Lighthouse Posted April 14 Posted April 14 Bad light stops play, so that should be it. I don’t think we were ever chasing down that total but that’s a phenomenal effort from Gubbins, Albert and Prest today to but out the unlikeliest of draws. 2
Window Cleaner Posted April 14 Author Posted April 14 (edited) Match ended bad bad light with Hants 300/5. Still a good draw. Good batting from Gubbins, Albert and Prest. A win might have just been possible if we'd been able to up the rate a bit and no bad light but a draw is a good result for us, leaving Surrey still without a win. Edited April 14 by Window Cleaner 1
Gloucester Saint Posted April 14 Posted April 14 Top effort from the lads today, Fletcha in blunting a newish ball and then hundred from Gubbins and Albert playing himself into form.
Andrew Watson Posted April 14 Posted April 14 Delighted to be proved wrong,a really fantastic effort from all the batsmen. 1
Weston Saint Posted April 16 Posted April 16 We now know the reason Keith Barker has not featured for 9 Months Club Statement: Keith Barker | Utilita Bowl I was told last year his contract had been renewed but it had not been reported to the media. Be good to have him back 2

I don't know the real circumstances so I couldn't say. Anyway relatively good news because today we look to be a bowler short at least. Hampton isn't a Barker substitute.

Agree though, Hampton does not look a Div 1 allrounder so far. He was a late choice though after Edwards injury 2

As a lefty myself I found it much easier to score down the leg side, something about how we "cackhanders" situate ourselves in space or some scientific stuff like that. And the principal culprit was Hampton.

I have a young brother who is sixteen years younger than me and my dad and I both right handers made him into a successful lefthander because of the amount of balls you get on their leg stump. He still plays today for Berkshire over Sixties
Window Cleaner Posted April 19 Author Posted April 19 Need to finish them off now because these are free runs that we're giving them. 1

We'd probably know that if the commentary girls were a bit less dopey. Normally they're ok but on of this morning's sounds a bit clueless.
Lighthouse Posted April 19 Posted April 19 I know Hampton was a late, short notice replacement but when an overseas player looks less dangerous and more expensive than Brad Wheal, you’ve not quite got it right. I’m not sure what the plan is for when he departs and Barker returns, we’re probably still light a decent batter.

Dewalt Brevis who has signed for the T20 also has an option to play in the Championship though they haven't said when that would be.

Leggie all-rounder - interesting. Whether that’s more of a Liam Livingstone or Will Jacks all-round I guess we will find out https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dewald_Brevis With Brett Hampton, my concern was that he’d reached 33 with no international honours in a country when the national team has had a great few years but the talent pool quite small https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brett_Hampton

Interetingly, I saw a couple of days ago that he had signed for CSK in the IPL, presumably as a replacement for the injured Gaikwad, so we should get a decent look at him, if he gets a game.

Up till last week he was playing in the SA 4 day championship (for Titans) where he was the second highest scorer.
Window Cleaner Posted April 20 Author Posted April 20 So Hants all out for 336, 152 ahead. Bit of a collapse after a good start to the morning. Ball looks to be moving about a bit. Some hitting from Abbott, Wheal and eventually Brown took us to a reasonable total and 2 batting bonus points. Now we'll have to hope to get some Somerset wickets quickly because I don't think the weather forecast is great for tomorrow, might have changed since i looked though. 1
Window Cleaner Posted April 20 Author Posted April 20 Our bowling doesn't look anywhere as near as incisive as later stage of our innings Somerset's . Wec have to find another bowler if Baker is going to be called up by England. 1
Picard Posted April 20 Posted April 20 They haven't even dared let Hampton bowl in the second innings. Can you drop an overseas player from the team? 1
Window Cleaner Posted April 21 Author Posted April 21 Don't expect much cricket today, weather looks pretty awful. That will be a 13 point draw then.
Lighthouse Posted April 21 Posted April 21 So basically everyone got a draw out of the weekend apart from Essex beating Worcs. Spare a thought for Notts, bowling the Brummies out for 93 on their own ground, posting 367 in reply and still not getting a win. 1
John B Posted April 22 Posted April 22 England cricket trio Gus Atkinson, Jamie Smith and Sophie Ecclestone have been named among Wisden’s Cricketers of the Year, the prestigious annual prize awarded to top performers in the English summer. County stars Liam Dawson and Dan Worrall complete the five-strong list, an honour bestowed in the almanack since 1889 and which cricketers can only win once in their career. 4

We'll see when he gets here. Three teams won in the latest round of games so we've slid down the table a bit. Notts looking fairly impressive, perhaps they've just played poor teams. As for Hampton, well he hasn't convinced me as of yet, doesn't look able to offer anything that we don't have already with Kellly or Jack. What's the wicketkeeper situation for the T20, is one of the recruits a wicky or will that be Brown, who's not really a short format player ?.

I didn’t say it helped us but if he performs well in the IPL then he should more than hold his own against the likes of Middlesex and Glamorgan.

Pretorius is a wicket keeper according to various articles.
