I’m not sure I’d agree that today was “experimenting” to be honest, though there is a bit of truth to the injury situation (although tbf we did have two centre backs on the bench so it’s not as if we were completely out of options).

The ABK charade needs to be ended, clearly no intent to play him, I'm not convinced he even wants to play, stop putting him on the bench

I think ABK is bad juju but his limbo of a situation does seem a bit odd.

Attendance today - 15,253

For a Saturday 3pm cup game that is appalling and club should be worried.

They certainly didn't help with prices and stand closure but even with that shows a lot of dissatisfied fans

Clearly there is some reason why we put him on the bench but I can’t for the life of me figure it out. Maybe it’s a shop window thing trying to show that he is fit, who knows. Maybe he’s just one of those great lads to have in the changing room, that I keep hearing so much about.

He played 4 full-backs and had 2 centre backs on the bench.  Ridiculous.

One he really doesn’t like and one who’s coming back from injury and possibly not worth the risk. That’s not why we lost though, the players were generally pathetic.

Our best team couldn’t score against a second string Burnley, next season will be more of the same I’m afraid.

Burnley have only let 9 goals in this season compared to our 36. Who's second string?

Ok
Juric was poor today as were Fernandes and Dibling.
Training this week:
How to trap a ball.
How to pass a ball along the ground…..!!!!!
How to press.
FITNESS - Burnley were twice as fit as us!!!!
How to look and pass forwards.

That will do for now.

Priorities.
1. Three twenty six mile runs!
2. Head up, pass forwards.
3. Trapping a ball.
4. Passing along the ground.
5. Pressing properly.
6. Watch how Burnley played in technical detail.
7. Juric. Be ahead of the game, we were being completely outplayed in midfield and you let it ride! Sort it out!

I agree with your comment on fitness.
Burnley were at it at a much higher pace than we were.
We have no movement up front and I am afraid Tall Paul is nowhere near the answer and there is no one else in the squad who can provide an option as a central striker.
I am dreading next week when there is every chance that Bournemouth will tear us apart.

We need to stop being lied to about ABK. Juric has stated he is fit and wants to play, he is getting on the bench but not being given a single minute on the pitch.  Something does not add up so let's hear the truth.

Pretty obvious club have given up… not even to try and get a loan in speaks volumes. Don’t think juric will feel like he’s supported and will be off in the summer.

Our owner can do one, to sit and watch all this happen under his watch is unforgivable and we need a total reset in the summer. Club seems so disconnected to the fans.

didn’t get todays formation… just bizarre.  Fear for next week and Bournemouth could quite easily get 5 or 6 waltzing through our midfield.

What a total waste of money and time. Bring back Russell Martin oh hold on the new manager is RM version2. Useless team selection,  idiotic subs, sideways football.  Why on earth didn't Saints by 2 forwards who can shoot. This was as bad as football gets, Burnley made us look shit. I really dobf see the point of the new manager, sell him and get players who can kick a ball towards the net, it's simple.

Devil’s advocate, but a CB is probably the least likely of players to get a few minutes of a game unless you’re trying to shore things up, and we’re very rarely in that situation. I agree though, it is somewhat weird.

If I'd had my way back in 2001 we'd have kept The Dell for reserve games and for use in less popular cup ties, would have been ideal for days like today

But if he is fit and wants to play stick him in from the start particularly in a game like today. Nobody can judge him while he's sat on the bench. If there is no intention of giving him any minutes than leave him out of the squad entirely rather than waste one spot.

That was grim, again. Formation without a striker didn’t help, but too many of our lot were way too casual. No bollocks the lot of em.

Sick of it.

Agree with all of that. Fans didn't even boo at full time but the players absolutely deserve it for that shower of shit. They flattered to devieve today, and didn't really try/care. Almost like they're on holiday and waiting for the exits. Any other fanbase with give them both barrels and then some, but we just clap along like we're conditioned to it now. Eitherway we were outclassed by a championship team who had more shots on goal and a higher xG than us despite coming to park the bus. We won't be as strong as this next season, so it should be setting off serious alarm bells throughout the club and the fanbase.

Question marks starting to appear over juric as well.

And that is why I do not hold the confidence that some do on our ability to be competitive next year. We were inept, hamstrung by our losing habit and home form which doesn't exit. I'm not seeing the 'good things' that Juric claims to have seen either. A bunch of utter trash in that 11, some good players for sure, but they are brought down so badly by the utter trash we've managed to acquire over the last few years.

