Doesn't mean a great deal in the grand scheme of things other than potentially dragging Ipswich back to the Championship with us but we haven't had the winning feeling much so let's enjoy it and finally watch MOTD in anticipation.

I still want us to ditch the 3 CBs. A 4141 with Ramsdale, KWP, THB, Bednarek, Wellington, Les, Dibling, Fernandes, Gronbaek, Sulemana, Onuachu IMO would be an interesting and attacking way to go. Outscore teams rather than attempt defending. But that's for another day.

He is shite. I think we all know that, but he is somehow also the most impactful of our strikers.

So he won his aerial duels then ?

I am not sure you are familar with a target man in a pressing team but they generally arent the guys who have high completion stats for passing or retaining possession as balls after flying towards them as they battle.

Step away from the stats, he did a good job for us, i agree i would prefer a delap type forward but tall paul is showing effort and results now he is playing regulary and am happy for him.

He's not everyones stylistic footballer but we have no decent forwards for a long long time they all have their faults.

Thought Wellington looked like a decent player. Fast, aggressive, decent touch. Reminded me of Marcelo a bit. 

Groeoeenenebaaaeck did well for a debut although we didn't get him and Fernandes on the ball enough.

It was the same for Newcastle's third. The players obviously haven't quite clicked with it yet. As we've seen this happen quite a lot of late.

Seems that as soon as the opposition win the ball around half way line, our CBs have a super high line and about 30yards of space between them. It's nuts.

Juric needs to focus on it in training or switch something more standard.

 

Anyway. Who cares, we won! After the last three games we played them, where we deserved so much more than we got, I'm glad we got one over on them.

with relegation all but certain on the 1st of Feb, that is surely a sign that despite everything, and at 63 years old, there is no chance of me ever not caring . Better get used to it.

We were mediocre on the ball, but there were some good things, to enjoy, esp the debutants,and I thought Smallbone was really good.

Can’t see the virtue in the three CB approach really,but I’m sure Juric knows more than me about such things.

Exhibit A of fucking clueless fans. The one striker we have with a physical presence who actually knows where the net is and has a prolific scoring ratio, and you don’t want to play him. He’s the best we’ve got right now in terms of a focal point up front. Who would you suggest replaces him as a genuine centre forward then? Laughable

I haven't said don't play him. Incredibly, he is our best striker.

I said he cannot be on the team sheet in this league, as in he isn't good enough for this league. Nowhere near. What I'm saying is based in reality, because we are one of the worst teams in history.

Agree, wouldn't it great to get 2 league victories on the bounce, one for that reason alone but it would also mean we'd have beaten those little upstarts from along the coast (they've got so gobby in recent times) and we had condemned Derby to the worse PL side of all time. Anything else would just be a bonus after that...

Ah ok, agree with your reply. He isn’t premier league level really, agree there, but FOR US, he’s the best we’ve got which says more about us. I think the previous annoyance was that even worse strikers than him, who have no physical presence so weren’t even getting a kick, were getting a stack more game time. He probably needs to start 80-90% of our games in reality unless we somehow sign a better centre forward by Monday.

Tall Paul will score goals in the division if we get enough crosses in… we’ll also score goals because he causes opposition defences to panic and they’ll leave other players free..  bednarek goal last week as an example. He often keeps 2 defenders busy.

If we had someone who was the opposite of Onuachus stats we'd have someone who completed all their passes, won the ball repeatedly, won the ball in the air all the time and was never offside...but didn't score the winner.

I never said that. What I was implying through what I said, was that I'm sick of players being written off because they don't fit into Guardiolas modern football revolution of uber efficient, hard working, possession retaining clones that work well when you can spend a billion on a squad but when you try to replicate it with 50p to your name fails entirely. Get some players in with strong attributes in certain areas and play to those strengths.

He played OK,he got involved , he worked hard, he's not a world beater, some good stuff mixed with bad.

I had the displeasure of watching Burnley today, who are THE most boring team I’ve ever seen play live in 25 years. Even their fans sang ‘boring, boring Burnley’. James Trafford is an absolute odd ball by the way but a cracking GK.

Welington was a pleasant surprise. Very attack minded, worked hard, got up and down all day and doesn’t mind a tackle. Early days of course but on today’s showing he could do very well in the championship.

You seem to have missed out what is undoubtedly his most important stat - he scored one goal.

I was baking a batch of coconut corn muffins when the winning goal was scored. I guess I will have to do the same next week to keep the winning streak going. Bad news for Mrs SOG as she planned to start a diet next week.
