St Landrew Posted 29 January, 2009 Posted 29 January, 2009 Just picked this up on the other Skacel thread. But I've provided the link: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/s/southampton/7858760.stm Shame. I liked Skacel, and I kind of understand why he wants to go.

Scummer Posted 29 January, 2009 Posted 29 January, 2009 "If anybody is not 100% committed to the club, then I don't want them to play for us." Yeah, because it's not like we've been trying to force him out or anything is it.............
Whitey Grandad Posted 29 January, 2009 Posted 29 January, 2009 In any other business it would be called 'consructive dismissal'. Yet another example of poor management skills resulting in an underused talent.
St.Thomas7 Posted 29 January, 2009 Posted 29 January, 2009 Fair enough really. It's a shame cos I feel Rudi never really lived up to his hype here, we did see glimmers of it here and there but was distinctly average IMO. (Although to be fair that is better than most of the suad of the last two seasons!) It didn't really help that I don't think he was ever really used properly and would of loved to have seen him in the hole behind the forwards. And it did give us a great deal of fun with the whole "Has he signed yet?" game on here!! All the best Rudi, shame it didn't work out... lets hope we get a nice bit of coin for him! (And could we finally have someone worthwhile fill the No7 shirt please??)
Saint Martini Posted 29 January, 2009 Posted 29 January, 2009 Not really surprising really and one of the senior/big earners player that I'm not that fussed about if he should leave. I guess that also means the Holmes injury isn't that bad? I guess it safe to say that he never really lived up to the hype.
glkdcdes Posted 29 January, 2009 Posted 29 January, 2009 disingenuous comment about players leaving if they dont want to plays for us. He along with other senior players have hardly been made welcome by the new regime. Weak comment Mr Wotte at the wrong time.
JustMike Posted 29 January, 2009 Posted 29 January, 2009 yes, i liked him too. Still if the move puts a few more coins into the pot and reduces the wage bill further im sure Lowe will be smiling at least
Saint_clark Posted 29 January, 2009 Posted 29 January, 2009 Yeah, because it's not like we've been trying to force him out or anything is it............. Come on, he hasn't given anything near his all during the matches he's played.
Big_Bald_Si Posted 29 January, 2009 Posted 29 January, 2009 disingenuous comment about players leaving if they dont want to plays for us. He along with other senior players have hardly been made welcome by the new regime. Weak comment Mr Wotte at the wrong time. I disagree - one of the first things he said was that we need experience to get out of this rut we're in. Jason Euell was included in his first squad, whereas he'd missed out the past few squads under Jan. I think its a strong comment - at least we'll have people on the field that wish to play for us - which is exactly what we need right now.
hypochondriac Posted 29 January, 2009 Posted 29 January, 2009 Boo. We treated him terribly. I have a lot of sympathy for the lad.
corky morris Posted 29 January, 2009 Posted 29 January, 2009 Come on, he hasn't given anything near his all during the matches he's played. You obviously were not at Burnley then!
JohnnyFartPants Posted 29 January, 2009 Posted 29 January, 2009 First Skacel and now Rudi. Where will this end?
chocco boxo Posted 29 January, 2009 Posted 29 January, 2009 He never really took off. Was there not a centre forward called Rudi? Years ago?
Master Bates Posted 29 January, 2009 Posted 29 January, 2009 First Skacel and now Rudi. Where will this end? Rudolf?
OldNick Posted 29 January, 2009 Posted 29 January, 2009 He has never lived up to the hopes we had.He played ok but was rarely head and shouldes above an average player for us.I was always doubtful that his heart was with us after his transfer took so long.To me he was stalling for a better offer and when it didnt come he reluctantly signed here.
slickmick Posted 29 January, 2009 Posted 29 January, 2009 Shame, but if we get a good fee and a high earner off the books it should help stave off admin.
a1ex2001 Posted 29 January, 2009 Posted 29 January, 2009 Come on, he hasn't given anything near his all during the matches he's played. I disagree, I was at Sheffield Utd for his first game back in the side this season and while he was clearly not match fit he gave his all for the cause and I can't remember ever thinking he wasn't commited to the club when he was on the pitch. He's been treated badly by the club from day one with that ridiculous signing on the pitch thing the his beloved Burley used him poorley and seeing him wasted at left back for the last season and a half has been a crying shame. Good Luck Rudi, shame it dodn't work out for you.
Saint_clark Posted 29 January, 2009 Posted 29 January, 2009 You obviously were not at Burnley then! No, but I have been at every home game this season, and not once have I seen him look interested.
Colinjb Posted 29 January, 2009 Posted 29 January, 2009 He was on a hiding to nothing from the word go, he was never going to live up to the hype, regardless of how much effort he was seen to put in. I just hope we get a respectable fee for him. And its another 40k a month off the books.
Alanh Posted 29 January, 2009 Posted 29 January, 2009 In any other business it would be called 'constructive dismissal'. Yet another example of poor management skills resulting in an underused talent. Seeing as he was loaned out this time last year and was trying to sort out a move to Ipswich in the summer I'd say that it's been on the cards that he would be moving on for a while. We all know the reason he needs to leave - we need to save his wages. In the regular world freezing someone out Rudi has been might amount to constructive dismissal, but this is football and the rules are completely different.
Scudamore Posted 29 January, 2009 Posted 29 January, 2009 Seeing as he was loaned out this time last year and was trying to sort out a move to Ipswich in the summer I'd say that it's been on the cards that he would be moving on for a while. Could this be the move that sees one of our targets coming in i wonder? Or are we looking at a couple out first?
labibs Posted 29 January, 2009 Posted 29 January, 2009 He never really took off. Was there not a centre forward called Rudi? Years ago? Think there was a Peter (Petr?) Rudi, that played for Sheffield Wednesday when they were in the prem. Not surprised by Skacel leaving. Big wages and we have others who can cover his position (although arguably not as well). Couple that with having to now pay saga's wages and it makes sense. Hope he doesn't go on a free transfer though
Alanh Posted 29 January, 2009 Posted 29 January, 2009 Could this be the move that sees one of our targets coming in i wonder? Or are we looking at a couple out first? No idea. JP said he thought one would leave before the end of the month and my guess is that RS is the one. We'll probably only loan in someone, with a view to buying if they perform and we stay up. I guess if Wotte wants another player he's probably got a budget to work to already and RS leaving just helps save getting on for £600K a year from the salary bill.
Andy_Porter Posted 29 January, 2009 Posted 29 January, 2009 Great timing with Holmes getting injured again. Looks like we will be seeing a lot of Smith and Molyneux.
stevegrant Posted 29 January, 2009 Posted 29 January, 2009 Think there was a Peter (Petr?) Rudi, that played for Sheffield Wednesday when they were in the prem. I remember we were linked with him before Wednesday bought him, he was dubbed the new Ronnie Ekelund (except Norwegian rather than Danish) at the time and people suggested we'd really missed out on something special. Turns out he was rubbish.

