Martin on Ramsdale: "If it happens it would be amazing, and I’m sure we’ll talk about it if and when it does happen."

Hope RM’s joy at this lasts longer than Ralph’s did re Gakpo.

The noises and indications are good, but always fear the possibility of a Wolves counter offer. Believe it and celebrate when it’s announced.

Wolves are signing Johnstone aren’t they?

Johnstone was doing his medical today and Wolves are phoning round trying to see if anyone can fix them up with a CB, so I think they're done on the GK front

For clarity, I’m not implying Mr X’s other half is easy. I’m sure she’s lovely.

We have this young lad called Armel...

Well, who'd have thought it. I've always gone along with the idea that the value will be in the loan market as the window creeps to the end, this looked to all that it was going to be a loan (maybe it still will be, and the media have got confused?).

But if we've sorted this out as a permanent signing, then that is some commitment from the club and hats off to SR for me. We needed to take this summer as an opportunity to replace Bazunu with a new first choice for many years, assuming we stay up - we've done that.

I thought it was a loan with an option to buy?

Bijlow was played.

I don't believe so. We wanted him, conditional on his fitness. He couldn't pass the medical, so prudent for us not to continue.

I feel for him, but we cannot afford another Ross Stewart.

Agree. I don't think anything nefarious went on here.

I think we were prepared to save money on the GK situation by going for Bijlow on loan, medical confidence dependent. We didn't get the reassurances we were hoping for and have just reallocated budget to buy in the GK position (and ended up with RM's #1 preference) rather than loan someone in, meaning we will probably now use our spare PL loan slot for a wide player/striker rather than buying one of those.

I would add to that:

                  Ramsdale

Sugawara THB Bednarek KWP

                     Les    Downes

That's actually starting look pretty solid

I would add to that

             Ramsdale

Suga - THB - Bedders - KWP

                Big- Les

        Downes - Fernandes

AA          Archer            BBD

What would be perfect would be that a condition of the transfer would be him being made captain.

Now this might be an issue. Bijlow as we saw from clips was nailed on be our specialist defensive shithouse. Now that his transfer is off, you're talking about restricting Jack to merely abusing our opponents from the touch line?!

You're suggesting placing the weight of the housery responsibility on BBD's shoulders. Let's hope the core 1:1 training he received in Chile will shine through.

We have also been linked with another potential deputy though, and without the weight of the Captaincy he could really focus on his wind up game.

Huge signing if this happens, and will provide Saints with a top level keeper for many years, something we’ve been crying out for for a decade. Will also give the board and manager credit and credibility and the fans a genuine boost! Successful sides are built from the back and and down the spine. Great work, Ramsdale has bags of ability and character.

It’s yet to be announced but got to believe this one is in the bag. If Leicester can offer a no.1 GK to England then so can Southampton assuming our new look squad can climb the table above them and that’ll be a great day. Think SR have really looked after their EPL club handsomely - will be our record signing if the full £25m is to be believed and hopefully it keeps Baz on the bench (if indeed he ever returns to EPL football).

I think it is critical that as a forum we come together, discuss and reach consensus on a topic of the utmost importance:

Is this, in fact, an INSANE signing?

Being a permanent signing took me by surprise but fantastic news.

This is a GK that would improve the majority of teams in the league, let alone a side who are fighting for survival.

I've seen some re-writing of history about his ability today on X etc, but he is fantastic and is a huge coup for us.
