The good news is, I suspect that record will be broken again soon, what with the gulf between the leagues being so big. One day a team will come up via the play offs as we did who finished lower than us and will be beaten literally every single game.

Us, the season after next? 🙂

Yup, in the Championship next season 😀

No chance with the rubbish we've got. At the Wolves match their nos 3 & 7 looked like they were worth £50 - 60M (combined) easy. By comparison our nos 3 & 7 combined worth is 50 - 60p and when no5 was bought on there was no increase in value. This week Palace's nos 3 & 7 are better than Wolves equivalent. I used to have sympathy for IJ because you can't polish a turd. He's not even trying, still picking the same crap that don't want to be here. Problems will arise in the summer when the young loanees come back to a shit show like this. Remember Tella came back from loan at Burnley and went to Bayer Leverkusen and won the Bundesliga.

It was the same against Brentford. Yes they've got some decent players but we made them look like world beaters. I've stopped guessing what might happen in the summer but I'm not exactly brimming with optimism.

Hope you are right but I'm not so sure, other teams seem to get a bit of luck and fluke a few more results than us, we are rotten to the core and lady luck has long gone!  If we finish on 9 points that's just appalling

Yeah, this is something I really don't get. There are literally millions of footballers out there, so why is that if you take each premier league team has a squad of 30 players, there is such a gulf between the top 600 (20 x 30) players and everyone else? It's almost like once a player gets in to the elite group, they automatically become better than the rest.

Take Palace. They're fitter, they're stronger and they've got a couple of really good players. Our players are sluggish, look defeated and have been poorly managed and we haven't got a stand out player. But are they less skillful? I don't think so. But I can't see us getting a point in this one.

The weight of their pay packet gives them all a lower centre of gravity. That combines with the skills they already had to make them all better. 🙂

I still have some sympathy. You're assuming the alternatives are any good and _do_ want to be here. He's probably been shocked with the lack of fitness and motivation. The reason Downes hasn't been  playing isn't I think due to him not trying but Downes not trying.. That might also apply to some other players. The only thing I'd say is that man-marking wasn't working. When you get the abject marking of ABK against the Wolves CF that really isn't down to the manager but a player who has far too high an opinion of himself and isn't as good as he thinks he is.

Not another game, and so soon, do we have to?

Yeah , see you in carriage number 1..

Or I might get some excitement into my life by going early by car and fitting in an IKEA visit: I need some more ziplock bags..

Someone on Total Saints Podcast was making the point that not so long ago a trip to Selhurst Park or a visit by Palace represented a good prospect of a win.   Superior recruitment and managerial appointments (by Palace) have scuppered that.

Yes, considerably. Never in a million years would players like Manning, Archer or Smallbone get into Palace’s match day squad, let one start.

Quite the thing that I think all of us would now accept 3 points from the remaining 9 matches and finishing bottom with a grand total of 12 points.

Accept it? I’d rip your arm off to grab it with how this season has gone.

Palace are a great example along with Bournemouth and Forest of;

1. Considerably better recruitment, top class (leagues above Saints in terms of recruitment)

2. Better management, well drilled, know what they are doing, loads of energy (leagues above Saints)

3. Fitness! Our players still look slow and unfit, especially compared to these 3 teams. Sad really.

I don't think we'll get anything away from now on so if we are to get past the Derby millstone this is the game to do it.

They owe us that at least.

Palace, west ham away and Leicester away on paper should all be draws at least. All 3 teams are safe so will they give up! The other games it's difficult to see 3 corners let alone any shots on target.

Leicester are like Saints safe in relegation.

All transfer deals should depend on a players end of season performance , put no effort in and you will only be sold to a lower division club 😄

we all remember Mane’s sudden return to form when Saints were playing potential buyers !

I said some months ago that the team didn’t look capable of beating Derby’s record - not capable of winning another game. That was when Martin was still struggling to get a flicker of life from the players. Nothings changed with Juric in the driving seat…it’s still a shitshow with no chance of gaining even a point.

I don’t feel too shameful by looking at Leicester and Ipswich in the league table. They just won 2 games with 2 draws more than us (-8). The differences are less than in the Championsship last year (-10 and -9 respectively). In this way, we have some improvements this year.

If we can maintain that gap, we'll have improved on last season when Leicester were 10 points, and Ipswich 9 points better! 🙂

Now, could you stand on the end of that straw to make it easier for me to clutch it, please? 😑

It's my sad duty to let you know that your posting standards have slipped to my level. 🙂

Been enjoying the break in a PTSD recovery sense. Tonite will be back in the seat watching five at the back and Ivan’s soft rock wetball against the titans of Palace. Can’t fucking wait.

Small sample of 10 season ticket holders I've asked 4 are not going to bother tonight with 1 other 50/50 still to decide, doubt that ratio will replicated across the stadium but could be quite a few empty seats.

When someone has already paid for something but gets such little enjoyment they'd still rather not go that *should* worry the management of the club.

Dear Mr Smith,

I know you haven't bothered using your current season ticket that you've paid for, but please renew and give us some more money.

Kind Regards

Yep, gaps around me last few home games. I suppose now it's about looking for some fight in the side Juric puts out -  low expectation.

This should be very comfortable for Palace who may not have to break sweat to secure a 2-0 victory. We'd need a massive uplift in play, attitude and effort to even run them close and I don't see the signs from this group of players.

Yeah, I'm not going and doubt I will for any game except the last one of the season.  I'll almost certainly renew in the Championship as it's more fun but not sure I'll bother in the premier league again.

Small sample..

Friend of mine is coming in to town to get her hair done and meet me for a drink but isn't going to the match, and she has a _very_ good seat..

My own optimistic nature doesn't extend to hoping for a win or a draw tonight..

RE: season ticket holders not bothering, it's my step daughter's birthday today - and it's only because she's a little 'un (and will be in bed by the time I leave for the match) that I'm not staying home/prioritising that.

Rightly or wrongly, this season has made me re-examine my relationship with football a bit.

When you look at the two wins this season.

One was against Everton, who were in a poor run of form under Dyche.

They had a goal very marginally given offside and then hit the bar in the closing stages. Could very well have been a draw.

Similar at Ipswich. They were the better side then, fortunately for us, their keeper messed up presenting Tall Paul with the winner.

If these fine margins had gone against us, then we would now be on 5 points and no wins.

I read that for the first time there'll be 2000 or so unsold tickets, plus season tickets not attending.

I can't believe it's taken this long to get down to the still very high 20,000s.

Great support through the thinnest of times.

I just can't see even a point coming our way later. I'd love to be wrong.

Yes, I had been drinking.

I hadn't been drinking...and gone Saints 0 Palace 10 ...shows how dispirited I feel... and I'm not a season ticket holder (although I would be if I lived in the area)

I'd also factor in they were prepared to pay Zaha mega bucks to keep him at the club which gave them a match winner whilst it allowed young talents like Olise and Eze to come into the team and be developed properly unlike the clowns ruining our club.

Heads up for anyone heading from the P*mpey side of the M27 tonight .... currently huge tailbacks on m27 from Eastleigh back to Whiteley - been there since crash at lunchtime.  The A27 no better with roadworks at Swanwick!!

Don't know if Eze was ever on our radar but he should have been. As a youngster I remember he looked very good for QPR and our scouts should have been aware. He cost Palace just 17 million which has proved to be a bargain. We rarely seem to have our finger on the pulse and miss out on players under our nose then waste millions on rubbish.
