SAINTS have confirmed the arrival of young forward Victor Udoh on a permanent transfer from Belgian side Royal Antwerp,

 

The 20 year old Nigerian attacker has penned a three-and-a-half-year contract ahead of a move to St Mary's.

Udoh has made 28 senior appearances for Belgian top-flight side Antwerp since joining them in 2023 from the Hypebuzz FC academy in Abuja.

His best performances have come for the youthful Royal Antwerp II side, who play in Belgium's third tier, scoring 12 times in 21 appearances last season.

 

He has made 12 appearances in the Pro League this season but has only racked up 75 minutes of action in total.

The expectation is for Udoh to play for the club's under-21s initially, in a similar move to French defender Joachim Kayi Sanda, who arrived last month from Valenciennes.

Udoh's arrival takes Southampton's winter arrival counter up to four with Albert Gronbaek the only senior signing.

A deal to sign young Ivorian defender Abakar Sylla on loan from Strasbourg fell through in the final hours of deadline day.

As with a few signings this year, looks to be one brought in ready for next season or to go to Turkey next season, rather than to help us stay up

Göztepe does not recruit foreign players under 1.80, the only exception from the transfers made in the last 2 years is 1.77 Juan, and he is the 2nd striker. Göztepe plays 3-4-1-2 and does not prefer wingers. There is a limit of 14 foreign players in Türkiye.

Strange signing even for the u21s, Belgium Third Division is National League level, League 2 at very best. Even for SR this is a strange one.

My source at the club (could be the one that @MB knows) said we did not want him at all; apparently Ivan asked SR to get Victor Hugo in from Goztepe, where he is a regular starter and playing well, to strengthen our midfield, especially with the problems at present with Downes, and we ended up with Victor Oh doh instead.  Oops, I mean Victor Udoh.
