Such a good performance, night and day compared to a few matches ago and the players look fitter and faster, challenging hard, chasing down, loved it.  Gutted we couldn't hold on for a draw, but that performance was so much better.

But I enjoyed that, for once this season. I enjoyed it, despite the defeat. Everything we've been missing was there.

Just emphasises the folly of sticking with Martin as long as we did.

Of all the substitutions available I must admit that putting on Smallbone to play something that might be considered to be a false 9 was not in my playbook. From that moment on it was one way traffic.

When will we stop playing out from the back!!! How many goals have we gifted with that this season?

We did this brilliantly tonight and it really contributed to how well we played IMO. Much more purpose to it.

Yes third goal was a big error but it was gone by then anyway.

Given the whole bench is mediocre, the alternative was to run the starting 11 into the ground, and Juric would've then been criticised for not taking off tired players soon enough...

Yep everyone saying manager fucked it but his bench is so poor. We lost all our physicality on midfield when Fernandes and Aribo went off. You can blame the m manager for the subs but £250m and we’ve only got about 6 decent players

Because he is really crap???

When Armstrong came on my heart sank. I didn't hear his name mentioned from then to the final whistle. Therein lies the reason, coupled with playing out from the back which we made another balls up with tonight, for the reason we are where we are.

Just look at the fixture list, where are the points coming from to get us to 12?

It's all well and good thinking 'if we play like we did tonight, we'll be alright', but the confidence is just going to drain and drain.

Smallbone is just ok for a team passing around slowly with little purpose like Russell fucking Martin wanted

In a team trying to play quick attacking, high press football he is utter useless and most know it and now hopefully Juric does too

Stoke loved Smallbone the season before. Honestly, you need to move on.

Armstrong was the 2nd top scorer in the league with 24 goals. Why would you let that go ahead of another Championship season a mere year later?

Nice try. I was talking about Smallbone.

Gutted. The first half performance was excellent. The quality of our substitutions made us weaker and the end result seems like an injustice. Oh what fun to be a Saints fan.

Some harsh comments on here tonight mostly probably derived from the disappointment of having a possible 3 points snatched from us in the final 10 minutes. Come on, let's give some credit to the performance which for most of the game was very good and we deserved something out of it. There were some good signs that Ivan is getting to grips and considering he's been here a few weeks and inherited an extremely unfit squad I think he earns credit. We looked like a football team where everyone knew their jobs and it's a while since that's been the case. Our subs weakened us whereas Utd's generally made them better. Much to be encouraged about tonight and I got the performance but not the result as expected. Not convinced we shouldn't have been given a penalty when Sulemana's shot was blocked and reckon VAR would have given it if it was a Utd player having a shot blocked at the Stretford End. Great effort for no reward but more than enough to show that Ivan knows what he's doing.

Oh bloody hell. One of Starmers little cancel culture clowns are we?

It's just not nice my friend. Many of us on here will have been affected by and lost loved ones to cancer, so perhaps it jars a bit. That's as polite as I can be.

We didn't... that has been the problem! I'm suggesting what we should do next time we get a promotion! We don't need to shift players like Arsmrong now. They are good enough to do very well in the Championship next season. He scored 24 league goals! What we should do is shift them after the promotion!

Martin was too loyal to some of the players from last season, Smallbone, Stephens, Armstrong and Fraser in particular.

Even Amorim acknowledged that we tired in the last 20 and had to take our best players off.

Hope they're back in tomorrow morning to do the bleep test. Fat cunts

Martin Out!

Seriously tho', that defeat was primarily down to our horrendously unfit squad which is all RM; it's an open secret that we have trained all season, pre-season and last season in a way that is not rigorous enough for "top level athletes". It was showing a year ago, and it's shown all season.

Will we have a team, a squad, capable of lasting ninety, a hundred, 100+, minutes next year? And competing? Let's hope so.

Everton and Leicester and some random win.

Oh fuck me, follow the thread. Unless Russell Martin was managing Stoke your point is worth the same number of points we left Old Trafford with.

Sell him to stoke then, remind me how stoke did that season?

He isn’t good enough for quick football and you know it.
Hopefully that twat you love gets a job soon and he can have him.

Absolutely cracks me up that any fan really thought we would have enough to win tonight.

Weak mentally and Weak physically, doesn’t bode well when other teams are technically better

I agree he is our best finisher and there's a role for him to play. A front 3 of sulemana, Dibling and Fernandes looked really positive tonight though, so I don't know where you fit Archer in.

I guess that's a good problem for Juric but my feeling is Archer was the better option to bring on after the Dibling injury than Smallbone. I think Archer could thrive in a similar way Sulemana seems to be.

Yeah, I know it’s only a game and all that but this season is really, really getting to me. I never EVER thought I’d be relieved to see my team reach 12 points. I will be if we do. Massively.

Some on here earlier wanted a decent performance. I think they got that for the most part. Onwards.

Agreed. Can't moan at the performance when we had our best players on the pitch. In that sense Juric has definitely improved us, even if the results don't show it.

He now needs to show that he won't make the same mistakes again. I.e bringing on players like Smallbone and Armstrong when you're trying to defend a lead (or bringing them on at all for that matter)

I didn't say Smallbone should be a first choice starter. But he is fine as squad filler for a promotion chasing Championship team. The issue is once promotion is achieved he needs to be upgraded and we didn't do that this time.

As should Armstrong, I don't care if he scores 50 goals in the championship next season he's a proven non-entity in the Prem.

Juric has had to improve poor levels of fitness and that takes a bit of time. Too soon to get a result for this game but signs are good. On the subject of Armstrong we shouldn't be having a debate. He should have been told in the summer 'thanks for helping us get promoted but you're not good enough for the PL so we're selling you.' Ridiculous that he's still here.

Fitness lacking still. Physically and mentally unable to last 100 minutes. Getting there but getting over Martin's bad influence is going to take more time yet.

We played well, but we must do it again on Sunday...and hopefully get a result. It can't be a one off. Forest are flying. It will be incredibly tough.

So as per Liverpool, Leicester and the home game against United; we played well enough for parts of it but didn’t take our chances and when it came to crunch time and we needed to keep it tight, we conceded three goals.

I would also add Armstrong scored those goals in the russball system, can he do it in the juric formation.

Not in the Premier League he didn’t and nor would he again in the Championship.
