I wouldn’t feel sorry for him. He inherited a squad which is vastly shit compared to any seen in the Premier League - even Wigan and Blackpool back in the day had more fight.

He is guaranteed a very nice bonus if he keeps the team up and will get a huge payoff if they go down, plus a comfortable salary on the way.

Why anyone says they feel sorry for a manager in this position is hilarious.

I feel sorry for the fans. Oh, wait... 🤡🫣😞

He has not been employed to keep us up, no-one seriously expects that, it is too late. If he does manage a miracle he will get the keys to the city, and will probably turn his hand to walking on water. He has been employed with mission instructions  to get us straight back up next season, hence the 18 month contract. Succeed, then he gets a new contract.

Agreed. If the club expect us to stay up after the shit show they themselves enabled then Jesus Christ.

You can't just change a style of play overnight. It'll take time on the training ground. If he does ok this season and wants to manage us in the championship then great.

I know he loves his 343 but he really needs to go 4atb, with comments about ABK wouldn't surprise me to see him come in, please play a 4231 and regain a little bit of midfield

Agree. Bednarek was torn a new one today and proved he isn't EPL quality. Maybe time to try ABK and THB, Suga and KWP at FB, sit Les and Downes in front of them with Fernandes, Dibling and SAA behind Archer

That's Bednarek in a nutshell really, a very, very, very limited defender. Gets away with it at Champ level, but without a decent player alongside him at PL level he is utter piss. Teams will always concede goals with Bednarek in the side.

What gives you this impression?

Alfie House mentioned on the Total Saints Pod that he thought the 6 month break clause didn’t exist. Sky and Athletic reported there is one. Guess we will find out in the summer!

I've seen some people point to the number of PL appearances he's made as proof that he's a PL defender. In reality all it really proves is how awful our recruitment has been for a sustained period of time. We weren't exactly fighting off buyers when we last went down and I doubt we will be in summer either.

Mateta is an absolute beast - the only defender we have capable of playing against players like him physically is ABK. Need to get him up to speed ASAP.

I am disappointed to see the continuing nonsense of KWP on the left - with God help us Bree on the right yesterday or the poor error-prone Sugawara. Just play Manning, who verges on the adequate, on the left and put KWP in his best position.

What has Charlie Taylor done? A left back with Premier League experience and yet he doesn't get a look in.

He's better at left back imo. Whole pitch opens up to him when he plays there because he's comfortable cutting inside onto his preferred foot and going outside around the edge of the box for those short cut backs on his left foot. I'll be surprised if we don't cash in on him in January though. From memory the stats show this as well. More key passes and more shots from left back over his career.

As for the manager, he's hampered at this level by the squad, like previous managers since Ralph. Quality and mentality both lacking at this level. Not fair to judge him and the problem transcends tactics and will manifest itself just in different ways but hopefully this way of frantic football will produce some results and better vibes. If we can get some goals in January there's a chance of some credibility to be gathered. He isn't staying without some better results though.

Suga on new boss and the difference from Lego ball.

“It's only been 10 days, so we don't know everything (about Juric's style) but I feel the new manager wants to see us be more aggressive in attack.

"And in defence, in the situations when we steal the ball (he wants us to be aggressive). Under the old gaffer, when we stole the ball, we tried to keep it.

"The new gaffer wants to score a goal immediately. We have to go attack, attack. We have to see the situation to attack and get the goal.

"In training, if we steal the ball and try to pass backwards, he says 'no, try and see the pass forward and find a way to attack'.

Thank Christ for that. Even if it doesn't work at least he's identified the problem immediately.

Martin was primarily hampered by Martin. Jones was hampered by being Jones. Selles wasn't ready for the hospital pass he got. We'll see how Juric does.

Mentality comes from whoever is in charge. Sadly the previous manager had a losers mentality and worked hard to instill that in his team. So it'll take time to run this intervention.

As for the players being good enough. We'll get a better idea over the next few months.

Yeah man, always the manager, manager manager manager. Not working? Have a new one. Football is weird sometimes but that’s the way it is I suppose

The manager is the one held responsible for results. They coach the team. They pick the team. They choose the tactics. They work with the team that brings in new players to fit their system. They choose when training happens or whether to take days off. So, yes, the first place you look is the manager.

Unless you're the fucking excuse monkey we just had where he couldn't see what he could do short of stopping the game to tell the players they were great (his words) and kept banging on about how his points total was undeserved.

