Bournemouth next at home. Let's not get ahead of ourselves but it would be bloody brilliant to win that. All of sudden we could only be only 7 points from safety.

Ok I'll shut up now. 😜

What a weird non-sequitur argument that is. People also wrote off Carrillo and said we should be aiming for better, that doesn't mean he's in any way comparable to Chris Wood.

I think people need to realise in this season of disappointment we need talismen to cling to every game to give us hope and belief we can win each game and potentially for the rest of the season that something miraculous could happen.

No one is disputing if we had a blank cheque again that we would be buying these same players but in the shit sandwich of this season this is all we've got to eat.

Let's focus on Burnley in the cup, get a win and suddenly it's 2 games 2 games undefeated playing football the Southampton way , can't wait to resurrect that song

It is and we just want to get some pride back, nice to see another team getting booed off instead of us, as a fan base think we deserve a lot of credit to be honest, stuck with them mostly in such an awful season

I was baking a batch of coconut corn muffins when the winning goal was scored. I guess I will have to do the same next week to keep the winning streak going. Bad news for Mrs SOG as she planned to start a diet next week.

In the 2011-2012 promotion season, every time we went a goal down i had to go out for a quick drive to get us a goal back.

Not at games I attended, obviously.

Great day up here. My 11 year and his mate singing on the walk back to the coach ....owning Ipswich.

The 8/9 year old next to me started crying when we scored. Couldn't work out whether someone had bumped in to him (it was a bit manic) or he was just crying at the realisation that he was going to watch us win a game!

Possibly the realisation of how long he would have to wait for his next win, dawned on him. 🙂

Onuachu was getting stick on here, and my stream was terrible so it was hard to properly see what was going on, but in between bouts of buffering and hot grannies in my area it looked like he won more than his fair share of headers when it was lumped up to him, and just needed someone closer to him picking up the second ball a bit more. Plus of course he reacted well to knock in the winner. Looked like he did alright, all told.

I liked Onuachu today. Invariably it was hoofed up the pitch and he always seemed to get to or close to the ball. Once Sule came on we looked moderately good.

Certainly think Welly is better than any of our other options and has a lot of potential and so pleased that AA was nowhere to be seen.

Nice to win and best the tractor people

sky's table suggested we had a 0.01%chance of staying up which seems unduly pessimistic to me

14 games left, 28-30 points needed, a 2 point per game ratio, essentially over a 38 game season that would mean 76 points, easily a top 4 finish.  Even in the Koeman season we only got 63 points. We’re done and 0.01% is probably accurate, if not generous. It would be nice to end the season in some form though.

MLG please fact check that maths. Ta.

Strange game, because for a large part we were absolutely dreadful. Midfield cut open, defensive gaps, misplaced passes, Ipswich looked quicker to everything.

If you compare it to the Man Utd away performance, that was a miles better display.

And yet... who the fuck cares, we won!! Absolute pandemonium in the away end!! We owe them that one for their late goals

"Southampton, it's happened again"... yup it certainly has. See you next season hahahaha

Interesting that our 2 wins have come from games that we haven’t played particularly well, but we’ll take it.

5 at the back is completely pointless if you’re not going to have any of your 3 CBs within 10 yards of their strikers, and there’s a chasm in the middle of your central midfield that the opposition can stroll through at will.

Need to be far better to get anything out of Bournemouth and Brighton.

I think there is a style of play which with the right players around him, sees Onuachu leading the line for a team comfortably avoiding relegation, yes.

One stat that made me chuckle was when we just scored and were 1-0 up the TV flashed up the %chance to win the match according to the prediction stats they have and we were still like 22% to win and Ipswich still 49% even tho they were losing 🤣

Probably the later. He isn't really old enough to remember a Saints team winning.

On the other had he could have bet all his pocket money on another defeat

How crap must Ipswich be? They lose to us on their own patch and, but for a jammy last minute equaliser at St Marys, we'd have done the double over them 🙂

Hopefully this is the game that we look back at as the game where the players rediscovered their mojo.

Next up is Burnley, Bournemouth and Brighton at home, got to be a good opportunity to build on this and finally put that Derby hoodoo to bed.

Feels good for once.

cba to read through this… had poor signal at work so struggled with updates.

someone cut the BS and provide a summary please?

How did Wellington play?

How did Gronbaek play?

Is THB dead?

How spaccy did the fans go with the second goal?

You'll see the goals so will summarise the rest.

1st half - mostly pretty even. We look like a sane football team again which is good. The tracking back is much better this week from all players. THB is having a mare, can't seem to pass it properly and not looking great at the back either. A couple of times our press traps them in their defensive third which is nice too.

2nd half - they come out fired up after the break and we're a bit under the cosh, but they don't manage to create any great chances. Delap is just bossing Bednarek. Later in the half Bree seems to end up on him (dunno if the players or manager made the change) and does an excellent job. Scrappy game in the most part not helped by subs. However the last 20 minutes or so they created absolutely sweet FA which is nice for a change.

