Who will you support if Saints go really under ?

AFC Southampton ?

Eastleigh ?

Bournemouth ?

Some team further afield ?

My son asked me this over the weekend. He's 8 years old and said Bournemouth.

I think I would follow any team that rose from the ashes, whatever league they are in, though for some strange reason I have a soft spot for Crystal Palace...

I would never support any derivative of Southampton FC as you would be standing on some open terraces with the numpties who through their protestations helped bring the club down. Leave them to it as it would never be the same again.

I would probably support a local team Basingstoke, Aldershot or Salisbury although I have always followed Charlton as I lived in Blackheath for many years and went to a few games and I have family in the area.

Lets hope it never comes to that so protest outside all you like but keep going and keep supporting as this is one prohecy even Crouch dare not mention and it coudl happen under his watch which would be sweet justice for his after timing and churlishness.

Close enough both geographically and grammatically ;)

Still, whatever it is in the air has drifted... :)

Ha Ha - Distance from Vienna to Perth

Distance is 13,240 kilometers or 8227 miles or 7149 nautical miles

That's a fair hike. I think Alpine will be enjoying some nice crisp weather - whereas we are coping continual 40 degree days.

You can ski here - but only in the ocean :p

In regards to the post - Bugger, who knows.. I think id just follow the english league as a whole. It wouold be a very , very sad day.

I would never, could never, support any other team. I currently "watch" Queensland Roar (what a stupid name for a football club), and next season I will "watch" the Gold Coast football team that is just starting up, But I have no passion for any other team. I barely watch the premier league on TV as it is full of money grabbing mercenaries. Looking on the bright side, I will no longer have an interrupted nights sleep every match day of the year through either getting up or staying up to check the scores...

So Jon, when did you start to support Saints?? When Rupert appeared on the scene??

All small clubs. I can't see it happening to a club our size though.

We're too good to go under...

Both are admirable sentiments, but it can happen to a club our size (and bigger - Leeds) and we're not good enough to stay up so I reckon that makes us prime for Admin or worse.

And if it happens? I couldn't see myself going to watch some diluted, regurgitated version of a team I have loved for 45 years. That love would die with the club. I would, if any, watch my local team Eastleigh.

How many clubs in history have actually gone COMPLETELY out of business, meaning that their fans have had to change allegiances?

(Before anyone says Wimbledon, that was different. The club didn't go under).

There's just no precedent in the modern British game for this happening - let's hope we're not the first . Simple market forces will ensure that a city the size of Southampton has a football club associated with it , where that club plays or which division it plays in is a entirely different question however .

No-one. I will give up major league football forever. I am getting sick of the whole over-financed shebang and mediocre players getting obscene wages. Saints are the only reason why I am watching football and if they were to go under I'd call it a day.

Would be Eastleigh as my second team already, but can't see us disappearing completely. They could then move back to their original Swaythling home and use the old Ten Acxres site as trraining and reserves.

Think I would watch more rugby and cricket anyway if this scenario did ever actually happen!

I've known bigger companies go to the wall. Saints, as Lowe always tells us, is a business first and foremost. We can go under, don't you believe it.

I agree! But I do believe that A professional football club will continue in Southampton (may be "Southampton 2009 AFC," or something similar), having to start from the bottom of the pyramid.

why, would Lowe or Wilde be there then? You really are a complete either that or you are just the worlds biggest wind up merchant

Always saints, feel pretty bad at mo though. I just hope thinks work out for the future I'd love to see rugby and football at st marys and that has got to have the opportunity for more money going into the club. Football is too much money really not sure I want overseas investment I quite like Crouch I just want stability!

Nobody. I'll lose interest in football completely. I'll turn into an ordinary person. The kind who may watch the odd international and some matches of the World Cup, but if there's a decent programme on the other side, that'll do for me. As for going to a football stadium again, you can forget it.

Agree with you their m8.

Although i live in Manchester and i can see the red Manchester united sign from my bedroom window there would never be another team for me.

You'd be down at Fratton as usual wouldn't you Sundance? Bad result for you at Fulham, enjoy your fizzy pop and administration - your debts make ours look puny in comparison.

No alternative for SFC from my viewpoint, not even sure I'd bother with football anymore. I'd spend my money on more Barmy Army tours following the England cricket team overseas instead.

Me too. I cancelled SKY recently because I have no interest in football - only in Southampton.

Without a club to support I will go and watch the boys play rugby up the road or maybe down to a local club for cheep beer but not for the game!

This, Rupert, is the said state of affairs. Not only have you disenfrachised people with your brand, you have put them off the entire category!!!!

No, never if Lowe and Wilde still have any interests or control at the club. Even without them it'll be a very hard call to spend Saturday afternoons watching Huddersfield and Lincoln and Bury... I don't even know where these places are.

The ultimate bloody nightmare, Pompey get relegated and we won't be there to greet them!

If Saints completely disappeared and no pheonix rose from the ashes then I wouldn't 'support' anyone else - there just wouldn't be the attachment.

We're going to be moving to Rainham, Kent so will be just down the road from Gillingham (I used to live there too) - would probably end up going to a few games but whether that would turn in to actual support for The Gills only time would tell.

Harlequins

Me too - maybe Wasps - I assume you mean Union?

I am almost finished with football. The PL is all about money and has almost become a closed shop. The Champions League is purely about the greed of the big-boys and hold no interest for me. They complain that they play to many games since The European Cup stopped being a knock-out cometition so want to reduce the number of teams in the PL so that they can keep the cash rolling in at the expense of the smaller clubs.

I am (sadly) just a Saints fan of over 50 years so if it doesn`t involve Saints I have lost interest, and my interest in Saints is disappearing over the horizon with it`s ass on fire.:(

My 11 year son asked me this recently. I feel kind of guilty of inflicting Saints on my two boys, especially as we make a 260 mile round trip to suffer. It's so sad. When I was 11 I had no concept of clubs going into administration or any idea who the chairman was

I hope it doesn't happen. But it's not impossible - every day I drive past a deserted Woolworth's that shows that firms you always thought would be a fixture can go out of business. And the story of Southampton Speedway strikes a chord as my dad used to ride for them.

I think I would lose general interest in going to football every week, but might go and watch our best local side - Leamington FC - from time to time. I can't help feeling that I might actually be a lot happier, and definitely wealthier.

Couple of quick questions peeps, if you don't mind me asking:

Gravesend - where in Rainham..? As I lived there for a year.

Keniworthy - My older brothers were great fans of Southampton Speedway, and everyone in the team would have been a hero to them. Who was your father..?

Cheers

********, if Saints go into league 1 then I'll still support them... the season ticket will be cheaper.

Saints will not go into administration under Lowe, we'll just be ****.

But hey what am I gonna do... go and support Pompey? Nah

I think seasion tickets might be offered at bargain prices for early renewals this year. Reckon they could go down to as little as 320£.

Could always support Stoke, as long as they changed their name to ex Saints!

Indeed - think I counted 8 ex-Saints in their squad the other day. Just need to get them to change their shorts from white to black and we're sorted.

Probably have to be the mighty Stockport County for me - I could walk to home games in 30 minutes, make a bit of a change from a 400+ mile round trip

AFC Totton...

If saints were to go dwn the pan then I would be 100% with you mate!

Totton are a club on the up people, They will hopefully be getting the go ahead on their new ground soon ( March or April ) then watch The Stags move up the leagues in years to come. The season after next they will be having derby's with Eastleigh, then The Stags will bypass them on their way to the football league!!!

Is this the final stage of your masterplan, now that you think SFC is weak enough?