In the regular world freezing someone out Rudi has been might amount to constructive dismissal, but this is football and the rules are completely different. I agree. It's just that we seem to keep on buying expensive talents and then treat them like workhorses. All the while that these players are on the books they are depreciating assets. Just imagine what sort of a team we could have had with Skacel, Rrasiak, John, Saganowski regularly available. We need the 'big' names to bring in the home crowds and win games. Who's going to pay to watch Molyneux? We have budgeted for failure and that is what we shall achieve. 'He who thinks he can and he who thinks he can't are both right'
ozzmeister Posted 29 January, 2009 Posted 29 January, 2009 so do u think we will gewt any kind of fee, or will he just go on a free to reduce the wage bill. All in all I dont think he's a huge loss, he had potential and quality but couldnt fit into this side (much like Anders in some ways). You dont change the whole team to compensate for one player, the team is more important.
fish fingers Posted 29 January, 2009 Posted 29 January, 2009 I wonder if he'll sign on the pitch at his next club.
redorwhitelion Posted 29 January, 2009 Posted 29 January, 2009 Can't fault his performances at LB when I've seen him this season. Seemed to be putting his all in when called upon and very professional. Can't blame him for wanting to get out either and I don't see why Saints would do anything other than wish him all the best. Shame it didn't work out the way we all hoped, but I think Rudi deserves a little respect, I don't remember him ever bad-mouthing the club or the supporters.
St Landrew Posted 29 January, 2009 Author Posted 29 January, 2009 First Skacel and now Rudi. Where will this end? Sorry to be pedantic old chap, but just like his name, first it was the Rudi thread, then came the Skacel one. I was too busy to delete either, at the time. Perhaps I'll get around to merging them. Haven't done a merge threads in ages.
NickG Posted 29 January, 2009 Posted 29 January, 2009 the bit on there, and radio about him wanting medical etc -is that now or in the summer?
Window Cleaner Posted 29 January, 2009 Posted 29 January, 2009 Just picked this up on the other Skacel thread. But I've provided the link: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/s/southampton/7858760.stm Shame. I liked Skacel, and I kind of understand why he wants to go. Told you so !!
cellone Posted 29 January, 2009 Posted 29 January, 2009 I think fair play and good luck to him. I'm extremely dissapointed to never have seen Rudi used for the reason he came e.g playing as a 1st choice attacking midfield player. He will probably be one of last few signings of note we will see for a while.
alpine_saint Posted 29 January, 2009 Posted 29 January, 2009 Hounded out of the club, basically. I hope he has documented it all and sues the f**k out of the club. And the comment from Wotte sounds uncannily like many from Lowe over the years.

