and that’s where the odd one might happen if a player actually wants to be in and around the first team, is in their national squad, and the new manager makes it clear they are unlikely to be in the first team picture. If you’re confident you’ve got takers at a similar level on a free, but that club might struggle with the fees and wages, and Saints new manager wants more headroom, it’s possible. Unlikely but possible.

As we speak teams in the lower half of the championship and L1 are quaking in their boots knowing that in the near future SFC will be sniffing around their managers and players..

They are all coming out about the same, when it comes to getting actual points. Sod all. So, this is one of the tie breaker categories.

Others are:-

The Fashion round - pullover, beard and hair.

The Philosophy round - The principles that mean more than points or jobs.

The Cookery Round - Testing various teflon pans against our manager's ability to never accept responsibility.

Definitely looks like reinforcing a parting of the ways there. Little chance of turning back after publicly criticising players, and throwing down a challenge to the Board to spend (knowing they’re cash strapped).

I like the honesty, and better than some of the banal crap ( ‘ the lads are disappointed but will definitely be giving it 120% next game …’ etc) but if this were Saints I’d rather this were left unsaid until the season was over.

That’s Martinesque 2.0 after the saying the week before that ‘those guys are so brave, and he has so much love for those guys .., ‘

In terms of Rohlwatch, I’ll keep a close watch on his next press conference to see if he takes it to the next level : ‘when I left Bayern I could have married a buxom serving wench from Oktoberfest and taken a job as a PE teacher … ‘. *

Aribo has suitors, he’s in the 2026 expiry cohort, one of the big Turkish clubs, probably a £5-8m fee and one of our bigger earners. Similar for Onachu.

Bazanu is a quandary as 2027, hasn’t pulled up any trees at Standard. If Rohl does the obvious thing and replaces Ramsdale, he is probably looking at another loan out as McCarthy inexcusably got a 2 year deal last summer and he will understandably see it through. If Baz had only one year left a mutual termination would have made sense to get a new club without them risking a fee and stay in RoI contention.

Stewart might as well treat as a bonus David Connolly style (although yet to see any evidence Ross is anywhere near David’s calibre as a forward).

Edozie is trickier to predict - year left, as with Bazanu not pulled up the Ardennes Forest in Belgium. Did alright last time in the Champ but might be happier moving to another Champ club, or Old Firm, on a 3 year deal if the fee is fairly low. Smallbone is another who had some success last time, but can only function and compete as most advanced in a central three. See below on Charlie Taylor if that doesn’t suit Rohl or whoever it is, or Bree if it does.

Bree will stay with a 12 month extension I reckon, Taylor who knows? Maybe a free with Saints paying a % of wages.

I couldn’t give a toss about how a manager comes across in a press conference.  Rusk has had media training.  Big fucking deal.  He still set us up wrong against Villa and brought Will fucking Smallbone on.

Still, hopefully his post-match conference was good and made up for his dreadful tactics and substitutions in the actual game.

So lets get this straight we're the worst team in EPL history thus far. No confidence it'll change before the season is out, and were looking at the manager of the worst team since January in the league below. i know there are mitigating circumstances but what could possibly go wrong?

The circumstances are very mitigating yes. RB Leipzig are interested for a reason.

Are you being deliberately stupid?

Totally missed the point which is that he is happy to sit around doing fuck all on his big fat wage, its happened at three clubs now in the case of him. Its got nothing to do with refusing his wages, all to do with happily taking them whilst contributing nothing or even looking to get another club. If RM hadnt come along for his ex room mate he would have been kicking about at Newcastle training on his own still.

Expand

I didn't miss the point. Your point seems to be that he should either demand a transfer (which would be idiotic on his part given no other PL team would be stupid enough to sign him) or refuse his wages (which would also be idiotic, given we have agreed to pay them) because the manager won't pick him. My point is that you're talking shite.

If you want to be angry, be angry with Russel Martin and our genius transfer committee for signing him.

