Legod Third Coming Posted 5 February, 2009 Posted 5 February, 2009 "We beat Reading because the fans supported us so well" says our new coach. Which explains why we have won so regularly when 18,000 of us turn up in Southampton and sing our frickin' hearts out... oh... Usual blarney from the OS, but does know one there ever learn??? And I think we can now officially fire him and simply sing louder and see results improve. Which will also improve the finances.
Andy_Porter Posted 5 February, 2009 Posted 5 February, 2009 I like to think I was more influencial than BWP for that game. Pretty stupid thing for him to say.
Tomobz Posted 5 February, 2009 Posted 5 February, 2009 I beat Reading too! Congrats aswell LTC, I always realised the players and coaching staff had nothing to do with it. We obviously need to buck up our performances for the remaining games as its our fault that we are in the relegation zone, man we suck!! Were such losers. Imagine how good the team would be with super uber fans. We're such a frikkin let down arent we.
John Smith Posted 5 February, 2009 Posted 5 February, 2009 Sounds like the fans need to get some vocal training in between games. Maybe an awareness coach could help?
Saint_clark Posted 5 February, 2009 Posted 5 February, 2009 I felt quite angry when I read that. What have we been doing every home game then, twiddling our thumbs and shouting "oh, goody!" when we score?
Tomobz Posted 5 February, 2009 Posted 5 February, 2009 Sounds like the fans need to get some vocal training in between games. Maybe an awareness coach could help? I agree, I was also thinking that maybe we need a phsychologist, nutritionist, personal trainer, voice technique coach and maybe a writer who could write us some more songs too. Maybe if the fans really work hard over the coming weeks we might be able to get ourselves out of relegation.
Huffton Posted 5 February, 2009 Posted 5 February, 2009 I felt quite angry when I read that. What have we been doing every home game then, twiddling our thumbs and shouting "oh, goody!" when we score? Considering we don't seem to score at home....
70's Mike Posted 5 February, 2009 Posted 5 February, 2009 This constant blaming of the fans , at the same time as a sort of rallying call , is having the totally opposite effect to what rupert, sorry Wotte, wants. When will they realise that if they came out and said, " we tried a new approach it has obviously not worked, we ackowledge that the fans who have attend games both home and away have given great support and we are sorry, please get behind us as we try and get out of this hole" They might just get a more positive response
beatlesaint Posted 5 February, 2009 Posted 5 February, 2009 Bugger ! I didnt beat Reading....I wasn't there. This awful season is all my fault.....I'm so sorry, I feel so ashamed............... Hang on, I didnt go to the Sheff Utd or Bristol City homes games either...and we lost them ! So, its not my fault........yyyeeeesssss ! Result ! You are a **** Wotte !
StuRomseySaint Posted 5 February, 2009 Posted 5 February, 2009 I have a feeling that over the next couple of weeks there will be quite a bit of propeganda trying to stop people boycotting etc....

callysaint76 Posted 5 February, 2009 Posted 5 February, 2009 I agree with him to some extent, although you super fans seem to think you are creating an amazing atmosphere at SMS, You are completely wrong! The atmosphere is always completely dead, which is understandable given how bad we are. Singing about pompey quite quietly for 90 minutes does not constitute outstanding support. Our supporters are far better vocally away from home, which seems to have been translated onto the pitch. Examples of this are Reading and in particular Preston where the fans lifted the side at 2-0 down and spurred them onto victory. I'm not saying that fans win matches or anything like that, but support does make a big difference. and anyone who thinks that fans don't make a difference, think back to the dell days when we actually did manage to generate a great atmosphere making it an intimidating place for opposing teams.
70's Mike Posted 5 February, 2009 Posted 5 February, 2009 LOL - that would never happen with the present lot Totally agree BUT unless they do something radical the club is going down , with crowds of less that 15000 becoming the norm, in fact the only thing likly to save us financially is the fact that most of the sides due at SMS in the coming weeks will sell out their tickets

The fact that we have only won once at home and the club is slowly being bled to death by the Askham/Lowe/Wilde axis, the support given during the 90 minutes is bloody amazing.

I wouldnt bother. The same 10 posters will slag him regardless of what he says. He actually said the support was very good, even when things arent going well. Maybe its a literacy thing.

