Sunglasses Ron Posted January 21 Posted January 21 (edited) The most regrettable thing about this complete cowpat of a season is that it probably ended for me around the 01st October (when we lost convincingly to Bournemouth). That has effectively meant nearly a year of footballing wilderness with the only carrot being 'beating' Derby's worst ever points tally record. What a thoroughly depressing situation. I just live in hope that Juric can get a tune out a few players and that we actually look like a normal football team for a few months (this will hopefully be helped by a few teams that are 'on the beach' making us look a lot better than we really are). rallyboy Posted January 21 Posted January 21 The thing that will piss me of is when we get relegated in March (?), is if we see TV shots of blubbing adults, shocked that this has suddenly happened. The time to be sad/annoyed was a few months back when it was obvious. This will be the least surprising relegation in history. 3 1
sadoldgit Posted January 21 Posted January 21 I think that most of us thought that we wouldn’t survive this season. The only surprise is how bad we have been. The upside is that hopefully it has been a wake up call for the owners and that they will finally realise how important quality recruitment is from the players to the non playing roles. 4
Saint86 Posted January 21 Posted January 21 (edited) Whilst detailing how much of a basket case club Montpellier are currently (there game with Monaco was temporarily suspended because the fans staged a dance music protest - that was so loud the ref had to stop the game), Montpellier were described as "the Southampton of Ligue 1". This was on national radio (talksport). Its pretty grim. My 6 year old is getting regular banter from all the Liverpool/Arsenal/City fans at school - I think the main reason he's still a Saints fan is because he got to go to Wembley, but without doubt this current team/run is going to cost the club a lot of future fans - which is the lifeblood of the club - will become even more problematic if Brighton and Bournemouth continue to excel in the top flight. The sad part is i think we could possibly have stayed up under Juric - had he been appointed earlier, or if we could have picked up just a few points from the fulham - forest games. Possibly attract 1-2 decent players in and made a fight of it. But the best thing we can do now is something get to 12 points, and make sure we're ready for next season. I really hope we keep Juric though as it stands. Edited January 24 by Saint86 2 1

If we don't get a result against Ipswich on 1st Feb then we will be facing the inevitable. After that match we will have 5 games before 29th March, the date Derby County were relegated with 11 points, to try to salvage some shreds of self-esteem. The problem is those teams are Bournemouth, Brighton, Chelsea, Liverpool and Wolves. With the exception of Wolves, all the others have their sights set on the Premier League title, Champions League places and European football. I can't think Southampton will stop them in their tracks. Expand You forget that the table will have the inevitable 'R' next to our name right up until the end of the season adding to our humiliation 2

Just when we thought the stench of those thrashings had finally worn off, Russell Martin rocks up with his one-dimensional, delusional tactics, turning us into a proper meme. Chatting with my mates who support other clubs, it's gotten even worse - we've gone from being the league's laughing stock to them actually pitying us. Suppose in the midst of all this apathy towards the club, I've come to the grim realisation that there's a genuine chance we'll break Derby's record. Question is, am I the only one feeling this way? How much more humiliation can you possibly stomach? Expand Fastest goal and fastest hatrick. It will be hard to beat either of them. This season is a writeoff. 2Morrow Posted January 22 Posted January 22 (edited) If you only support a team when they win, what on earth are you doing supporting Southampton football club. I'm not from the era but we've had Branfoot, in my time Redknapp, Poortvielt, Pellegrino, Hughes, Jones, Selles (not entirely his fault), the start of this season under Martin. This comes with the territory. If you can't take the banter don't engage with it, goodness me we lost 9 nil how funny! I can't think of anything worse than being a top 6 fan, the winning can't taste as nice when its conpletely bought and paid for. Season after season of nothing if you dont win a trophy, the lows we have amplify the highs. I will never forget going up vs Coventry, 8 nil vs sunderland, Manes fastest hat trick, Cuca Martina vs Arsenal, finishing 5th and 6th, the league cup final, Inter milan home and away, Gabbiadini vs Swansea, Shane Longs fastest goal, JWPs free kicks, the play off final etc. Etc. Plymouth, Rotherham, Colchester fans would kill for the above for their team. So what we suck this year. Football is not just about winning, and if it is for you perhaps you should re evaluate your relationship with your club and work out why. Edited January 22 by 2Morrow 11

Expand Err, what’s this ‘winning’ thing you speak of? 🤔 There are so many questions… Seriously though, with the number of posts you have I’m suspecting you’ve not grasped the concept of banter on a football forum. Letting off a bit of steam in a responsible manner never hurt anyone, let alone a professional football club. There can’t be too many supporters that are not grateful for the highs, however even the most optimistic among us are starting to question the length of this barren period. 2
