The Kraken Posted January 20 Posted January 20 Yeh Derry is getting his apples and oranges mixed up. As for Dan Fox being good or great in the championship. Subjective innit. But he played for the team with the third best defensive record in the league, and he contributed 11 assists from full back which helped put us clear top in goals scored over the season. I don’t think you’ll find anyone who would disagree that his defending was not as good as his attacking. But, in that team and for what we needed, he was absolutely spot on. Very decent memories of him in the championship, but like Hooiveld he was very quickly exposed at Prem level and promptly jettisoned. 2

Yep completely agree he was decent in the championship and along with Frazer Richardson provided a lot of assists from full back as well as being part of a decent back 4. As for Shaw he didn't make his league debut until Adkins gave him it in the premier league at home to Swansea after Danny Fox had been given a chance but sadly proven himself not to be premier league level. Prior to his debut he's played a in a couple of cup games so remember everyone being a bit shocked he'd been thrown in. I'd not seen him play until that game but two things that stood out for me was that he was already built like a man at 17 and that he looked so much more assured, composed and better than Fox even then. I liked Fox though and my favourite memory of his was Pompey away when the the skates thought they were being hilarious by throwing the ball around the stands as he stood waiting to take a throw in, he just stared into the crowd completely unfazed giving them a look as much as to say "what a bunch of twats" 1
derry Posted January 20 Posted January 20 It's obvious I was taking it to after promotion2012/13 as both Saints and WBA were in the Premier League. It wasn't until Shaw was introduced at left back that we started to get a grip at the back. Fox then went on loan to Notts Forest.

Think he might have set up Lambert’s goal but can’t remember that for certain. 1

I just looked it up, 11 assists for Fox and 10 for Richardson just in the league. A total of 25 in all competitions . Thats like playing with two extra (really good) wingers. The chat was originally about Fox in championship. Pretty sure literally nobody thinks Fox was good enough to keep his place in the premier league.

Another player that was unable to bridge the Championship to Premier gap. I felt he wasn't a good defender but attackwise had a good left foot who was exposed after promotion.

That was a deflected goal. I’m pretty sure that Ugarte wasn’t trying to score himself. That goal goes into the record books as a goal for us. This modern method of calling them own goals when they are a deflected effort is ridiculous.
