Posted 10 February, 2009 Posted 10 February, 2009 I think we should take what is posted on Chav sites with a pinch of salt. For that reason i shall reserve judgement. There is a hint of hypocrasy that someone on that particular forum should be moaning about the use of mindless violence imo
OldNick Posted 10 February, 2009 Posted 10 February, 2009 It's up now (well part of it, at least). http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/news/4114732.Saints_stars_at_centre_of_bust_up_claim/ thanks Danny. I dont of the Wetherspoons place, is it by a take away bar? I would expect there must be CCTV coverage
slickmick Posted 10 February, 2009 Posted 10 February, 2009 If it is true, which I doubt, we will at last get DMG out of the team.
Saint_clark Posted 10 February, 2009 Posted 10 February, 2009 Anybody else notice the bird on the right before anything else?
trousers Posted 10 February, 2009 Posted 10 February, 2009 Anybody else notice the bird on the right before anything else? That makes three things on the front page that are out of the cup
Victor Posted 10 February, 2009 Posted 10 February, 2009 Which one will the Hampshire Constulary solve first - player assault or Wilde death threat? Still plenty to speculate on now that relegation is certain.
rallyboy Posted 10 February, 2009 Posted 10 February, 2009 think I might wait for some facts. Then we can decide who did what and whether they should have done. Or not.
Alain Perrin Posted 10 February, 2009 Posted 10 February, 2009 Or as it would have been reported on SaintsWeb.... "POLICE are investigating claims that two Saints players were involved in a street brawl with a fan in Southampton. The Daily Echo can today reveal that useless strikers David McGoldrick and accused bag snatcher Bradley Wright-Phillips are at the centre of the inquiry. The obscenely highly-paid pair were allegedly involved in an incident outside Wetherspoon’s The Giddy Bridge pub, in London Road, in the early hours of Saturday. This despite a clause in their contract preventing them from going out anywhere. The probe was launched after a 21-year-old man claimed he had been assaulted as he was making his way home from the library where he had been reading up on caring for fluffy white kittens. It is understood that he alleged that he was left covered in take-away food and nursing grazes and bruising following the incident. "They hit me at Hello", said the man whose wooden leg was also scratched in the incident. The alleged assault was reported to police and the fan is due to make a further statement on Wednesday. Hampshire police last night confirmed an investigation had been launched.
slickmick Posted 10 February, 2009 Posted 10 February, 2009 That makes three things on the front page that are out of the cup And 3 pussies.
Legod Third Coming Posted 10 February, 2009 Posted 10 February, 2009 Anybody else notice the bird on the right before anything else? Was there anything else on the page, sorry?
OldNick Posted 10 February, 2009 Posted 10 February, 2009 Was there anything else on the page, sorry? I wish I could get a copy of the Echo. What is the story on her? Is it about 2 bruisers and the damage we'd like them do to us?
SFC Forever Posted 10 February, 2009 Posted 10 February, 2009 with McG playing every week how do we ever expect to attract new fans to the club - everything about this guy stinks. he's lazy, moans non-stop has inflated opinion of himself and now 'apparently' he's a bully! What a depressing season and period for Saints. Lowe OUT! Sounds about right. No bottle against the bigger men but will happily wade in when odds are in his favour. If true it is despicable. These players are supposed to be role models.
sandwichsaint Posted 10 February, 2009 Posted 10 February, 2009 'cuts, grazes and take-away food....', I can only assume that the lad involved was battered?
offix Posted 10 February, 2009 Posted 10 February, 2009 burglaries, assault - Wow, we have some quality guys playing for us don't we?
once_bitterne Posted 10 February, 2009 Posted 10 February, 2009 Wasn't McG the player rumoured to be bullying his own team mates when he was in the youth team?
once_bitterne Posted 10 February, 2009 Posted 10 February, 2009 burglaries, assault - Wow, we have some quality guys playing for us don't we? That's why we still have BWP in the squad. He's a good utility criminal....
St Marco Posted 10 February, 2009 Posted 10 February, 2009 While i agree with a lot of people about not burning them until we know the story etc But what i find slightly wrong is that a lot of you are assuming the guy who was beat up was drunk and was being abusive so thus he was asking for it. From what i can tell from the little info they have put up the guy was going home after going to collect a takeaway, of which it ended up on him. Is it not possible that he could be innocent and the actual 2 footballers could be to blame? The way i see it is people have judged the guy who got beat up because he was being abusive, the way things are with footballers these days i would not be surprised one bit if they were ****ed up and tried to act all hard by ganging up on some guy. Would not surprise me one bit.
SoccerMom Posted 10 February, 2009 Posted 10 February, 2009 'cuts, grazes and take-away food....', I can only assume that the lad involved was battered? At least he wasn't burger-led, too. Sorry.

Minsk Posted 10 February, 2009 Posted 10 February, 2009 No wonder DMG and BWP were irritable if they were suffering from nappy rash.
Saint_clark Posted 10 February, 2009 Posted 10 February, 2009 I wish I could get a copy of the Echo. What is the story on her? Is it about 2 bruisers and the damage we'd like them do to us? She's just an advert for a competition to win some La Senza lingerie.
Saint Klaus I Posted 10 February, 2009 Posted 10 February, 2009 the story is true. i work for a top sports media company and we have all been told about it here. the police have handed us a statement

Would not surprise me one bit. I think allot of people jumped on the bandwagon of the lad being whiter than white and obviously our players were guilty as charged and should be hung drawn and quatered long before anyone thought about if any of it was true. Some suggested that if it was true the lad himself could also be the guilty party but until its either in the press or the police have been involved either side could be guilty. from there many snowballs grew and its been just about everyones fault and at the same time no-body's. It took a fair bit of time for the press to get hold of it though and it could be a case of someone crying wolf. If the police are involved like has been said at least someone will look through CCTV and we will one way or another get to find out if anything did or didnt happen.
Mr X Posted 10 February, 2009 Posted 10 February, 2009 Im not judging either of them till I know the facts as this could just be one fan searching for his fifteen minutes of fame. If it proves to be correct though BWP should be out of the club imediately he has already been given a second chance after the "handbag tm" incident and it would appear he has learnt nothing. And Mcgoldrick should be made to give a public apologie to all fans and told in no uncertain terms that hes on borrowed time. In summary we are up sheet creek as it is the last thing we need is more media coverage of our players acting like school children this could have a huge impact on our already fragile chances of staying up. I believe the club has reached an all time low, sad times ahead. When will this club ever rise from the ashes and regain its once respected status?
trousers Posted 10 February, 2009 Posted 10 February, 2009 the story is true. i work for a top sports media company and we have all been told about it here. the police have handed us a statement Just to clarify.....What do you mean by "true"? We already know the "story" (not the allegation) is true because it's been reported in the Echo....not sure if you're saying certain elements of it have been confirmed or just repeating what we already know via the Echo? cheers