Only talking shite if either if your two interpretations are correct and niether are so the talking shite award, not for the first time, is all yours !

In simple language, just for you, my point is if players are happy to sit on a big contract and not move on or who are not wanted we aren’t likely to get shot of them.

Rusk has two points from three Premier League games, and we have conceded just two goals from open play.  I also recall we put a decent performance in for his League Cup game in charge against Liverpool

It’s not just Media training you can clearly see he’s not just talking waffle like russ did .. he’s the first manager we have for a long time that seems to be able to improve us defensively .. gone is the naive stupidity of russ and juric and im not surprised at all we get a result today

He seems to be the tactically prudent manager we needed when we hired juric .. what we needed all season was a manager that adopts a defense first outlook and we wouldn’t be in this mess .people can think he doesn’t have the credentials but he’s already showing he’s a lot more capable then experienced managers like juric and Martin and this is a higher level then rohl has managed

I'm not sure Rohl is the answer. What's he ever done beyond managing a mid table Championship team to mid table results.

Rusk is doing okay but surely isn't the answer either.

Russ isn't happening...we had great spirit but we're not fit and almost blew it.

Rosenior you could say the same as Rohl... not really delivered anything major. But maybe more experienced and his progress in France means he has more about him than Rohl.

Cooper is probably the most proven (maybe not best or guaranteed) option on paper I'd say, but I'd be happy to give Rohl a go and see how we start.

Would hate Gerrard, Lampard seems to be doing okay.

Carrick and Latte Lath could work.

For a change I agree with you! No way would we go back to Ralph and nor should we. He probably wouldn't even entertain the idea anyway.

As much as he did an ok job overall he clearly lost the players by the time he was sacked (I know a lot of the team will be different now) but how about we look forward..

I don’t want see Ralph anywhere near the place. I was glad to see the back of him, it’s who followed him that’s possibly causing the nostalgia. He was awful for his last season and a half.

I’d much prefer to keep Rusk (and Lallana)

Cooper is a worthy candidate.

Rohl has taken a disorderly club and mostly league one standard players to two mid table finishes, including this season. He may well have called on a siege mentality to help the performances, who knows. But it does show he has some good managerial qualities.

There's no problem with people having opinions, but don't make up bollocks to enhance your opinion.

When Rohl was appointed as Wednesday manager, 11 games into the season, Wednesday were rooted on 2 or 3 points and 8-10 points adrift of safety. They looked like us this season.

They finished the season on 53 points, places and points breathing space from the bottom 3. In the main he could only work with what he had that season, which was a L1 level team, but he managed to scratch every ounce he could from them. He's even had them comfortable in mid-table this season, even in the playoff chatter for a bit, even though they're still pretty much the same 11.

They'll fall through the trap door if he leaves IMO. He's done some miracle stuff there in light of everything.

Rohl has done a great job there and is a respected coach, Cooper for me is the stand out candidate. In the past people have sneered at him too because he got sacked by Forest and Leicester but like the guy knocking Rohl fail to look behind what happened there

Rohl has done well with one arm tied behind his back. Let’s wait and see.

He’s odds on favourite, surely only a matter of time. It looks all but set for him to takeover.

Indications suggest this anyway.

At championship level the gulf between the teams are a lot less then the premiership so getting a relegation threatened team to mid table isn’t such a miracle . I mean look at  at the jobs Jones/edwards done at Luton or McKenna taking Ipswich up two leagues it’s not that uncommon for a lower tier championship club to compete so rohl feels kinda meh to me

to add to that sheffields Wednesdays form since the start of the year has fell of a cliff so what looked more impressive earlier in the season isn’t really working any more

Maybe a bit worrying but it's fallen off a cliff since he was originally linked with us in January and he had that falling out with their chairman. Since then the players and staff aren't even sure they are going to get paid. Probably best to judge him on his time there overall, not just the last few months.
