Anyone else still keep thinking that at some point we'll go on a bit of a run and pick up 6 - 10 points? (How tragic does that sound?) Of course we're down but I still have hope that we'll eclipse Derby's record..

If Juric can help them pull out some Man Utd displays and second half Saturday, they might encounter some mid-table outfits towards the end of the season dreaming of Barbados and not fancying a few challenges going in. 2-3 wins would do it.

Say it quick enough, and it sounds plausible enough.

When you look at this fixture, part of me thinks, “do we have to” ?

If we fail to turn up I think it’s only a 3-0 defeat imposed by default.

Ah the good old days where Newcastle would come down South and play us off the park only for Le Tissier to score a worldie (or two). Nowadays they seem to be able to beat us no matter how many they have on the pitch. At least we have one thing in common with them this season - a sense of outrage at Bereton-Diaz.

2-1 to Saints. They're not going to be able to cope with our free scoring football.

Just remember we only need two wins to go past Derby.

We used to have a very good home record against these but not since Eddie Howe went there. Time to change that and get a much needed victory. We still owe them for the time under Covid they pulled the player shortage card so let's make Saturday pay-back time.

There are 5 games we could win. All bottom half of tables teams. If games were 70 mins and no added time and only 2 subs then 8 games.

It's shame we're are looking at fixtures trying to find 5 points. London games used to be a great away day with all fans expecting 3 points or at least 1.

they took a humping last time out so not sure if that was a good or bad thing. Hopefully Juric looked at how Bournemouth took them apart and has a similar plan.

we aint Bournemouth.

Just the six consecutive defeats against them, in all comps. Last time we beat them at St Mary’s we went top of the league.

That feels such a long time ago, wish I'd bought one of those t-shirts now

No, sorry! Certainly not against the Toon

I agree. They will be smarting after that defeat at home from Bournemouth and looking to revive the momentum they had before that game. Then along comes Southampton, right on cue!

According to Juric:

Ramsdale has 'done something in training yesterday' and will be assessed tomorrow.

Sulemana has a hamstring injury & is not available.

Gronbaek only started training with the team today so is unlikely to feature.

Doesn't really bode well for Saturday with both Sulemana & Dibling out🤦‍♂️

I think we might lose this now 😕

My expectations are getting lower to what a good target is, nil nil at half time and time waste second half to piss them off, maybe get one of their players sent off so we can cling on for a point.

Maybe reading between the lines we've agreed to sell him to Newcastle 🙂

Worked fantastically on the first day of the season.

They could rework that t-shirt, just drop the 'O' from 'STOP THE C*UNT', change the date and replace the league table with a photo of someone suitable. I have an idea who'd likely be the most popular choice.

Whats the odds on a 0-9 I wonder.

Newcastle looking to bounce back after a poor result against Bournemouth. They've also had our number since the Saudis came in (before that, Newcastle at home used to be a comfortable win for us).

We're, well, very poor and will be missing Ramsdale (possibly), Dibling and Sulemana. Great.

All I ask is for us to still be in the game after an hour and who knows what could happen

                     Ramsdale 🤞🏼

          THB   Bednarek   Wood

KWP          Les      Aribo        Manning

                    Fernandes

              Onuachu   Archer

Same team for me too. With no Sulemana or Dibling, both who have been very good lately, I’d be interested in seeing an Onuachu/Archer pairing.  I still think AA will start though.

It’s probably delusion and rose tints but I still think we have it in us to surpass 20 points this season. It would require getting, and keeping, everyone fit but it’s doable. Still shit but at least we’d only be a mild laughing stock rather than a huge one.

Not a chance. I don’t think we’ll make 10 points.

Feels like delusion. That would be winning 3 more games absolute minimum and I cannot see those games.

3 wins plus 5 draws = 20 points. That's half of our remaining games we'd have to get something from.

Even if we win on Saturday (the trip to Southampton used to be a bogey fround for Newcastle) I still don't think we're getting to 20.

Would start Onuachu here as even though I don't think he'll have much success against Burns and Botman, I'd rather a quicker forward like Sully or Archer coming off the bench fresh when those two are tiring/complacent.

Onuachu also does deserve the benefit of a start after getting his first goal.

FFS.

Who do we even have to play wide left and right?

Oh, the memories, courtesy of the Toon.  Good and bad ones in this list of past games:

https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/fabian-schar-turns-air-blue-30846655

We’ve had some cracking games against them.

In my first season (88/89) of watching Saints we beat them 1-0, a Neil Ruddock penalty which brought an end to a horrendous winless run.

They were relegated that year and when they were promoted we had a run of Le Tissier scoring worldies as in that run of games in the article.

He didn’t score in one of my favourite Dell night games, 1 goal down and we score 3 late goals to win 3-1 in 1995. The night they told the Archers Road end to sit down over the tannoy seemed to rouse the crowd to an unlikely victory.

That FA Cup game they mention in the article, I remember one of the best performances by an away player at St Mary’s, Kieron Dyer was superb that day.

Our terrible run against them starts pretty much from our decline in fortunes after the end of the Koeman team in 2016, with the exception of our Covid win to put us top.

I wish I could be more optimistic about a result tomorrow.

AA and Fraser. Yay.

Edit - I'd rather see SAA given a game than watch AA do what he does all game.

The cynic in me says that Ramsdale and Sulemana are a pair of sick notes just like Downes.

The cynic in me says that Sulemana has done enough on the last few games to put himself in the shop window to get his move - not bothered about the club one bit, and doesn’t want to risk himself any further.

I may be way off the mark here, but Downes and Ramsdale have only just come back from fairly routine injuries (dead leg, broken finger) that took far too long to get over.

Both have been disappointing this season.

Couldn’t give a fuck.  They knew the weather was coming and should have travelled yesterday.

Tbf given the weather forecast they can easily travel down later today or, God forbid, the morning of the match !! Its not that long a flight and the gales/rain is only going to affect them if they go via Glasgow or the Isle of Man !!

Obviously getting their excuses in early for when they fall to our silky yet gritty style of football courtesy of Armstrong, Aribo and Smallbone !
