On the face of it this is a decent appointment. This guys strengths appear to cover our most evident weaknesses over the season to date. He has top flight experience and although his stock has fallen post Roma, there were mitigating circumstances and perhaps that is why he’s now interested having seemingly rejected us in 2022.

Some pundits have questioned this direction as a move away from possession football but it’s a clear change to a style that could have us punching above our weight rather than self destructing and only looking good in the middle third of the pitch.

Remains to be seen what our squad is capable of and if it can play this style effectively having been built for possession football in the last few windows but my expectation is that we will get more points playing this way (not a high bar). Relegation is all but confirmed but let’s give the remaining games a good go and see if we can build some positive momentum.

Whoever came in it was going to be a huge risk for them - less so Saints as the expectation is relegation from most bystanders and supporters. For that I think he should be thanked and given as much support as possible by the club and supporters alike. Priority for any Jan spend (if indeed money is available), MUST be to offload deadwood and buy a decent striker - not 3-4 squad fillers. Good luck annd welcome Ivan - hopefully you will lift the club above the Derby record low points at the very least and restore a little pride to our club.

Proofs in the pudding of course, but he seems to be something different to the previous incumbent.

By the sound of it We are going to see more athletic work horses featuring in his teams.

He will need a midfield grafter ASAP to support Downes. That has to be priority one.

Heard his football described as shit housery 101 which will make a fantastic change from martins nice team to play for every other club philosophy.. he’s managed at higher level then a lot of the others we where linked with and had most of his clubs punching above their weight ., I think the Roma job was never gonna work out as they had just sacked club legend de Rossi and juric was never accepted ..

all in all though I think this looks like it could be a shrewd move and better then expected .. happy with this

Please don't take this a criticism David, as I enjoy reading your posts, but one thing has been bugging me down the years and I can't hold back my curiosity any longer...!

Why do you often have a line-break / carriage-return mid paragraph...? (for a simpleton like me, it makes it less easy to read 😁)

Cheers! 👍🍻

Oh Trousers.  Sorry if... "the spacing".. is troubling you . I'm not overly fond of underlining which (to me ) looks/feels like  a shout, or  an order.

I like to think of it / them as a breath, or pause for thought instead.  I was amused to read a while ago, that some well-known recipients of the

Nobel Prize for Literature mistreated the English language  and use of grammar to an extreme, but it was the content of their work that was most

interesting - irrespective of misuse. Occasionally  I get a comment from an angry Grammarian, but at least my spelling is reasonably acceptable.

b.t.w.  I quite enjoy many of your posts, compared to some others who show less respect.

Well... I would argue we even failed at that... (thankfully)

We bought more BBD's than Lallanas over the last few windows 😄

For teams like us, I think the most important attribute for a manager is their ability to make a team as a whole perform better than the sum of its parts

This guy seems to have a solid history of doing this elsewhere. I see no reason to be anything other than optimistic for now.

Welcome Ivan.

Welcome Ivan Lendl

things I would like to see

a new captain

pressing, movement and fitness as priorities

Players played in their best positions with no hipster john stones bollocks

some deadwood shite players shipped out in January

The team taking “pride” in keeping clean sheets rather than from passing it round at the back

This appears to have Dragans fingerprints all over it. That surely isn’t a bad thing.

Could this be the end for the Nordic nonce.

I suspect you’re absolutely right on both counts. There’s no way this would have gone ahead without Dragan’s sign-off, and it may even have been at his instigation. The credibility of Rasmus’s ‘master plan’ can be gauged from the tactical diversity of the managers we have seriously considered and/or appointed - Marsch, Juric, Jones, Selles and Martin, and now back to Juric. That’s not a masterplan, it’s a fart in an egotistical thunderstorm, and I think/hope that Dragan has rumbled him. He doesn’t have to get rid of Rasmus, just stop letting him make the big decisions.

Is it me or does that picture make him look like a Vatican employee with something to hide?

Somewhere between that and one of Robert De Niro’s un-hinged characters.   I haven’t felt this encouraged about some sort of Saint’s revival since the better days of Ralph….before he hit the wall.

The Norwegians I knew some years ago would take exception to this.

Danish dickhead is more appropriate surely ?

Breath of fresh air.

Sretno Ivan! 🇭🇷

He speaks very well. I do think he's being a little naive about our predicament when he says 'get the points over the next few games' but he's hardly going to say "we're fucked, I'm here for the dosh" so, as you say, he seems like a breath of fresh air right now. Whether he can do anything remotely better than Martin with this squad remains to be seen but that's not exactly a high bar.

I concur 😃 🇳🇴

Cheers Badger! In most cases I don’t mind a common association with my danish neighbours, but when we are referring to Ankersen, I do insist we make a clear distinction 😉
