Have we actually interviewed candidates yet?

Rasmus has interviewed himself, my source tells me he was simultaneously inspired and awe struck, he has put himself on a very short  shortlist to be presented to Spors before the end of the week.

Leeds are sacking Farke immediately after getting promoted. That's what we should have done with Martin.

Bold decision from the Leeds board.

It's the right decision.    He's not Premier League quality.

I think Scott Parker may be OK at Burnley though.

He was rubbish at Bournemouth, entitled arrogant twat, he'd fit right in at Leicester

I wouldn't be surprised to see Leeds appoint Dyche or Cooper…..

Will Still section on Sky was an interesting watch.  Comes across as a little less “polished” than most top flight managers, but given only 32 and managing for three seasons that is unsurprising.

However things I think most Saints fans would have enjoyed hearing:

- I want to play forward

- I don’t just want possession

- I always want an angle on every pass, harder to press that way

- I don’t believe in sticking to one philosophy, and if promoted from championship to Premier League you can’t expect to play the same way.  Some times you have to win ugly

Clearly is doing a good job at second club in Ligue 1 and you can see why he is being courted by clubs.  Fluent in three languages and knowledge of Belgian and French markets useful too.

They're not going to sack Farke to then go and appoint one of those two.

If they are making a big call like that it must be because they have a significant upgrade in mind.

To me that just says he isn't that great. Like when people said Shane Long was good running around alongside Danny Ings and 'his job wasn't to score goals'.

What that he can’t play as a holding midfielder? If you played Bernado Silva has a holding midfielder he wouldn’t be very good either that doesn’t mean he isn’t a good player. He’s decent enough in the championship as a sort of advanced midfielder but clearly not and never going to be a premier league player. Pretty weird to say someone isn’t very good because they can’t do a good job in a different position

No chance, they've got lots of money to spend and they'll bring in someone significantly better than them.

No that he can’t play in a pair effectively in any sort of capacity. If you can only effectively play in a three and need two other players to cover your inadequacies, you probably aren’t that great.

Surely that’s the whole point of having a team of 11, they all do different stuff well.  Rodri is a defensive midfielder, can’t be that great if he needs two centre backs behind him, Messi is an attacking midfielder but can’t be that great if he needs strikers and defensive players around him to make up for his inadequacies on that basis

That makes no sense, you’re comparing this to other players in different positions. Saying Rodri needs two CBs behind him is completely different to saying for eg. "Nathan Wood can’t play in a CB pairing, he’s much better in a there with Vidic and Stam."

Putting it simply, if you think he’s decent enough in an advanced position, would you be happy with just him and Downes in CM next year?

You wouldn’t set up like that, it’s pretty obvious. Midfield would be wide open that’d be the case whoever was playing in the advanced role. Just because someone is a midfielder doesn’t mean they all do the same job. There are different types of midfielders you know. Otherwise Rodri wouldn’t need Kevin De Byrne

I don’t think Smallbones that great but to say he’s not that good because if he played you’d need two defensive midfielders to make up for him is nonsense.

Leeds ditching Farke is bold to say the least.

Leicester I think will end up with Russell Martin, I only see RM going either there or Norwich.

Lampard I’m sure will stay at Coventry.

Sean Dyche will be the banker for taking over at Burnley mid-November to replace bottom place Scott Parker.

Steve Cooper will be on hold for a Premier League job I’m sure.

Rohl will come here.

Poch will be back at Spurs.

Thanks all 😇😅

I wonder if we'd go totally left field and check out Dave Challinor at Stockport... Rasmus and co are always going on about untapped potential... Challinor has managed for 14 years across 6 divisions and he's never finished lower than playoffs, so there must be something there and he seems destined to get to the championship sooner rather than later. He's taken Stockport from 9th in the national league to the verge of the championship in 4 seasons in that time... Look how much money Wrexham have spent to do similar...

I'd say he's got at least got a comparable pedigree to McKenna had before Ipswich's championship promotion season (especially given their league 1 bankrolling).

Would be a ludicrously ballsy appointment for sports republic and a hell of a gamble for saints generally... But I reckon he's one to watch for the next few years to see where he gets to. Also, from a Saints / SR perspective, he's already had some successes and bettered selles this season in league 1, so that probably rules him out of being "unrealised potential" 😆

My nephew was on loan there this season until he got injured, and he's full of praise for Challinor. Not a bad shout, but he might well want to stay there if they get promoted and see how far he can take them though.

Unlikely. Steve Cotterill had similar achievements at lower levels, there are others that have done great stuff lower down but they don't then move up at bigger clubs. Hello Nathan Jones. I don't think these are risks we should be taking.

However, Dave Challinor used to have the longest long throw in Britain (pre-dating Rory Delap) so there is that.

Sounds like De Zerbi is about to become available following a monumental fall-out with his entire squad at Marseille.

He'd obviously be aiming way higher than us, but could see Bournemouth going for him if Iraola goes, or Leeds if they're looking for an upgrade on Farke.

If he gets them promoted this season I think a lot more clubs will be looking at him. Would be a very respectable one club run in football manager, let alone the real world.

Tbf it's everywhere.

It's even on SkySports.

No smoke without...

They might go for Roger Schmidt considering his Red Bull background and good work at Benfica…

Is your nephew Onyango? If so he was pretty impressive when I saw him earlier in the season!

There are some really disappointing names on that list.

Gary O'Neil at 5/2.

If SportsRepublic appoint him then it would confirm to me they don't understand us as a club.

He's a good manager but fuck off.

Yep, that's him. He was really starting to impress when he got a bad hamstring injury.

He's better than the last 3 we've had here ffs.

We're not quite the world beaters you think we are.

I'm not sure he is - he had a much better Wolves team at a similar level to us under RM - and his teams play fucking awful football.
