70's Mike Posted 3 February, 2009 Posted 3 February, 2009 less than 10000 whilst the snow is melting here in the city other roads are still bad
1976_Child Posted 3 February, 2009 Posted 3 February, 2009 less than 10000 whilst the snow is melting here in the city other roads are still bad i reckon tonight might be see the worst turnstiles ever at SMS. you could be right, we might see less than 10k
SaintBobby Posted 3 February, 2009 Posted 3 February, 2009 what would it take to be our lowest league attendance for 10, 20, 30, 40 years?
Rocker268 Posted 3 February, 2009 Posted 3 February, 2009 I'm going with 70's Mike under 10,000 hardly anyone outside the city will bother and with some bus services stopping at 7 people will face a long walk which they wont want to do in these conditions

Window Cleaner Posted 3 February, 2009 Posted 3 February, 2009 Im going with 12,138 How will we know how many actually turn up though ?
1976_Child Posted 3 February, 2009 Posted 3 February, 2009 How will we know how many actually turn up though ? eh? each time the turnstile turns it clicks the counter one more time. eh? The official attendance figures are precisely that: the number of bums on seats, it doesn't include STs or tickets sold which were not used.
Mole Posted 3 February, 2009 Posted 3 February, 2009 I remember being at the Dell for a night cup game (possibly against Crew?) when the official attendance didn't tally with the numbers they'd let into the ground. We decided to go posh and sit in the upper west and people were standing in the aisles throughout the ground.
S4INT Posted 3 February, 2009 Posted 3 February, 2009 I'm coming down from London on my own. My dad can't come and I've got two tickets if anyone else wants ;] Come on...it's only a bit of snow!

I don't think you're right but it probably doesn't really matter anyway. As far as I've always understood the "official attendance" is the number of tickets sold, plus any ticketless attendance (like hospitalilty)

As far as I've always understood the "official attendance" is the number of tickets sold, plus any ticketless attendance (like hospitalilty) umm don't think so. I am ***certain*** that the number is anctual souls who pass through the turnstiles. I'll ask an Orange Coat tonight.
Window Cleaner Posted 3 February, 2009 Posted 3 February, 2009 . I'll ask an Orange Coat tonight. As if they'd know ;) Mind you I'm not sure I'd count on the Daily Mail to be accurate either. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-1083630/The-truth-modern-day-attendances-How-clubs-count-missing-fans.html
1976_Child Posted 3 February, 2009 Posted 3 February, 2009 As if they'd know ;) true. good point. what's the name of the director of supporters services at the club? David .... anyone got his email address? I'll fire off an email...
saints_is_the_south Posted 3 February, 2009 Author Posted 3 February, 2009 For those using Blue Star buses to get home from the game they will be running through to the last bus tonight (they stopped at 7pm yesterday).
derry Posted 3 February, 2009 Posted 3 February, 2009 It's raining here now and the snow is melting, all the regular locals will be going as usual. Probably 13-14k.

As far as I've always understood the "official attendance" is the number of tickets sold, plus any ticketless attendance (like hospitalilty) All season tickets are counted definitely whether there or not, so I would be surprised if sold tickets weren't counted the same way.
Micky Posted 3 February, 2009 Posted 3 February, 2009 what would it take to be our lowest league attendance for 10, 20, 30, 40 years? Sorry, but is that one question or 4 questions...????
Saint_clark Posted 3 February, 2009 Posted 3 February, 2009 Well I can't go, trains don't run past Bournemouth from here.
Window Cleaner Posted 3 February, 2009 Posted 3 February, 2009 Sheffield United are bringing 8,000. more like 8.000
La BoIS Saint Posted 3 February, 2009 Posted 3 February, 2009 Definitely can't make it. Epsom station still closed so no way to get back. Although as a STH I might still be counted. Actual attendance will surely be the lowest for a league game, especially with hardly any away fans.

I mean a few inches of snow won't stop a 200 ton train will it.Or is it because the lazy bastards who drive them and sell manky sandwiches on them couldn't be bothered to turn up for work.
Sheff Saint Posted 3 February, 2009 Posted 3 February, 2009 I remember being at the Dell for a night cup game (possibly against Crew?) when the official attendance didn't tally with the numbers they'd let into the ground. We decided to go posh and sit in the upper west and people were standing in the aisles throughout the ground. I remember that. The club it got it badly wrong that night cos you could only buy a few tickets in advance. I'm sure i sat up in the Upper Westas well that night. Might have been against Lincoln though in the League Cup. I remember some sub 10k crowds at the Dell in the early 90's when the likes of Oldham rocked up.
SaintRichmond Posted 3 February, 2009 Posted 3 February, 2009 I'm going with 70's Mike under 10,000 hardly anyone outside the city will bother and with some bus services stopping at 7 people will face a long walk which they wont want to do in these conditions That's the killer for a lot of people ...... it may be OK near the ground, but B roads and the like are treacherous Well thought out by the FA I shudder to think of the mileage Lowe will make out of the low turn out of his Customers
St Will Posted 3 February, 2009 Posted 3 February, 2009 I'm coming down from London on my own. My dad can't come and I've got two tickets if anyone else wants ;] Come on...it's only a bit of snow! I'll take it, haven't bought a ticket yet, and I wanna go!
Jackie@home Posted 3 February, 2009 Posted 3 February, 2009 If it includes people with a ticket who can't go - 14,951 If it includes people actually in the ground - 11,230
Ponty Posted 3 February, 2009 Posted 3 February, 2009 I will go for just under 14k. Yeah, I'd go too if you paid me that much.
Toadhall Saint Posted 3 February, 2009 Posted 3 February, 2009 Under 14k maybe even as low as under 13K - sad really.
TheSaint75 Posted 3 February, 2009 Posted 3 February, 2009 If we got around 17.5k against Swansea who bought around 3k, add in the factor that some are scarred to go out in inclement weather we could be looking at 12k ish
LGTL Posted 3 February, 2009 Posted 3 February, 2009 Can't see many Sheffield United fans making the journey, that's for sure.
saintwarwick Posted 3 February, 2009 Posted 3 February, 2009 I'm going with 70's Mike under 10,000 hardly anyone outside the city will bother and with some bus services stopping at 7 people will face a long walk which they wont want to do in these conditions I am and predict 14,965 will turn up.
The Fat Controller Posted 3 February, 2009 Posted 3 February, 2009 11,890 would have been 11,889 but i'll drive down from Aldbourne (North Wilts) to support the team as i usually do snow or no snow
