Ken Tone Posted February 16 Posted February 16 Read somewhere that he's been used in midfield as well as defence? I could see him being a success as a defensive midfielder. He's naturally defensive but is a bit short for a centre back. So with him and Shea Charles behind Fernandes, that's our midfield sorted for next year.
austsaint Posted February 16 Posted February 16 A bit optimistic to think we’ll keep Fernandes. But your point is well made - both the loan moves of Edwards and Charles have worked well for all parties, and both could/should be first team starters (for us) next season.
BarberSaint Posted February 16 Posted February 16 Bloody good player. Glad we got him. Really should have tried to develop him more. Nothing like Jack Stephens: he can play. 1
macca155 Posted April 9 Posted April 9 Nothing pisses me off more, than seeing one of our few decent players strutting his stuff for another side. Stupid decision to send him on loan. Why the hell would he come back here. Guess the new manager might persuade him.

Expand Other than the fact that we own his contract and we’re likely to be playing much higher up the league than QPR next season? He was never going to do anything other than struggle here this season, if he got on the pitch at all. Amongst all the awful transfer decisions we’ve made this season, I can’t see why anyone would have a problem with loaning our RE. 7

Expand He was going to be sent out on loan to a Championship team on the day we signed him last August, pretty obvious that would happen. He wasn’t signed to be first choice Premier League centre back. Very sensible decision and the club proven to be spot on. 9
Andrew Watson Posted April 9 Posted April 9 A goal and another very good performance this evening. Definately ready for next seaon, unless the pricks in charge do the unfathomable and decide to sell him. No doubt one of the pedantic clowns on here will have some thing to say about that. 1

macca155 Posted April 10 Posted April 10 Ok so forum opinion is against me on this one, fair enough. However I remain convinced that he could have been a better option than Wood, Stephens, THB when out of form, and definitely ABK. Obviously not thrown straight in, but a decent manager could have cultivated that talent. If he wants off that contract will be worthless. We've seen that enough times. So there 😃 1

qwertyell Posted April 10 Posted April 10 I mean, QPR were conceding 1.32 goals per game before our star centre back was nonsensically allowed to forgo single handedly saving our season to go and shore up QPR's defence to the tune of, uh, 1.4 goals conceded per game. Sure, he might have made their defence statistically worse, and a 5' 10" centre back of no great pace or physicality is at odds with the player profile the new sporting director wants to bring in, but at least he looks composed. That's the main thing, I guess.

S-Clarke Posted April 10 Posted April 10 We made some pretty terrible calls in the summer, in fact 90% of them were terrible calls, but the decision to sign Edwards and then send him out in Jan to get some game time were probably our best two calls. He will be like a breath of fresh air for us next season, we just need to get his partner right. (Please, not Bednarek anymore) 12

Expand I know I'm on my own here, so hard hat on. However I have seen most of his appearances, and yes I think he could have featured more. He'd have needed careful game management, but I'm sure we wouldn't have seen the weak as piss effort ABK put in. My main issue is that the team was screaming out for a defensive midfielder. Ronnie goes on loan to QPR and pops up in their midfield. Did no one at the club think about trying Ronnie there in cup games and sub appearances. Might not have worked but an opportunity lost. Same for Wood, you are right there. I thought he put in some decent performances but seemed to lose his way.