He actually said the support was very good, even when things arent going well. Maybe its a literacy thing. No he didn't at all. And while the support at Readig was good, what was wrong with the support at Burnley? Or QPR?? Or any of the other hundreds of f u c k i n g football games he and that other clown managed to conspire to chuck away??
Big John Posted 6 February, 2009 Posted 6 February, 2009 I wasn't at Reading, as a week prior to the game I had mentioned that I was considering singing another clubs songs (it was a joke that backfired though). I spent a period of exile from singing at games and had to make do with practising in the bathroom on my own. And I am one of the best singers that we have fsure!
Saint Bones Posted 6 February, 2009 Posted 6 February, 2009 damned if he does , damned if he doesn't. I think that was attempt to rally the fans.
Thedelldays Posted 6 February, 2009 Posted 6 February, 2009 damned if he does , damned if he doesn't. I think that was attempt to rally the fans. agree just read the article and nothing wrong with it... infact, it is not far off what some say on here
Big Bad Bob Posted 6 February, 2009 Posted 6 February, 2009 And you lot call the OS Pravda, I bet you didn't get down to this bit did ya?? "It's so easy to be a fan in good times, but I respect our fans all the more because they are supportive when times are bad. If you can do that then you are a true Saints fan and I know we have a lot of them. Seems like he's praising the fans to me! But then, what do I know
Thedelldays Posted 6 February, 2009 Posted 6 February, 2009 totally agree BBB..people just read what that they want to read
a1ex2001 Posted 6 February, 2009 Posted 6 February, 2009 He could say the pope was catholic and the queens a lady and 10-20 people on here would slag him off and find some massive hidden agenda of the evil lowe. It's like reading shakespeare with an English lit grad you just can't take it at face value and enjoy it anymore.
Dicko Posted 6 February, 2009 Posted 6 February, 2009 What about the 600 of us who travelled over 4 hours to get to Burnley? We were singing at the beginning and still singing when 3-0 down after 11 minutes. This sort of crap on the OS seriously ****es me off They take us for idiots

