It felt like football again. Nope, you're not mental. Or at least if you are, you're not alone. Watching Saints under Russ had become a joyless chore. There was no reason to get excited, because even if we did manage to take the lead you just knew we would shoot ourselves in the foot and find a way to draw/lose the game. So it reached the stage where I couldn't even bring myself to celebrate us scoring anymore. When we got that string of corners in injury time, I was actually on the edge of my seat because we had defended properly as a team and kept ourselves in the game until the last minute, and I dared to allow myself to believe that we might actually steal it at the death. I can honestly say that was the first time this season I felt that. However, while it was encouraging and enjoyable, it also just made me feel even more angry that we had continued with the RM experiment for so long, because we might not be in such a perilous position right now if the board had taken notice of what was actually happening on the pitch and acted sooner. 10

Rather than just "a bit" I think it was actually a massive indictment and not only against R.M. but including S.R. as well. Oh yes and Merry Christmas to all ( Even the RM fans on here 😁 ) Posted at 07.09 on the 25th here in NZ 2

That’s more shots on target than we had at Villa & Wolves combined… 3

If we’d served up that exact same performance with Russ on the touchline this thread would be 12 pages of how boring and turgid we were to watch. I don’t care if prime Arsene Wenger was our manager on Sunday, that was not a ‘really really enjoyable’ game. Ramsdale saved us from a routine 3-0 defeat in a game where their keeper could have brought a sudoku book. 1

I’d have taken a few boring 0-0s under your hero’s stewardship. …maybe wouldn’t be in the complete mess his ego has us in right now. 3

Remind me of all those games that Russell Martin managed with Ramsdale in goal where we kept a clean sheet. ......versus all the games with Ramsdale in goal and Russell Martin managing where we let in, just plucking a number out of the air here, three goals? The performance wasn't great, but we were playing an in form Fulham team and I think we all would have taken a draw before the game. The only differences between the Fulham game and the Wolves/Villa games were we didn't gift the opposition a goal and we restricted the number of shots on our goal, due to a much more pragmatic game plan that we've been crying out for. Whitey Grandad Posted 26 December, 2024 Posted 26 December, 2024 We are the first team to prevent Fulham from scoring at home this season.
