Why is future planning not a sensible thing to do?

Is it because (for us at least), Nathan fucking Jones was on our radar for many months before we persuaded him to take the job?

Not exactly selling the clubs future planning abilities.

Updating fans on the managerial vacancy, technical director Johannes "chuckles" Spors said "Following extensive reviews of the club's processes, the first task is clearly to minimise the lurch between managerial changes.

We, at SR, are committed to burning through 3 managers a season. That's the left field SR way. If you don't succeed, repeat the same doomed process. Gone will be the uncertainty of which system we will be lurching to!

By hiring one head coach, but paying a retainer, for first option, on 2 others with different requirements, we can seamlessly bring in coaches to deal with our bloated, yet incomplete, squad."

When asked if the time saved with this innovation could allow for a fourth manager in a season, Spors eyes lit up, and he raced back into the building juggling on his unicycle.

You’re not taking this Manager thing very seriously are you?

If SFC want to save the £20m it’s gonna cost to recruit a new manager and his team then sack them after 12 Championship matches when we have only 5 points and then go steal another manager and his coaches who play in another style and pay a big eff off compensation fee-why not save all that time ( and money) by letting Rusk and Adam lead the team into the Championship.

Then, when we only have 5 points from first twelve games playing in the what’s er style you can call what we do ( uber pragmatic?) they can be sacked and some other lot with a wholly new playing philosophy can be brought in.
And some will love it and others will hate it. And when it’s clear we’ve missed the playoffs we can sack these as well, and recruit Danny Rohl.

How does it negatively impact the club to plan for the future?

Maybe it doesn’t, but do you think supporters need or more specifically WANT to know about this information at this point in time? With two relegations in three seasons, do you not think supporters deserve to be convinced that there’s a real concerted effort to rectify the huge issues facing the club? It suggests a lack of focus at best.

It’s a concerning example of the utter second rate amateurism that appears so typical of SR and the clubs management.

And as a reward you get to give us money for Jack Stephens, Will Smallbone, Gavin Bazunu and a few others. It's like having a guaranteed high possession Championship promotion bundle. We won't even ask for compensation.

Or we could have done a Leicester, spent and spent , bent the rules and got away with it ......for now

Same result as us though...........going back down

Go for it, guaranteed goals which I gather is something you've not had much of recently.  Not necessarily goals at the right end but still worth a go.

If the rumours we’re up for sale are true then I’ll expect Rusk to be in charge by the time next season starts.

How on earth would that work? we have shared functions with Goztepe and Valencienes. Would we lose the scouting Network or would the French and Turkish clubs?

I've been supporting Leicester since 1962 but Russel Martin could finish me. He is extremely dislikable !!........ Not to mention I think he is a shit manager.

This is what I thought. Effectively they’d be up for sale too.

Far easier to sack Rasmus like he did with Kraft.

I've just read that David Wagner is on the shortlist. This wouldn't surprise me at all. Another piss poor SR appointment.

Wagner took Norwich from being a top 6 Championship side to mid-table mediocrity. Have a look at what Norwich fans thought of him. He's not the answer for Saints so be prepared for his arrival. 😂

I don't believe anyone can be that sensible until they've tasted the snake oil. Shall we drive him up there for you?

Just be a case of agreeing what comes as part of any purchase tbh. Not an uncommon thing to happen in businesses generally.

How about Marco Rose

His name has featured on previous occasions and I thought he’d be a good option in the past.

Doubt he’d be persuaded to join in the Championship and will have better offers.

Er... he did get Norwich in the top 6 last season, they went backwards after he left.

He'd be a poor Prem manager but he'd very easily get us promoted. I think there are a better options but he wouldn't be a disaster.

Wagner and this prick mentioned in the last couple of days.

Can only hope that this is pure media speculation. I’d have hoped Spors was considering this since he arrived. Surely to Christ the search didn’t begin after the Spurs defeat, without a shortlist already in place.

Emile Smith Rowe ran into the same gap in our defence that Ollie Watkins found for Villa. If you watch the goal again you will see that we have at least four defenders there who could have tracked his run yet they all leave it to each other. Bednarek realises too late and dives in only to deflect the ball into goal.

It’s a classic case of ‘too many cooks’ getting in each other’s way. Five at the back is an abomination.

Not just on that occasion I was shouting in frustration "Take responsibility!". I thought generally the spirit seemed better but the confidence is still shot, and the lack of support in attack was appalling. Other teams break at speed, we just have poor Sulemanna on his own.

I think in light of today's developments we can pretty much assume every name we've been linked with as bullshit.

No way would the club be looking to install a permanent manager while it's up for sale.

Mind you... Having a guy in place could help the sale but don't takeovers generally bring in their own people.

I don't know...

It's a fucking shitshow tbh

just like watford have previously done with manager rotation and a squad thinking whats next..........we could well be looking through rose tinted glasses and think yes with the big name players leaving we are still amongst the best to succeed,i  hope so but still not convinced unless we have a decent manger in place.

If multiple clubs were in the Market for the same manager, would rumours of a sale sway the manager either way?

just putting it out there that its not unfeasible that the rumours could be a stitch up job.

Seems like St Mary's is quite a confusing place at the moment. We, for the first time in a while have a sporting director but we are currently managerless, with the club potentially up for sale too. I just have a rather horrible feeling it's going to be Rusk & Lallana as I can't see anyone like Rohl or Still wanting to join a club with so much uncertainty around it.

Equally I'm going to mentally prepare for what is likely to be a very disappointing season in the Championship..

Why?

I liked Russell and it was a shame he ultimately failed this season and had to go. You just know he will go to our direct rivals and finish above us, it’s the Southampton way.

I've heard on quite good authority (first time ever) that he's a person that's been of interest. Definitelty not saying it's any more than that!

I hope he does go to Leicester, and takes his ‘chums’ Jack Stephen’s, Will Smallbone, Ryan Manning and Nathan wood with him - all for top prices obviously. Gets his wages and their wages off our books too. Win win. Except for poor old Leicester - who may have a minus 10 points starting position if they get fined as they should 🤞🤞

Leicester getting a points deduction would be most welcome. Birmingham are going to be strong (their owner claims they will be as strong as the parachute teams next season on commercials). Ipswich and Leicester will have the parachute payments and even Wrexham will be an interesting one to see how they do. At least one of Sunderland or Sheffield United will remain too.

Won’t be easy, especially given the bad momentum we have, the high number of changes to players, new manager and now the uncertainty on our ownership. Russ managed the chaos pretty well last time, yes we finished 4th but 87 points is not a poor return and he got us up in the end. Leicester will do well with him IMO.