Now, it may well be this group of players couldn't have stayed up but I struggle to understand how Martin could have got less out of them this season.

He's the only guy we could get. He doesn't mind the relegation on his CV cos he's getting £££s. His CV ain't that stellar anyway so he's got nothing to lose.

The players are shit and ones that are less shit have given up. Be surprised if we get more than 3 more points from the remaining fixtures.

Only a fucking idiot would have picked those players and expected anything other than a big defeat.

But the biggest problem was that we only had aribo and Lesley available for midfield .. aribo doesn’t have the engine to play in a two and Lesley looks quite a donkey .. it’s not that surprising we got overrrun with that midfield but it’s all juric had to choose from ?

It's so blatent to see 343 doesn't work unless u have 2 world class cm's ,even if you had those 2  the formation will never work in the Epl,  fucking awful formation

Yep absolute pathetic. That first goal was a joke and the penalty was ridiculous. I like THB but he was dreadful yesterday too at fault for two of them with Suga. Was it the third goal there were four players round the Brentford player and he walked through them without anyone making a tackle?

Agreed. We get overrun in the middle of the pitch so easily. I'd rather see us go to a 4 and use Dibling in his best position on the right. Stick SAA on the other side, because why the hell not.

Ramsdale; KWP, Wood, Bednarek, Manning; Downes, Les, Fernandes; Dibling, SAA, Archer.

Feel a bit sorry for the bloke to be fair. with Downes and Fernandes out who else did we have who could play in midfield. Then we've got the clowns that do play arsing around with it, pulling out of tackles, giving away stupid penalties etc.

I've no idea why he started Sulemana though, absolutely shite and done nothing to warrant it. Record signing 🤣

Agreed, although I thought Sulemana was probably our best player in the first half. He wasn't particularly good, mind, and he's usually awful.

It really doesn't matter what formation we play the players are basically not good enough, and when your only defensive midfielder is injured you are totally screwed (even though he is not really good enough either).

People need to calm down a bit. It was untenable for Lego to continue and it’s going to take more than 3 games to turn this round, particularly when the players don’t seem fit enough.

Let’s see where we are after he’s managed a similar number of premier league games to Lego, as we can’t change manager again.

He’s here for the season and I agree Martin’s position was basically untenable but I think it highlights that recruitment has been a bigger issue than coaches for too many years.

it’s easy to be revisionist but Ralph wasn’t crap and would have kept us up with a half decent striker.

Jones is Jones but Selles is showing he’s a decent coach.

Juric deserves more than three games before being judged though a 5-0 pasting at home hurts. We’re down and I think the players know it - doesn’t help with their heads dropping - but it would be good to finish the season with a little credibility and a semblance of a plan for next year.

My hope was the whole point in getting a new manager would sparks. Change in something. Attitude. Formation. Tactics.

We saw a change (to a point) against West Ham and that is it.

He isn’t the man to keep us up. And I most certainly don’t think he will be the man to take us back up when we inevitably go down.

Posted

I'm not blaming Juric, hopefully he'll have learnt a huge deal i.e. who not to play.

The mentality from the players was wrong right from the start, we have a team full of losers who can't deal with setbacks. That can't be coached out of them.

Posted

Far from his fault but if yesterday continues (which it will) the he’ll only last 8 or so games, as our cuntish players had zero interest in playing for him.  I imagine it will then be Lallana in charge with Rusk until the end of the season.

However good he is he'll only be able to have a limited impact. It's well known that if you don't put in the hard yards pre-season you can't catch up while playing competitive games. This is one of Martin's legacies I'm afraid and we're stuck with it. If anyone needs proof of how lax it was just look at the constant days off from training and the fact that RM had given them Xmas day off despite having a Boxing Day match. We've been run like a pub team by SR, the manager and coaches so no surprise that we resemble one on the pitch.

Right but on this occasion we only had 2 cms available anyway so juric hand is kinda forced  .. we where nowhere near as bad in his other two matches.. fernandes and Downes where obvious big misses even though downes hasn’t been all that really .. I’d be getting Shea Charles back asap Sod his development we need him !

Trying to shake off the effects of 18 months & 2 preseasons of Lego ball will be incredibly difficult to achieve, particularly when you’ve got players like Downes, Manning & Archer who look like they were specifically brought in to play it. He needs a few out of favour and haven’t been playing it week in, week out, like Tall Paul, Big Les, Salamana, ABK and maybe SAA to step up. However, there’s no sign of that anytime soon.
