I’ve heard on a podcast today that he is a massive Saints fan who travels to most games.

He even brought up our league plight in Italian parliament this week.

There's actually a decent number of Italian Saints and a few who come over for games , can see their impressive flag here when we played at the San Siro

For all those people saying "i prefer the championship" or the ones at games singing about us going down and going on "championship tours" those european aways were like nothing else.

That's why you want to be in the top flight, moments like that are incredible.

It still blows my mind i had piss ups in holland, went to the Danish equivalent of Eastleigh, 20miles from the gaza strip (and a lot less distance to "strip" in Prague), and one of the most iconic grounds in the world.

What I wouldn't give to have those days back again

Teams like Bournemouth showing it only takes 2-3 years building up the side and now they have a shot at European qualification.

Plus this season the FA Cup is wide open, would have been a great opportunity to go for it and make history, but here we are praying we aren't quite as bad as Billy Davies' Derby County with our season all but written off in November.

100%. And trips further back to Bucharest, Lisbon, Hamburg, Lisbon, Brussels (my parents went to that and stayed in Bruges) and Marseilles. Probably more further back in the Fairs Cup.

Hate it when the club is in its complacent/dozing phases. Hopefully there’s a 09-17 or a 76-85 around the corner. Even an 86-91 or 99-04 would do.

On the Financial front wasn't Mervyn King. ex Governor of the Bank of England, a Saints fan as is Ken Bruce's son, although no financial connection there!!!

In seasons like this I find it helps to do some reminiscing , talking about it last weekend after the game having listened to Bournemouth fans singing about going on a European tour,  will be nice to get another before I'm too old for it

I remember the name but hadn’t  heard that before.

Wikipedia says he’s a Villa fan. You’re not confusing him with Gavyn Davies are you ? He was a City name ( Goldman Sachs) and often mentioned in finance articles.

A few years ago the Chairman of the BBC was a Saints fan (Christopher Bland) was a Saints fan. When he resigned  he was replaced by Gavyn Davies - another Saints fan.

The San Siro and the birreria Lambrate full of Saints fans was fun, but not so many at the Thun pre-season friendly.. Steve Grant ISTR, Swiss Saint, and random others. But they'd better hurry up before we all get too old.