We'll lose anyone who can play football in the summer, and we'll be left with the likes of Bree and Fraser to build around. I really don't expect anything next year other than a bumbling stoke-style season.

We've got a long road ahead of us.

Do well to finish top half next season with this manager

At one point deep in the second half, Aribo moved back to left centre half, manning went to left wing back and Wellington went into the middle but actually just joined Manning. Les had gone off. Smallbone replaced him and was on quite an advanced position. The central midfield area was pretty much vacant. Juric needs to explain, because I am struggling to understand what the hell we were doing.

The manager is f-in terrible

consistently surrendering the middle of the park, and his man-marking system usually leaves us 3 against 3 when defending

fucking clown

Couldn’t afford to, needed the land sale to move into SMS and would have been a hassle with the asbestos roofs degrading etc.

Agree, club has given up, players can't play above walking pace and stupid football is well and truly Saints tactic. This is not football, watching Birmingham and the getstuvk in, run, can't sprint, dribble and shoot. Wouldn't surprise me if the manager just packed up and left after next 2 games. And Some of the players must have been told thier exit deal this morning.

Well that was a super depressing trek to watch us lose.

very confused by desperation to force dibling back into the team at expense of onachu. Dibling looked completely disinterested and really should have been hooked at ht, he was that poor.

curious was the manning miss as bad as it seemed in person, seemed like delayed and let keeper get back.

I was very annoyed by saints response to conceding, which largely consisted of passing the ball along the back line.

We beat Swansea 3-0 pretty easily.

Sheff Utd were terrible last season and they are the best of last season's relegated teams.

The Championship is shit, you could have the team picked by poll on SaintsWeb and we'd get top 6 very easily.

That’s on the manager. 4 full backs, no striker against the best defence in the league we’re about to drop into.

Doesn’t play his best players in their best positions, when your best chances fall to Ryan Manning then you’ve got a problem. Fucking rubbish

Not when the manager plays a 3 man defence and everyone man marks.

Luton haven’t found it so easy though. Sheff Utd also have a manager who has a lot of positive history as a manager and player there who knows that league.

If you think Smallbone is the answer what is the question when we leave 2 right backs and 2 left backs , Aribo was shocking yet played 90 we again had no outlet or focal point until TP then took off players that would get close to him.

Juric lost me today clueless tactics

Burnley may not be promoted and with a full side they will be better than our weakened side next season.

Looking at Birmingham tonight v Newcastle they have comparatively more to offer especially if they strengthen.

Even Pompey did better against Swansea and Burnley this season.

This tells a tale.

Hey guys just wanted to check in and see how things were going? I assume Southampton have forged a title challenge as predicted once RM left? I'm pleased to see the new manager has transformed things so brilliantly. Anyway guys RM is responsible for the team you have now but Juric is absolutely NOT responsible for the January window. That was the fault of Martin, Stephens and Jermaine Wright.

Record breaking season though xx

Fuck off Ivan with your shite formation.

I hate this fucking team.  Load of lazy cunts.  Even Smallbone couldn’t break into a sprint after being on the pitch for 5 minutes.  Cunts, the lot of them.

Other than Ramsdale, who will leave anyway, I’d happily see every member of our squad sold and the manager not renewed past his 6 months. Get rid of every single one of them.

Today isn’t quite Grimsby at home embarrassing, but to put in so little effort against a team from the league below is unforgivable.

I just want a manager that can look at a game and alter tactics rather than stick to what he is embedded to. We had Martin boring pass pass to nobody now we have 5 at the back against Ashley 98 year old Barnes-plus 2 midfielders slotting too.
today we needed 4 4 fcking  2 with someone close to TP and crossing to him but we had absolutely b/s tactics going nowhere and creating nothing .

Dibling was terrible!

Go down the pub with Guided Missile/John Misselbrook who also stomped off here with his nappy around his ankles. John can seriously drink so take plenty of money when it’s your round.

Actually better than I thought it would be - probably down to the 2.5k Burnley fans.
£10 adults and ‘kids for a quid’ would likely have seen a full house, and with it, all of the extra revenue from F&B sales. But that’s too obvious of course…

I happened to be ill today but was going to stay away anyway - my own little protest at the pricing. Plus I’ve seen enough shite football/defeats this season already.

Let’s hope they at least learn a lesson from this (though clearly didn’t post-Swansea) and start to consider the long-suffering fans a little more…