- Wellington was impressive, solid technically, not afraid to take a man on or cross and worked hard getting up and down the left. He didn't look tired until he cramped up suddenly after a great defensive header but not surprising given the awkward overlap with the Brazilian season and his lack of games.

-Gronbaek had some nice touches but nothing quite decisive. Clearly a good technical player and also forward thinking / will have a go. Also had a good moment tracking back at some point.

- No idea what's up with THB but he wasn't at the races today and then injured himself somehow.

Potentially a good time to play Brighton, they've got Chelsea at home twice in six days before they play us. We'll see in those two games how much of a glass chin they've got, following a 7-0.

Good day out today, ref and linesman combined to give them nearly every marginal call, Wellington was a joy to behold with his marauding and chasing back. KWP seemed unwilling to put crosses in, Paul looked completely fucked by 50 mins but still popped up 🍻. Fernandes usual relentless engine. Ramsdale kept us in it

Subs appeared awful on paper but somehow it worked. Hats off to Aribo for his sensational CB cameo

Juric has made this team worth watching despite how low on quality we are, fair play

Of course Ipswich are not very good so fully expect us to lose our next 4 in the league

Wellington was the surprise highlight of the day for me.   He looks the LB we haven’t had since Bertrand.  Quick, good touch. Neat passing and crosses and stayed tight defensively.  Immediately looked a Prem class LB which is something we haven’t had for ages.  The Gronbaek debut was also impressive.  Given that the 3 CBs set up appears so chaotic, why not revert to 4-3-3 with KWP and Wellington, two CBs and Downes, Les and Aribo in midfield.   Aribo was immense today and his makeshift role in defence was outstanding.    Once again the Sulemana impact was huge.  Juric deserves credit for getting better out of players like Sully, Onuachu and Ugochukwu.     The win was fortunate today but lets hope Juric gets the chance to re-shape the side, finish this season well and build a squad capable of winning automatic promotion.

Spot on analysis. Our centre backs don’t mark up and have no pace at all…. Yet they continue to be picked every game which is pretty odd considering we have alternatives on the bench which we obviously have no intention of using…. Why have Bella Kotchup on the bench at all?????

it doesn’t make sense….

Not quite sure how we won that but we deserved a bit of luck. Their goalkeeper seems a liability. Welington looks lively so hopefully he'll still be around next season.

The dismal season the Saints have so far suffered has caused me to lose a bit of interest. Yesterday afternoon saw Scotland play Italy in the Six Nations followed by Ireland v England. I settled down in front of the TV and saw a thoroughly entertaining game which the Scots won 31-19. The match in Dublin followed but a few minutes in, I remembered Saints were away at Ipswich. Hastily, I opened the SofaScore app and much to my amazement I saw Saints had just scored, were now ahead and were a couple of minutes into 8 minutes of stoppage time.

Being a realist, I prepared myself for inevitable disappointment - after all, alongside “death” and “taxes”, Saints-conceding-a-last-minute-of-stoppage-time-goal-against-Ipswich is one of life’s fundamental guarantees. Imagine my bewilderment when I glanced at the final score and saw we had hung on and had all three points.

Probably trying to patch to the VAR system at that point.

Just watching the brief highlights and for their goal i assume (big assumption) the instruction to our CBs was to man mark their forward players.

THB came out to compete with his man for a header (then doesnt follow) who is on the right touchline below.

Bree was tracking his man whose in front of Aribo and plays the killer pass.

Bednerak is then completely in no mans land cos THB is not recovering although i think he should of realised Wellington was getting back but even before this mess he should of been closer to delap given he's man marking.

But in order blame i am saying

THB > Bednerak > Bree

My guess is we think he’ll be more pissed off having to sit on the bench with no hope of getting on - and hence want to leave - than he will being free to do his own thing each match day.

I've heard within Staplewood ABK hasn't made himself particularly popular,  it's funny really as the club are quite prepared to let him leave yet no one wants him, you'd have thought that would make him humble and want to work hard.

We now have several centre backs injured so let's see if he.plays against Burnley

We have been playing a man marking system all over the pitch since Jurics first game. He talked about being a Bielsa fan early on.

Yeah its the gasperini way, in that case then THB is more culapble losing the discipline for not following his man after losing the header as he just lets him go putting in benderak in enough of a quandary to give delap the gap he needs to get past.

Dont think THB will be back in when he is fit, needs a break.

When Stephens got injured, we brought on Smallbone and dropped Aribo to CB rather than bring on ABK. Seems a good opportunity for the local press to ask why not ABK?

What a win! Great efforts all round.

On the highlights (just before they broke and Ugochukwu and Ramsdale combined to keep them out) Harwood-Bellis had bombed forward like an attacking midfielder and had to sprint 90 yards back.

Bednarek was in the box to score against Newcastle from open play.

I don't know if they are told to get forward because there are 3 of them, or they are just going a bit mad due to the season they're having.

There's a positional balance to be found somewhere, but it might take a while.

Genuine question, is THB a good defender? I know he's a pretty good ball player, but what about all the without the ball stuff?
