Storage required for my mums items after she passed away.

Hi all,

I know that I do not know many of you guys, not meeting face to face, but you may know that I grew up in Southampton from birth and moved away in 1996, back in 2001 and away for good in 2006. Now very much settled in Carlisle, pretty much as far away as I could get from Southampton. Just thought a little back story would be nice before I see if any of you could help.

My mother rest her soul, passed away on 28th December 2024 and lived in assisted living, which we need to move everything out of by the end of February. We are ok with the majority having been down for the funeral a couple of weeks ago.

We are currently looking for storage for the below larger items, while they are listed for sale by my sister and me in various places. So someone with garage space or a spare room, and for ease someone who lives as close to SO19 7

We would be very grateful, as we do not really want to put the items in storage and pay, while we try and move them on, as it seems counter productive. The items are pretty much new as she moved into the accommodation only in November after a heart attack in October.

large extendable dining table and 6 chairs

display cabinet

telephone table

If you think you can help then please get in contact through DM.

Thank you

My condolences to you.

It’s always sad when you have to clear away the residue of someone’s life. I would love to be able to help but I am still in the process of sorting out my wife’s possessions plus the tools and stock from my business of 45 years.

There are companies who will take the lot off you and also second hand furniture stores to consider. It’s not an easy task. My wife and I spent our lifetimes building and furnishing a house for a family of four which then became two and is now just the one. We, sorry, I still have some furniture and possessions from two of my wife’s relatives and my children aren’t interested. Before too long they will have to go through all my stuff and I don’t envy them.

Being honest, there is not a lot of value in second hand furniture these days, sad though that may be, and when you consider storage and transport costs you might want to consider a quick and simple disposal.

I wish you all the best.

Thank you for the feedback, you are probably right about the quick jobs lot.
