Rumour from Wolves

Torbay Saint

Sorry but what a complete nonsense. Not having a go at the original poster, he just tried to tell us what he had heard and was sceptical himself but come on......IF Morgan was at SMS it will likely be at the closed door game and only then because of the reported Wolves tie up consideration with the Hungarians.

If, as I think, Morgan was given Wolves for £1 providing he invested I bet there is a covenant that he will be unable to sell and why would he with the prospect of Premier Football and the financial riches that might bring?

I do worry about the naivity of some on this forum

I really have no idea if this is a "Whooooooooooooooooooooooooooooosh" moment or an "OMG read the thread properly LOL" moment.

Either way though,  #-o:smt046

I think that you may have just made a bit of a fool of yourself! May I suggest you read up on some Southampton history?

If Steve is prepared to come back and get us out of trouble then I think we should back the fella. Whether he pays £1 or £1billion pounds, the future of the club is at stake.

You are of course assuming it's genuine naivity rather than faux naivity for entertainment value. But, yes, real or faux naivity....one thing is for sure...we should really get out more....;)

Erm, how about the money he may be expected to stump up to fund building a PL-standard team ?

I personally would welcome this. I think that Steve Moran would offer a lot to the club. As a former player he would have Saints at heart and bring back some kind of passion to the club. I didn't realise he was in charge at Wolves though.

I agree with this. It seems people are too quick to dismiss this as a false rumour, but I don't see why - it makes perfect sense that Steve Moran would want to save his club. He showed passion when playing for us and there is no reason to think he doesn't still have that passion for Saints.

Stevie, we are waiting for you with open arms.

Sorry I can't take it anymore, I have to tell them - although it is hilarious!!

Kadeem, Wiltshire, & anyone else who thinks that Steve Moran might be buying us - could you please read OP again and note that it is Steve Morgan - hahaha lol !!!!

Clearly not!!!

I will therefore state that I am indeed an idiot and should pay more attention to other posters styles!!! Perhaps I was naive and didn't think that grown adults would come onto a duscussion forum with the sole intention of using childlike wind-ups to fulfill their obviously dull, boring and uneventful lives.

I also have a low post count so I guess by default that also makes me a plant:)

An idotic plant I am then - busy day heh?

(or are they by default the samrething?)

Don`t worry! It`s easy to get picked on by these WUM`s. It`s happened to me a couple of times before. Don`t spoil their enjoyment. It`s probably the highlight of their week.

I am not trying to wind anyone up and I am sorry I you feel I am. I am simply, like I have said before, passing on information I as told. For facebook users if you PM me I ill tell you my name and then you can 'add' me on facebook and see the message I was sent for yourself. The person who told me certainly does not know I use this forum.

Don't worry mate, I don't think anyone's accusing you of lying. I think they're saying Wiltshire Saint is doing the winding up by talking about Steve Moran.

My comments weren't aimed at you mate, FWIW I believe you are posting what you've heard in good faith.

I was referring to the 'known' wind-up merchants (clearly not known to me until today!!).

Anyways, don't let all the WUMs and negative posters on here put you off saying what you think/have heard. Some of the 'uber posters' tend to look down on posters with low post counts like us because unless you spend unhealthy amounts of time on here conducting your, meaninglees in the real world, cyber-wars/****ing contests, racking up thousands of posts you're not worthy:rolleyes:

Once you've earned your 'wings' by hitting an appropriate level of posts from all your hard-fought battles on here you'll gain their respect:)

Based on this comment, you need to lighten up a bit. People are just having some fun. Normally I respect your posts as you seem to have contacts at the club but this is a little patronising. Given the state of the club, can you blame people for clutching at the faintest glimmer of hope?

We are not all able to indulge in the "nudge, nudge, wink, wink" that you and FF have been lately but you don't need to call others naive.

OK, rant over.

Can't believe this thread has run to 3 pages.

Nobody is allowed to have controlling interest in more than 1 club. Money does not come into it. Impossible. That means it is not possible, cannot happen, despite the rumour someone texted to someone else. NOT POSSIBLE. IMPOSSIBLE. GET IT?

having said that, i think its true, cos someone down the pub tonight told me it was, and he said it is 100% inside information. The big bale-out is starting!!!!!

IF there was any mileage in this, why assume that Morgan he would want a foot in both clubs? As far fetched as it may sound, what would stop him breaking ties with Wolves BEFORE investing in Saints?

I agree that this is unlikely to happen but I don't see how the legalities are a show stopper per se.

