Well, perhaps not Liverpool.

Love seeing them lose

Pleased for Plymouth

But...makes me even more pissed off when luck of the draw could have seen us progress quite far.

You’re labouring under the misapprehension that there is logic in SR’s running of the club.

No, I’m basing it on the assumption that if we’re not doing something so straight forward, obvious and fundamental then there must be a reason for it. We may be badly managed but we’re not slapstick cartoon mismanaged, as much as people would like to pretend we are.

Good for Plymouth and for the FA Cup. And if they build on today and their last result v WBA it could be another headache for Pompey.

We wouldn’t have progressed any further if we’d have scraped by on penalties yesterday - the spirit, work ethic, determination you saw at Home Park today, this Saints squad don’t have any of that which you need to go deep in cup competitions let alone win the things.

I would contend that in our case the line between those two is extremely blurred.

What has happened to the magic of the FA Cup?

Yesterday was a non-event for Saints and I can’t find any highlights on the main TV channels. This round doesn’t end until Tuesday evening and the draw for the next is Monday night on the One Show of all places.

It’s not what it used to be.

It doesn’t exist, it’s a media construct to get people to tune into a competition which is little more than an unwanted distraction for 90% of clubs involved. People like to romanticise about how great it used to be but honestly, did anyone care about Bradford vs Watford in the eighties?

I rather suspect that the fans of Bradford and Watford did.

If you don’t think the FA Cup was a huge competition in the 80s then you either weren’t old enough or didn’t watch football.

It used to grip the whole country.  Unfortunately, it’s now no more than a sideshow.

Well as pointed out if you consider the BBC not a main TV channel, or Sky for that matter you might miss the highlights. But then maybe it's not on everyone's titwobbleface feed.

Also it was pointed out this morning on radio 4 (again, one of those fringe stations requiring more than goldfish style attention) by arrogantly underestimating or undervaluing the competition the big 5/6/7 are actually making it a bit more interesting. Plymouth will have a little cheer this morning anyway, in a otherwise horrible season for them.

Better than watching round 6 of a bizzare champions league first stage preliminary game between two teams mostly focussed on not losing anyway.

Saints were awful with the game another hard watch for our fans but I for one would not put staying in an increasingly bias EPL above a decent FA cup run anymore. Others with bigger brains than this bear will disagree of course.

Absolutely, averages attendances would go up for a cup game , not down like they do now, even replays used to generate great excitement with some great nights under the lights. People wouldn't believe you now if you tried to explain 2nd or 3rd replays!

Exactly. Who can forget Saturday mornings with all the build up atmosphere. Nothing will ever beat FA Cup It’s a Knockout.

It used to be just about the only game all season that was televised live and at Wembley too! Nowadays it doesn’t even kick off at 3 o’clock.

Maybe it's my age but I remember Ricky Villa, 'and Smith must score' , Coventry's win, Trevor Brooking but I'm buggered if I can remember last year's final because it's no longer an event. Cheers FA and PL for ruining it

We 100% definitely would have got Preston away in the next round.

As you well know, chaos theory/butterfly effect means that is unlikely to be the draw Saints would have if they won 🦋 😉

Just seen the draw and hastily logged onto Saintsweb in anticipation of witnessing this very interaction :)

(MLG is of course correct ;) )

Really frustrating result on Saturday. We had chances to get in front but we didn't take them. Second half we started well without creating much and then we conceded unfortunately. Last ten minutes there was no urgency atall. We have got to have a reaction this week.

I’ve listened to a few football podcasts this week and some of them covered the Burnley defeat.

We’ve rightfully earned the right to be ridiculed due to our shocking league performance so far but what irks me is the discussion on whether it was a “cup upset”.

The so called experts say “of course it wasn’t” because only three places separate us in the football pyramid. Where’s the context here? We’re in a league that includes the best teams in the world, one that Burnley were relegated from last season.  Burnley are in the same league that we pretty much breezed last season, and I’m sure we were in the exact same position Burnley are in now at the same stage of the season.

Fair enough there’s not much between us on paper and I’m sure most of us wouldn’t describe it as a cup upset before or after the game, but the argument is meaningless without comparing the teams we face each week compared to Burnley.

It won’t happen but I’d love us to restore a bit of pride for the rest of the season and give it a good go. It’s embarrassing that we’ve sunk this low.
