As a close follower of NEC Nijmegen, I can honestly say that his recruitment has coincided with the massive downfall of Vitesse over the last few years, where a lot of the blame was pointed at him, outside of the licensing issues. This much to the joy of NEC 🥳. They were pretty much relegated last season even without the 18 point deduction. They sit bottom again with more points deducted, so it has muddied the water a little. 

Relegated from the Eredivisie last season, they now sit bottom of the Eerste, after another points deduction due to licensing issues. This blokes recruiting was not very good either, with their fans scratching their heads about some of the signings.

That isn't true. He left Vitesse a long time ago, in 2021. His last full season with them... they finished 4th! He left them before the winter transfer window of the next season, in which they came 6th after he left. So they were successful during his time there. To blame him for current issues is harsh.

Phew panic over.

Ok I'm still optimistic he's aligned with how we want to play so lets see what the summer brings.

Since he's the group director hasn't this taken over Mr Football's role, he will calling the shots on all things football rather than Rasmus (obviously Rasmus, dragan will have to approve his strategy, big decisions etc).

Joking aside, he’s really impressive.  No doubt if he does well other teams will be hovering around, like Tottenham Hotspors.

If there’s interest in him, it means Saints and SR are doing better, which can only be a good thing. Shields was a bit of an outlier, that seemed to be driven by the Lavia transfer, because the other imports from City were terrible (Bazanu), invisible (Larios) or at best average (Edozie).

He'll come in, advise on some good signings, we'll begin to improve and then he'll be poached by a bigger PL club. Thats the model isnt it? Be better to start identifying his replacement now

It's a start and I'm pleased Dragan immediately identified the need for someone in his position. From the limited info I have, it seems as if he is a Red Bull approach advocate - high press, high energy football - which ties in quite nicely with how Juric has traditionally approached football, so hopefully the right players are now being profiled.

The flip flopping of philosophies is driven by the lack of football leadership though, so if we can get that right we might be able to build something again. It's not going to happen overnight but it's certainly a step in the right direction. It feels like there is a bit of a plan again.

Why the club never replaced Wilcox ahead of our Summer transfer window will forever confuse me though.

The disaster for a long time was the result of not appointing a replacement and instead promoting from within. Hopefully we've learnt our lesson

Have wondered if Vitesse might fit in with the Sports Republic model. A club playing below its usual level with potential. ( Would fit the Rasmus ‘broken’ model).

Not saying this would necessarily be a good thing, and I’d rather they concentrate on getting us sorted, but can see mileage in it.

No, but you know this as a Saints fan surely. Not much to be positive about at the moment. At least we are on the same trajectory as Vitesse anyway. 👍

Is it though? Doesn’t this imply that saints business model is unsustainable. Where are Saints going? I have no idea of the real intended strategy. Successful we sell and fail and unsuccesful we fail. 
 

can’t score, can’t defend. Tippy tappy passes sideways and backwards. Desperate lunging into situation. No composure. Free kicks lumped in what on earth to they practice….awful transfers no idea whether any of these players can play poor structure in a game and poor selection and poor in game management. 
 

the championship will be another example of how bad we are. 
 

apart from this I am very excited by the future for saints…

It is huge, when you consider the disaffected players because their boyfriend was sacked, KWP OOC, Larios and Stewart to be settled with/retired, some players that look miles off any standard with a 17-year olds frame (Smallbone) and loanees who might not want to return to a basket case (AA, Charles, BBD, Edozie, Edwards).

Then there’s the income generation - Ramsdale, Dibling, THB, probably Fernandes.

Goztepe-based players - will some of those be joining as effective new signings from SR’s best-performing club?

And that’s before he actually evaluates who is good enough.

what do you classify as a short term success?
 

the last few years have been like a pin ball machine bouncing from one thing to another. Major change requires a clear direction and 1 upward blip on a long decline makes little difference 
 

I think failure is built into the business model based on what we can see. Solak talks about long term success. Their ability to implement is very low and certainly showing no signs of improving. Most transfers are mediocre for most clubs. Somehow it’s envisioned that we will suddenly go from abject failure to to success. How does short term success and then a round of probable failure help us?

An interesting thing to come out of one of the interviews posted is a reference to an assistant and someone he’s worked closely with, Marcel Klos.

Quick google of him and does appear to have followed Spors around in his appointments. So, perhaps another name to watch out for in the recruitment team.

Surprised Rasmus was there given we’re often told he isn’t involved at SFC. 
 

Shame he couldn’t have found something more suitable to do on a Saturday afternoon at Goztepe, or putting up a shelf at home.

We already have multiple prolific strikers at Championship level. Brereton Diaz, Armstrong, Archer plus Stewart (was in a small sample), and I think Onuachu would also be prolific at that level. We do not know for certain what the future is with any of them. Even with Armstrong and Brereton Diaz (with an option to buy) currently loaned out, they may still return for us. Plus our manager has the opportunity to have a loan at Juan Santos da Silva when he returns in the summer and see if he might be an option we could use.

Although I like Armstrong for the Championship the list you set out wouldn’t get me rushing to renew a season ticket with any great expectation
