Dusic Posted March 14 Posted March 14 Moran, Wood, Davis, Williams, De Ridder, Wigley, Basham, Caulker, Grant all viable candidates but who gets your vote? #steve

Gloucester Saint Posted March 14 Posted March 14 (edited) 46 minutes ago, The Kraken said: Williams was my favourite. Mills was quality 😪 I’ll go for Moran as first choice - justification is that iconic goal at the stinkhole in 1984 plus the late winner at Anfield when no-one won there - with Steve Williams a close second. Went to Steve Mills’s testimonial 1988 https://saintsarchive.com/2022/05/09/steve-mills-testimonial-charity-benefit-match-southampton-28-03-1988/, but before my time as a player, more my Dad’s generation. Heard he was a very promising prospect who was in a car accident and then got cancer very young, poor bloke. Edited March 14 by Gloucester Saint Found the actual year 6
Andrew Watson Posted March 14 Posted March 14 Steve Williams for me,a great player a shout out for Steve Moran. 9

Before my time as well but I remember the charity game capturing the imagination of the fanbase , there's also a really nice bit on the Saints History video about the game Edited March 14 by Football Special 2
Barton Saint Posted March 14 Posted March 14 Steve Williams was by far and away the most talented; he would be worth £60M now? Steve Mills was quality as well sadly never fulfilled Steve Moran an earlier version of Aguero probably! All 3 together would make a huge difference to our team if available today! 2
Football Special Posted March 14 Posted March 14 Best video ever this one, whole thing worth a watch but fast forward to 1hr 16mins for emotional tribute to Steve Mills 3

TheAlehouseBrawlers Posted March 15 Posted March 15 In no particular order 🎶There's only one🎶 Stevie Williams Steve Mills (I was another there for his testimonial - fantastic talent who's life was cruelly cut short) And of course 🎶Stevie...🎶 Steve Moran How can you not? (and lucky to be there and at Anfield) ...and a shout out to (if only for this) Steve De Ridder and for the scenes that followed 3
Turkish Posted March 15 Posted March 15 anyone remember the banter forum of poster saint Steves various trips round the world? Bloody hilarious
tttdcs Posted March 15 Posted March 15 Was Steve Hopkins the chap who won a competition to play in the All Stars team?

Having had family members survive it, lost and currently losing them to it. That must have been a fantastic last memory with Saints and football for him, God bless him. Watch those few minutes on the Saints history video from 1hr 16 , with the soundtrack and crowd shots can't help but feel emotional, great images of The Dell as well

Wade Garrett Posted March 16 Posted March 16 Davis was an excellent player. Wiliams the best Steve for me though. 2
lumuah Posted March 18 Posted March 18 (edited) I can't believe I got this far through a thread without the mention of Steve De Ridder! edit: Dammit, someone beat me to it after all Edited March 18 by lumuah 1
sadoldgit Posted March 18 Posted March 18 Steve Williams without doubt. Apart from being the best Steve he would make it into the best Saints X1 of all time. 2
leesaint88 Posted March 18 Posted March 18 Can Steve De Ridder's dad get a shout? He's done a fair bit for the club charities in the past..

Thereisonlyonemickychannon Posted March 19 Posted March 19 Steve Williams....sold him to Arsenal.... However, a great talent in Saints promotion year to the first division was a lad called Tony Funnell. McMenemy let him go! Love McMenemy but that was a blow.

GK - Middleton, RB - Baker, LB……

Wood is joined by Baker in that particular intersection on a Venn diagram. Do I get an MLG point for that ?
Football Special Posted Friday at 09:19 Posted Friday at 09:19 Steve Davis from Rangers must be up there with our best ever signings ,800k wasn't it, what a great player. Anyone remember the other Steve Davis from around 89/90?

Tamesaint Posted Saturday at 17:54 Posted Saturday at 17:54 Williams was a great player but Moran edges it for me. Debut goal, Skate goal, Anfield goal and the way and the delight with which he celebrated any goal are all great memories. 1

A much earlier version of the ‘Rooo-ooot’ noise England cricket fans make when Joe reaches 50 or 100, but much briefer after he inevitably launched a long ball forward in the hope Dowie could flick on.