(And could we finally have someone worthwhile fill the No7 shirt please??) As I mentioned in another thread, I firmly believe that Rudi and his skills have never been fully, or correctly, implemented. Of course that will give the impression that he neither fitted in or put himself out. All rather sad really and an immense waste of money. Indicative of the malaise which has affected this club for far too long.
bmthred Posted 29 January, 2009 Posted 29 January, 2009 what naive posts. by getting him to put in a transfer request we potentially save money on bonus payments and any add ons in his contract. I bet he has had a deal lined up for ages and the club are holding out for every penny they can, and therefore not giving the manager enough time to bring in a replacement. now where does that sound familiar from?
Nexstar Posted 29 January, 2009 Posted 29 January, 2009 Good thing IMO, never really saw him as a great player and he must be quite a strain on our wage bill.
TopGun Posted 29 January, 2009 Posted 29 January, 2009 (edited) IMO Rudi has never come across as committed. I understand that he has had difficult times but so have the rest. He has shown no backbone or fibre. I might call him McCann for the end product. Bye bye Rudi. Edited 29 January, 2009 by TopGun

We won't actually get any money for him, doubt if they have more than a couple of bent drachmas down at CSBJKX Famagusta or whatever it is.

Not sure which posts you are referring to, but I agree that it's a good thing that we can get him to put in a transfer request so that we don't have to pay up his contract. Also, I hope the club are holding out for every penny as we sure need the cash right now.The replacements are already here in the form of Molyneux and Holmes so no problems with the timing of his departure.
Bailey Posted 29 January, 2009 Posted 29 January, 2009 No surprises really. In fairness to Rudi, he got his head down and did a good job for us at LB earlier on in the season. Credit to him for that. Since he's been at Southampton, he's been treated terribly and the only thing that does surprise me is the fact he's been here this long! If we can get a decent transfer fee for him then it's a good move for all concerned. I wish him all the best wherever he ends up.
Deanovski Posted 29 January, 2009 Posted 29 January, 2009 lol treated badly yeahhh, leaving cos of wanting to go int he euros? being a fan fav turnning back on the club, bye rudi Fu

And the comment from Wotte sounds uncannily like many from Lowe over the years. Are you for real???? Is there anything else bad you want to happen to our club while your at it? I dont like the way allot of our players/staff/fans have been treated but I still dont want more sh1te to happen to the club. Good luck Rudi where ever you go
Fan The Flames Posted 29 January, 2009 Posted 29 January, 2009 Its a shame. How much of the fee will Wotte TF get to bring in a replacement.
