For starters because we'll probably sell Bednarek and THB, and lose KWP, all of whom we had last season. Wood, Edwards and Taylor are a downgrade on those 3.

Next seasons squad will be worse than last seasons.

I’m not so sure. A lot can happen between now and then. Pretty clear THB and KWP will go from last seasons squad but can’t see anyone else being wanted. Which mean with Archer, Armstrong, BBD and Stewart (lol) that’s better attacking options than Armstrong and Adams.

midfield if Charles comes back he’s by all accounts having a great season so that’s midfield stronger

defence possibly weaker depending on who comes in but even with KWP and THB we still conceded a bucket load of goals, a manager with an idea how to defend might compensate for a potential downgrade. Even then though with Wood, Edwards, Manning, Bree, Taylor, Suga, dare I say it even the Cornish beckenbaur that’s a decent core of good championship defenders, plus whoever come in

im going to say it’ll be par, maybe better.

How can you possibly say that when you don’t have a clue who’s going to leave or be signed. We have a bloated squad full of decent championship players, plus have a few we will sell for good money so are potentially in a better position than last time.

Plus we don’t have Martin holding us back so surely promotion should be a formality.

I'm not sure Archer will stick around but he'll do well if he does. BBD, based on what he's done for us, definitely isn't an upgrade on Adams.

Charles was here last season, so him Downes, and Aribo leave us where were last season.

Defence will be a downgrade on what we had last season. That said, I like Bree and think he'll do well for us, and Manning is better than people make out.

With a weaker defence, I still think we'll be worse off next season than we were last.

I don’t see where Archer would go, another move to a promoted side maybe? I think he’ll still be here

Midfield even if we are the same personnel wise Charles had never kicked a ball in mens football when he joined us, he’ll have had a year on loan playing every week this season, he’ll surely offer more than he did.

Manning, Taylor, Bree, Suga gives us decent full back options, Wood doing okay since he’s come in

anyway it’s a pretty futile discussion as we’ve mo idea who will be here and who won’t.

Lots of speculation over next season already. Surprised no one has mentioned that we can look forward to seeing Bazunu (last seasons best Gk in the division according to Lego) coming back in between the sticks.

Yes, definitely the greatest days in the club’s history are just around the corner with Sports Republic. I’m just thankful I’m alive to live through it.

Just on this note I watched a very interesting podcast earlier by a strength and conditioning coach who works with Chelsea academy. He said the gold standard for first team players need to his is 1.5 x body weight for squat 2 x body weight for deadlift. I knew this is a kind of an industry standard for strength  but didn’t realise this is normal for footballers.

he also said young players should be doing strength and conditioning stuff from a young age, barbell lifts from 11 or 12 concentrating on technique before load so by the time they come out of puberty they can already squat and deadlift body weight with perfect technique so they can then accelerate to Chelsea lifting standards with all the testosterone surging. He says give any young kids two sessions a week with him within a year they will be miles ahead of the rest of their team in terms of S&C creating fit, strong explosive players who have the best possible protection against injures.

this goes against the old school theory that kids shouldn’t do weights at all until puberty something I have always disagreed with. I’m actually a qualified weightlifting coach myself so have been taking my 11 year old to the gym twice a week to do light compound lifts myself for the last 3-4 weeks,  technique first before load as he loves it. be interesting to see how it effects his performance as he’s probably one of the most skilful players in our league but very lightweight as he’s undersized for his age

Given how many good players Chelsea produce Be interesting to see if they do this At saints?