Spoke to an ex employee last night and he was told Falsehope is making a move tomorrow, of course I said don't be ridiculous its not a Friday, however, he said there would be a new chairman, not any other who has sat in the chair before and not Falsehope, Cousins or Merrington, although he did not know who.

He, like us all, has been frustrated by the talk of Falsehopes alledged bid but hopes this will happen, for me, I feel it is too late to change the fortunes of this season and believe that any consortium will await the outcome of the season before stepping up but hey ho lets see if this is yet another false dawn

This is great news that Moran could be coming back to help us out of the mire. We've been saying we'd want a local hero and a true fan to come in and rescue us - who better than big Steve. A true professional and a great player for us in his time.

I'd say it's more important than ever that we show him how much he means to us and how much he is still loved round here. People - it is imperative that he makes the greatest Saints XI B team subs bench so he knows we still remember what a great player he was.

Vote for Steve for the sake of our club and make this happen!

Isn't it more likely that someone from Southampton would notice the ins and outs of Saint Mary's?

Not saying it's wrong or anything, just doesn't add up that a Wolves fan would notice their chairman coming in and out of a stadium in the south...

Not keen on Mick either, seems to be a poor man's Glenda in terms of man management.

You're having a laugh aren't you ... Look what we've got at the momment

An idea I had is that Morgan might me trying to buy up clubs on the cheap (Wolves a tenner and i doubt we would cost much) then get them promoted sell them on and make a profit.

Wolves get promoted?? we shall see;

They're starting to go into stall already, the nosedive won't be long afterwards.

CCC teams are quite cheap.

Ones with good support and infrastructure such as us and Wolves don't need too much money to give a better than 50/50 chance of promotion to the premiership.

Then can be sold for big profit.

As promised I attach the message I received back of the informant! He is answering my question as to where he heard that rumour from.

"The Express and Star (Wolves local paper) has a reporter who is a mate of mine (Martin Swain.) He's written about it in the paper so even though it's not gospel, you never know. He's never had any slander cases against him anyway! Would be a good way forward if it did happen."

Cheers for the update. Appreciated.

Any idea roughly when this was published and if it went in the online version? (can't find anything on here after a brief search: http://www.expressandstar.com/archive/sport/wolves/ )

cheers again

Right. This might help. It was not on line, but my friend got the article emailed through as follows:

Martin Swain

Express & Star

Monday 2nd February, evening edition

Steve Morgan, who tried to buy Liverpool in 2004 before taking over Championship side Wolverhampton Wanderers has been spotted at St Mary’s stadium this last week with a view to purchasing the club at a knock down price. Such a venture could quickly ensure Championship safety for a struggling Saints team whose only ambition currently seems to be avoiding relegation. Former Wolves chairman, Sir Jack Hayward agreed to sell all of his shares for 10 pounds (17 dollars) in total on the condition Morgan invested 30 million pounds (59 million dollars) in Wolves. A similar proposition is thought to be currently negotiated between current chairman Rupert Lowe and Morgan.

A source from Molineux on Monday said the sale of the club was expected to go through in early March.

Manager Mick McCarthy is also tipped to make the move to the south coast along with Morgan, while Managing Director Jez Moxey will stay on as chief executive at Molineux.

The club statement read: "It is intended that the new capital, over a period of time, will be used to help re-establish Southampton and Wolves as Premiership clubs. Where Wolves is Morgan’s initial concern, returning the glory days of top league football to Hampshire is on the agenda.

"Although there would be a significant amount of money there will not be an 'open cheque book' approach to signing players; instead the club would build on the current strategy of steadily and progressively developing a team of young, hungry and talented players."

Morgan made his fortune as the founder of house builder Redrow plc before selling a majority shareholding in 2000.

He is chairman of a number of privately-owned companies including, Harrow Estates plc, one of the UK's contaminated land specialists.

He came close to buying Liverpool in 2004 and is thought to still hold shares in the Anfield club.

Hayward bought Wolves for two million pounds in 1990 and has invested 50 million pounds of his personal wealth in the club.

He had been searching for a successor since September 2003.

Cheers for that. Seems strange that none of the National media picked up on this as it sounds pretty newsworthy to me. Interesting too that Swain doesn't clarify the 'owning two clubs' conundrum. Indeed, he implies that Morgan would retain a vested interest in Wolves...?

Also, it looks like the dates tie in with the "story" about the Ujpest friendly being moved to SMS to shop-window Saints to a potential investor.

Hmmmm...... (he said for the third time today)
