My only motivation is to look after our main talent. I just don't want him kicked out out of the game. Keep the opposition guessing I guess. However your point on lack of alternatives is a good one. Armstrong is KWP I guess but neither prospect is particularly strong. 1

Had exactly the same issue myself once. 1
Lord Duckhunter Posted 26 December, 2024 Posted 26 December, 2024 My son in law plays in the national league and they trained Xmas morning so for Martin to give the players the day off is beyond belief. That on it’s own should put potential employers off, before you factor in all the other bullshit that comes with him. Clearly it’s going to take Ivan a few weeks to get this lot battle hardened and fully premier league fit, but let’s see some aggression and positivity today. Hopefully we can pinch a result. 8
BARCELONASAINT Posted 26 December, 2024 Posted 26 December, 2024 Not expecting any Christmas miracles today. It will take the new guy a few weeks (which we don't have) to get the players proper match fit for his brand of football. I am at least encouraged enough by our efforts in the last game that i will watch this afternoon to see what differences there are. Think Wet Spam will be too strong for us unfortunately.

Russell Martin was a flipping clown. So reading comments, if I understand correctly, he gave the players 2 days off after a game? So basically, he'd have to remind the players of fuckups when they rolled in 2 days later by which point they've completely fucking forgotton, and repeat the exact same errors the very next game. Genius that. So a game on sunday, meant the players would return on Wednesday...then 2 days later a game on Saturday? I must have that completely wrong because that is batshit to me. If true, our current situation is on SportsRepublic for allowing that kind of tenure. Good grief. I'm not sure if I remembered this wrong, but didn't Martin bang on about "doing the work" for ages (around about the same time he was going on about scar tissue)? In which case what on earth was he prattling on about? 2 days off after a game is a fucking disgrace - no wonder our weak minded players loved him... 2
OneMrsWallace Posted 26 December, 2024 Posted 26 December, 2024 Travelling from Devon with my son for this one. Feeling a little more optimistic for at least a performance/fight, if not a result. Pleased to hear they trained yesterday, it's not like they've had to travel far today.

davefizzy14 Posted 26 December, 2024 Posted 26 December, 2024 Really looking forward to this today, a Boxing Day game at home 😊 hopefully a win in Ivan Jurić's first game in charge. I'm feeling positive - 2-0 to us - Onuachu and Dibling scoring 😊 COYR 😊 2

ChristopheVAFC Posted 26 December, 2024 Posted 26 December, 2024 I hope you enjoy the match, Saint's supporters! I'll be watching the game here from France, hoping for the 1st victory of your new manager, Ivan Jurić. My thoughts are with you my friends! COME ON YOU SAINTS ! 🔴⚪ 8
Cabrone Posted 26 December, 2024 Posted 26 December, 2024 Right now I want to see gritty determination to compete so If they give it their all I'll be happy regardless of the result. Who knows - they may even win.....
Galway saint Posted 26 December, 2024 Posted 26 December, 2024 Think it’s too early in his tenure for a win or even a goal but I think we will show more positive intent than in the Fulham game and have 4 shots with 2 of those on target. In the continuous absence of Stewart(lets hope he’s back for pre-season), am hoping to see Armstrong up front and on his own with no one near him providing support

benjii Posted 26 December, 2024 Posted 26 December, 2024 Interested to see how the central midfield is set up. Martin always had a weird shape in midfield and we frequently got caught with all midfielders the wrong side of the ball. 1
suewhistle Posted 26 December, 2024 Posted 26 December, 2024 Just let's hope that we take the game to them a bit, they get a few yellow cards and then we bring on Dibling, Archer and Sulemanna to run at them..

Turkish Posted 26 December, 2024 Posted 26 December, 2024 As good a team as we could put out I guess, although I’d have gone for Archer over Armstrong, much better finisher. Glad Dibbing been taken out for a bit he’s not looked as good last few games but still decent off the bench
Totton Saint Posted 26 December, 2024 Posted 26 December, 2024 I see a prudent move having Dibling sat on the bench for when he is needed.
Saint_clark Posted 26 December, 2024 Posted 26 December, 2024 Just now, Totton Saint said: I see a prudent move having Dibling sat on the bench for when he is needed. I see a young player having been used in every game over the Christmas period and needing a break. But honestly...if we can sell him in January for 10-15million more than we'll get in the summer I'd probably take it. He won't sign a new contract so we know he's going, we could get enough to fund two players that make a real difference second half of the season. 1
