Sulenana played well first half. Problem is Premier league defenders don't fall for his twisty turny trucks. Nevertheless he put in a proper shift, tracking back and everything. Good to see. Judging by the way he came off I suspect that's his last game for Saints. Seemed to be quite a few goodbyes going on. Pretty standard for the rest. Tyler's bored teenager act is starting to grate a bit, but the lad has an uncanny knack of turning any player anytime he wants. Big bucks coming in for him. Fernandes was the pick for me, he looks a top grade Premier league player. They'll be a fight for him as well. Fernandes is our best player pretty much every time he plays. People will be talking about Dibling but Fernandes is a more rounded player (he is a couple of years older tbf) 29
Forester Posted Sunday at 20:16 Posted Sunday at 20:16 Enjoyed that, glad I went and sad that so many didn’t get to see a rare win. And given the draw we have a decent chance of being in the last 16, so let’s give the cup a real go. I thought our best performances were Bree, Aribo, Big Les, Fernandes and Kamaldeen. More generally it is obvious that Juric is trying to get us much more front foot and pressing opponents all over the pitch, along with getting the ball forward. Both get the thumbs up from me. Sadly I think we are doomed, but a positive use of the remaining months of the season for me would be developing the style of play, which is a huge adjustment from Martin, starting to perform more effectively with some results coming in and feeling in good shape heading into the championship without another managerial change and all that comes with it. And a cup run would make it even better. 6

Mixedkebab Posted Sunday at 20:36 Posted Sunday at 20:36 (edited) At least the team looked interested and up for it which is a good sign under Ivan Only players I’d be arsed about keeping for the championship are Ramsdale and KWP (unlikely) Fernandes and Dibling. Potentially other useful ones in that division Armstrong, Downes, Bree, Wood, Bednarek, Taylor, THB, Lesley Maybe Sulemana will finally start to show something otherwise he can go along with all the other crap Edited Sunday at 20:39 by Mixedkebab

spyinthesky Posted Sunday at 21:02 Posted Sunday at 21:02 I have always thought that KWP could improve our midfield by playing in front of a right back and thought he did very well in that position. We will miss him when he moves on. Thought Fernandes was our best player by some distance and another who wont be with us next season 8
chivvy Posted Sunday at 21:08 Posted Sunday at 21:08 Think we saw juric will always be a 3 at the back formation..

Both get the thumbs up from me. Got to say that the difference in style and tactics isn't terribly obvious to me. Our press is just as easy to play through. I don't see us getting particularly tight or putting defenders under much pressure. Perhaps we did today, but Swansea reserve defenders just are not good enough to play it out from the back. I see our keeper going long a bit more often, a few less triangle passes to try to work the ball out and retain possession and in the West Ham game we crossed the ball first time, but other than that? It's early days, so I am not moaning here, but I doubt there are not many that watched the Brentford game that are going to agree that we have improved a great deal. 3
S-Clarke Posted Sunday at 21:39 Posted Sunday at 21:39 It's certainly nice to see a win for a change, a very rare event. It's hard to read much into it though, we were playing against a L1 standard team really what with the players Swansea were missing - but you still have to turn up, and we did. It was a very comfortable and straight forward win. I find it hard to get too excited though based on what we've had to endure the past 5 months. Not worth getting too carried away with details or individuals as it was such a low standard of opposition. 5

DT Posted Sunday at 21:58 Posted Sunday at 21:58 Thought Fernandez was brilliant tonight. And Lesley. How Dibling got MoM is beyond me. Great to see Saints win again though. Even enjoyed the fan zone thing. And Sulemana actually looked ok. What a good day. Predicted 3-0 but didn’t put a bet on. Damn. 4
davefizzy14 Posted Sunday at 22:59 Posted Sunday at 22:59 It was great to get a comfortable win, a cleansheet and get into the fourth round 😊 (another home draw). Liked the pressing style of play that Jurić has brought. Sulemana was really good, with his lightning pace and the lobbed finish was class 😊 Dibling was class with two neat finishes 😊 I thought Fernandes and KWP were excellent too. Ramsdale too with a fantastic stop in the second half. COYR 😊 2

All three fast, tricky and good on the ball. At last an really exciting strike force when fully developed to frighten any defence in the country. 1 1

ChristopheVAFC Posted Monday at 09:01 Posted Monday at 09:01 Hello friends, I hope you're well. I followed your team's score yesterday and I'm pleased that you won yesterday at Saint Mary's and in style. I hope that this victory will help the team to regain confidence and start building positive momentum for the future. It's going to be a long road and it's going to take time, but I hope that things will get better for you very soon. Have a great week, my friends. 14
suewhistle Posted Monday at 09:36 Posted Monday at 09:36 I take some positivity from the fact that a few mistakes apart that was a comfortable victory and we know how that is not a foregone conclusion for us against lower league sides. To what do we ascribe Sulemanna's improved performance: the opposition, our formation, his instructions, his motivation (playing for a move..)?

John Boy Saint Posted Monday at 10:06 Posted Monday at 10:06 Considering how fragile we have appeared this season, good to see we set out to win with an honest line up. We are in the next round and didn’t suffer like Brentford at the hands of Plymouth to dent moral further. Shame they have ruined the format of the cup just for the big boys - Tamworth were deserving of a replay pay day v Spurs. 5

To what do we ascribe Sulemanna's improved performance: the opposition, our formation, his instructions, his motivation (playing for a move..)? Agree. He was playing against L1 standard defenders was the main reason. The second ( imo) is he was being watched by scouts ( from Genoa apparently) because I don’t think he will be up for playing Championship football with Saints next year - everything about him and the situation he’s been in shouts he will want to be sold before he ever gets picked to play for us in the Championship. I think Juric will certainly make the case to SR that KS is a potential difference maker up front that may be our salvation - and SR might agree on the basis that if he gets a handful of goals at EPL it won’t do his resale value any harm - so unless it’s a very meaty offer in the Jan window ( over £15m nearer £20m id say) I think he will be playing a lot more for Saints between now and end of season - if he’s not sold. What won’t happen is that he won’t even make match day squad anymore- which I always thought was crazy given our best tricky winger got sent away start of season ( Sam E). 2

The one time the SR scouting has unearthed an actual gem, for a bargain price, he's only 20, and we look likely to have him for a single season - kid's definitely going places, looks a class above the rest of the squad every time I see him play. Fingers crossed SR hold him to his contract, as he'll destroy the Champ 2

Even at a Lavia type price he'd be an absolute bargain for a top club as he's been battle tested in the worst possible environment and he's never given up, never shirked the hard yards, they know exactly what they'll get from him and he's still young and could improve more. And he seems to be really tough and not injury prone too. 3
