I am certainly not expecting Dibling to do what Salah does, but he should have done better. Hit the target or even just got near the target. My point really was that we seriously lack quality in the final third. Even with a good performance and chances created, we still lose and we will continue to do so without talent up front and out wide. Dibling has been brilliant to watch. It's fantastic to have a talent come through once again, but we need goals this season, so if he can't be expected to deliver them, someone else must. Its going to his head. His mind seems to have been scrambled by his agent. He should have set up TP for a tap in. He is greedy and doesn't seem to look for players in a better position. Great potential, but if we could get a good fee for him January and sign a more proven PL player then I would sell. Afterall he wont be here after the summer and so why not get the money in to invest to try and help us now 5

Even so ...Dibling didn't look that fresh at the end. Mentally tired / stressed ? We have lacked a good finisher in the final third ever since Danny Ings left the club. Dibling. Great to watch Agreed, but in 12 starts and half a dozen sub. apps. he's still only scored once. Can't disagree with the goal drought comment, but Dibling was not a big goal scorer even at Academy level, but he does look impressive going forward. I think we've been awaiting that " someone " for several years past. We have until the end of January to see if Onuachu can really deliver, regardless of which we still need a few more established talents who know how to finish properly if we are to stand any chance of survival. 1

I wonder if off field stuff really effects players once they cross the white line? I thought he should shoot. Don't blame him at all. It's easy to spot a pass from the stand. I want to see him in a Saints shirt for as long as possible. He is brilliant to watch. It's been a horrific season, and he has been the only bright spark. We are going down. No signing will change that. 2

coalman Posted 28 December, 2024 Author Posted 28 December, 2024 At Fulham we were hard(er) to score against and didn't create much. Against West Ham we made more chances than we have in ages but couldn't put them away and didn't give away easy chances. Hoping to continue this progression as IJ gets to grips with things. 3

Come the summer the vultures will be around possibly. If he can continue to do it in the second half of the season that won't hurt his value. The short length of his contract is a massive concern. He holds all the cards.

I really enjoyed our performance yesterday, just dissapointing about the result. Lots to take into the next game on Sunday where hopefully we can get a result. The standouts for me were Onuachu, KWP and Ugochukwu who were all outstanding 😊 I thought we deserved to get something out of the game after a shaky start but we still look like a Championship side out of our depth. West Ham aren’t great but have the Prem nous to see us off, as most Prem teams have done this season, no matter what our tactics. Martin’s tactics certainly did not help, but it is all about recruitment and we just haven’t brought in the quality to compete week in week out at this level. Having said that, we should have enough about us to cause plenty of problems in the Championship next season. How angry did Tall Paul look when Dibling choose to shoot rather than square it to him in a better position? Edited 28 December, 2024 by sadoldgit 1

And in the previous game when one was squared to Tall Paul, he completely fluffed it. Yes, to an extent, we look a side out of our depth, but I'm so pissed off we SR that we haven't given this year a better chance. RM should have gone after the Bournemouth game and yet it really did look like it wasn't until half way through the Tottenham game that it dawned on management that RM had to go and their phones were out calling for a new manager. Since RM has gone, the team is playing more entertaining football, we have created chances and, on another day, we would have had this game sewn up by half time. 1

So he blazed the ball over the bar instead. Yes, it was a proper game of football at last. 1
suewhistle Posted 28 December, 2024 Posted 28 December, 2024 It was certainly an easier watch on Thursday and I didn't spend the whole game on tenterhooks waiting for an abject mistake as we passed it around the back trying to improve our possession stats.. Somebody else will no doubt correct me if necessary (probably rudely and with inordinate pleasure) but my impression was that we had more chances than the last half dozen games put together? It's a shame about Dibling putting his chance over but I've seen vastly more experienced strikers do worse in the same position. As for TP's chances, let's hope some more match practice and getting his first goal will ease the tensions. To be honest he seems better with his chest than his head, but the additional dimension he bought to our play really helped. We were in that game all the way, and although I think like most that we're down at least I have more hopes for the season than I did under RM. 3

Polite reply Sue Whistle ....not quite correct (mathematically-speaking), but in the last 10 games of Russell Martin's reign we managed to get double figs. for shots - on only two occasions - and that in a season when we have more strikers on the books than ever before (?) ..we have seldom scored less. In comparison, ( in those same matches ) our opponents had a minimum of 16 shots (on average), and in several cases... more than 20. The more adventurous style we saw v. W. Ham was entertaining to watch, with 18 shots ...(pity about the result.) 1
