derry Posted 2 February, 2009 Share Posted 2 February, 2009 I may be a lone voice on this one, but I'm not overly sure that zero movement out and more importantly, zero money in, is such a good thing. Of course, there is definitely a massive concern that any players out would weaken an already desperate team, but the other side of the coin is that, as Jones said (and as we saw from last years accounts), I reckon we need some decent money coming in to keep us afloat!!!!!! I have no idea what the exact position is, but do think we need player trading to help reduce the losses. Saeijs in, Saganowski back playing, Skacel not going is a big plus for me. hypochondriac Posted 2 February, 2009 Share Posted 2 February, 2009 Not procrastination but greed Why? Because he wants to earn the most amount of money possible? Blame the club for giving him a contract that we couldn't really afford. Can you honestly say you would not do the same? Might as well make the most out of him. ART Posted 2 February, 2009 Share Posted 2 February, 2009 Is Lowe even in the country? Following a nervous breakdown he is currently in Scotland undergoing treatment. Check out the patient list at the Crichton Royal psychiatric rehabilitation and support section in Dumfries. (Telephone 0387 702 060) And seeing the transfer window's been extended by 24 hours due to weather conditions those crowing " I told you so " ought to hold their horses. In the meantime Nathan Dyer only needs to do a raid on the Swansea dressing room and he'll get sent back and his loan cancelled. Elsewhere Stoke have added yet another ex Saints star to their line up. Beattie, Fuller and now Henri Camara leading the attack. Shame Rory's got injured and suspended. Must be something to do with the magnetic effect of red and white stripes.
PokingFun Posted 2 February, 2009 Share Posted 2 February, 2009 Best not cash that bet just yet then, the deadline has been extended cos of the weather (SSN website) and any deals genuinely in the pipeline will be allowed to proceed over Tue/Weds as weather allows. Have to say it could be a very decent window for us if we can hold onto Davis, Surman and Skacel. In my opinion extending the window because of the weather is scandalous as these clubs really should have had the ink dry on contracts well in advance of a deadline like this. All it does is aids clubs that have planned poorly and gives further opportunity to drag things out more. Lets hope we can keep everyone, get them all motivated and push up the table!! sadoldgit Posted 2 February, 2009 Share Posted 2 February, 2009 The transfer deadline remains at 5 pm but if clubs can prove a deal has been struck they will allow medicals and personal terms to go through later. derry Posted 2 February, 2009 Share Posted 2 February, 2009 Not procrastination but greed Get real chaps, Lowe wants to get him off the wage bill, and as such he was pressured by Lowe. FFS the lad has 18 months left on a damn good contract. He would be an imbecile to go anywhere on an inferior contract. He even went on the Transfer List, which means his contract isn't paid in full if he leaves.
sidthesquid Posted 2 February, 2009 Share Posted 2 February, 2009 No evidence but this is how I see it Most of our big earners go at the end of the season and nobody has put a sensible bid in involving hard cash now, so it is probably in Barclays' interest as much as ours that we don't get relegated. So we have 6 months grace on the overdraft to try and stay up, followed by a mass clear-out and having to start living within our means.

sidthesquid Posted 2 February, 2009 Share Posted 2 February, 2009 He wanted to go last January & in the summer - he just can't get anyone to pay him anything like he's on here, possibly because he's not that good (Hertha Berlin had an option to sign him but didn't take it up). I believe his contract is up in the summer so he's prepared to gamble on sitting it out here for a good signing on fee somewhere (probably Jason's idea!) Charlie Wayman Posted 2 February, 2009 Share Posted 2 February, 2009 What he calls ridiculously low offers might have been their actual market price based on the sort of crappy performances they have been turning in for Saints of late. Can you imagine any of our clueless lot surviving in a premiership team? I thought not. Sorry Wotte but you can't talk it up for Rupert like this. Let's face it he needed the dosh desperately and now he's missed the opportunity so when does the man in the bowler hat come calling?

Jackie@home Posted 2 February, 2009 Share Posted 2 February, 2009 This transfer window just proves that we aren't the only skint club in the Championship. Apart from Wolves move for Berra, there has been no substantial transfers at all. There have been a few players moving on loan to rival clubs (we're obviously not the only ones who have to cut our wage bill), but that's about it. The bids must have been really rubbish for us to turn them down flat in our current situation.

trousers Posted 3 February, 2009 Share Posted 3 February, 2009 It was David Jones, Financial Director, in the club's financial statement, who said that players would have to be traded in the January transfer window. Indeed. Something must have changed. But what? Internal investment? External investment? No investment and 'administrators elect' not happy with derisory bids for players? Barclays have relaxed their stance on overdraft? Tie-in with Ujpest offers financial security somehow? Lord Marland has convinced Suggs to buy us out? Lord Marland has convinced Suggs to buy us out? Well apparently you were the font of all knowledge on this yetserday. Here's what you said when we didn't sell anyone: "Or, a bank manger that turned round and said: "even if you sell your best players it won't be enough to keep you afloat I'm afraid" In that scenario, why would we bust a gut to sell anyone if it didn't change things enough financially? So, there is a train of thought that says not selling our best players could be a bad sign financially. Of course, the flip side could indeed be true." Mmm....so what's your therry today then? SaintRichmond Posted 3 February, 2009 Share Posted 3 February, 2009 Southampton head coach Mark Wotte has said he has rejected several offers for some of his players. Midfielder Andrew Surman, striker Adam Lallana and goalkeeper Kelvin Davis have all been linked with moves away from the St Mary's Stadium. Wotte told BBC Radio Solent: "We had a couple of bids but for ridiculously low money. We're not that desperate, to sell for peanuts." Wotte has declined to reveal details of the bids or players involved. "Maybe for ridiculous money you have to sell someone but not because other clubs think you have financial problems," Wotte added. "It's not important which clubs were involved, or which players, but we won't be selling any of our best players for that kind of money." Wotte also confirmed midfielder Rudi Skacel has turned down a six-month loan move to a German club. "Rudi wanted a longer deal from the club he was talking to," he said. "I've said to him he's welcome to stay and become a squad member again but only if he puts all of this transfer talk out of his head IMHO, a load of BOLL8CKS !!!!!!!! Wotte having the clout to making decisions on transfers ...... If it were not so pitiful it would be laughable ....... He'll be telling us that Poortvliet had a free hand re picking the Team next ..... Wotte = Lowe Mouthpiece .... (whilst Lowe is out on the piste )

If, on the other hand should someone else take over and we stay in the same sh1t who are you going to blame then? SaintRichmond = Lowe hater but no alternative solution shocker. eelpie Posted 3 February, 2009 Share Posted 3 February, 2009 My conclusion, we are not as hard up as people keep saying. Rupert is just trying to lower expectations. But will Wotte ever play Skacel? Plumstead_Saint Posted 3 February, 2009 Share Posted 3 February, 2009 from OS: http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/articles/article.php?page_id=11317 "Not many people expected us to be all together by the time the window closed," Wotte said. "There were some phone calls and bids for some players, but only for ridiculously low sums of money. From the Echo: http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/4094249.Swansea_refuse_to_increase_Dyer_bid/ The 21-year-old is the only player Saints have received an offer for during the transfer window and Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins is unlikely to improve it.