This sort of crap on the OS seriously ****es me off They take us for idiots No they don't, they are just trying to get people to show up and support the team, nowehere in the aritcle does it say the support at other games has been crap it just emphasises that good support has helped the team to some of there best results this season. He even acknowledges that the support has been brilliant inspite of the fact were doing terribly this season. Of course don't let the facts get in the way of your morale outrage, I think the problem could be that Wotte has a better command of English than half our fanbase.
NickG Posted 6 February, 2009 Posted 6 February, 2009 There were many comments on here about how good the support at Reading was ****ing wonderful! Sounds like we won the league! COYS! Well done, sounded magnificent on the radio, well done lads and well done 4,000 travelling supporters, I wish I could have made it there today. Stayed away from the radio and prayed to the GOD of football and my look what happened. Glad to hear the fans are going mad on the radio. Great atmosphere, terrific support and a class performance from all the lads out there on the pitch. A sort of 4-5-1 going on 4-3-3 with plenty of players supporting our attacks. I just wish we could convert more chances to save from those worrying last few minutes but on this occasion the defence looked up for it. Now it's off to the pub to run some Reading noses in it. I quote a text from a Reading fan that I drink with. "We look like a pub team while you look like Barcelona". Compliment indeed. It was 4-2-2-1-1 as usual. Just got back from the game and frankly i've not seen many teams play as well as we did in the first half - we should have been out of sight at half time. Not one player had a bad game. This team is definitley good enough, if we can add consitency to the ability and potential then i firmly believe the future is very, very bright. The away support today was incredible too, if we could replicate that at home we would be in a much better position, on and off the pitch. A great day out, great performance, great support, great 3 points and a great night. GGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAATTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT The support yesterday was spot on, the same again from the lads on Tuesday and we will be fine. Schneiderlin was a different class, he really is a superb player. He will be a very good player in the future, no suprise that Arsenal want him after his performance yesterday, for the first 70 or so minutes he won everything and his distribution was very good. Far too good for this league. Chris Perry, Jack Cork, Rudi Skacel and Lloyd James where all good as well, the two full backs both really got forward to help the attack out. I was most impressed with James it was probably his best performance of the season. Yesterday was the first game I've been to this season and TBH I wasn't that bothered as I had all but lost my enthusiasm for SFC and I thought we'd be on the end of another depressing drubbing. By the time the final whistle went I had a smile a mile wide and was feeling actual excitement about the club again. We didn't just beat one of the promotion favorites on their own turf, we took the p**s for the majority of the match - both on and off the pitch. Infact I'm struggling to recall a game I've been to in the last 25 years where my expectations were as far exceeded as that one yesterday. Congratulations to players and fans - brilliant, simply brilliant. Now that I've seen that these boys can play some good stuff what they need to do is to take the confidence gained from this game and run with it. I'm crossing my fingers that yesterday was a breakthrough. It's sooooooooo good to actually feel good about this club for the first time in a long time!! I'm sorry but where did 442 come from. The formation was the same as usual if you ask me. Great win though and what a performance from the fans!
broncoboy Posted 6 February, 2009 Posted 6 February, 2009 Sick of ****ing rallying cries We are all dreadfully disapointed with the result but we are up for this next game and going to show them what we can do. Just the usual ****e.
NickG Posted 6 February, 2009 Posted 6 February, 2009 its a company's official site -they aren't going to moan about their product and say we have given up!
Danny R Posted 6 February, 2009 Posted 6 February, 2009 We have not had 18,000 singing their hearts out at any gane. There is maybe 3000 in the Northam. The rest of the ground is silent and very negative which is probably what he means.
West End Saint Posted 6 February, 2009 Posted 6 February, 2009 I was at Reading and the support was great away support is always more vocal people are more prepared to let themselves go and away support is genraly the hardcore that sing home and away. That said no one has any business critising home support every team has sections of the ground that are more vocal than others and with 1 win we havent been inspired by the team but there has been good support at every game and very little getting on players backs we have got behind the team inspite of the inept board and there dutch gamble and inspite of a inexperienced non performing team. Prehaps the board management and team should be thankful for the support they have had and start desrving it by giving everything on the pitch. UTS
Sheff Saint Posted 6 February, 2009 Posted 6 February, 2009 its a company's official site -they aren't going to moan about their product and say we have given up! No, but i reckon this is where we keep shooting ourselves in the foot. I think website needs to get much much better on the 'softer' stuff. It's lost ALL creditibilty. Even people i know that don;t come on here and are apathetic to the whole baordroom thing don't use the OS as a source for anything anymore except ticket info! It's the 21st century. You can't keep ignoring the bad things, we read them elsewhere. If Rupert was any good with comms he'd have the website 'highlighting' the negatives but turning them round in his favour, much much better. For example they could have done a piece on the March last week. Everyone knew it was happening, the OS could have said it was because of the uneasy feeling about the club's direction. They then could have lined up some cracking entertainment or offers to encourage people to the ground first. Of course we all pick through Rupert's comments with a fine tooth comb so one go in isolation isn't going to achieve anything but if he (or the comms person) kept plugging away all of a sudden you'd have a different picture of events cos you might actually trust what the website said. Not everyone would, of course. And results are the biggest thing. But in the absence of those improving anytime soon why not try the 'softer things' instead of the 'Company Website' mentatility they have at the moment. It wouldn't do any harm, that's for sure.
Mr saint Posted 6 February, 2009 Posted 6 February, 2009 Bloody hell, all he's saying is keep behind the lads during the game. Anyone who was at Reading will agree we created a great atmosphere....is there anything wrong with him saying he wants us to recreate that away from home? I for one, would quite like there to be another good atmosphere... Some people are determined to hate everything Wotte says or does just because it's Wotte. Ok, I was ****ed off when he was appointed, I didn't want him as much as any of you did, I want Lowe out etc. but give him a bit of a breat. Stop over analysing every sentance he says on the Championship/OS etc. P.s. I haven't read this thread or clicked the link so I hope this is what the thread is about. I'm sure it is though....

I have just read the article and although Wotte has overstressed importance of support at Reading, fans HELP with win no more than that, his general point that players will perform better with great support is true. One of the factors which was always quoted in our favour during long stay in premiership on 15,000 gates at Dell was that it was an intimidating place to come to as crowd so close to pitch etc.
SaintRobbie Posted 6 February, 2009 Posted 6 February, 2009 But the point is that he keeps having a go at the fans. And frankly, he has no right to. Let's blame Crouch for the mess that Lowe inherited (after the mess that Crouch inherited from Lowe)and the fans for not turning up seems to be all we hear from Lowe/Wotte through the OS and the Daily Mail. Its a stuck record of blame deflection and its just boring and insulting. Whether he has a point or not - Rule number 5 of football chairmanship is always praise the fans. I dont read this as praising the fans - its like receiving a bollocking from a really crap teacher at school you never respected. You just nod and walk away and do it again to annoy him. No respect either way, Wotte/Lowe to fans and fans to Wotte/Lowe. Won't change until one grouping leaves.

If your singing non-stop is like your full stops, no wonder we beat Reading.
