I’m loving the gallows humour on this thread. Funny but equally sad when we used to be so positive in the days of Adonis, Poch, RK etc. How far we’ve fallen.

Only two things more miserable than this, the EastEnders Christmas Day episodes and me when my mother in law is about.

At least one of those is easily avoided.  Unless your mother in law is a fan of EastEnders in which case you're well and truly fooked.

Mr Postecoglou, your job is safe for another week at least.

And the irony is, if we win he looses his job and RM keep his. 😂

I'm genuinely not sure who the winners are in that scenario.

Would a 0-0 bore draw see them both gone? This week's special offer. 2 managers for the price of one. I am taking grandchildren to the pantomime tomorrow afternoon so when I get out from there I can see how the other pantomime at St. Mary's has gone.

I honestly wouldn't trust who they would have lined up to replace Martin probably someone even worse (is that even possible though?) herin lies the problem a no win situation (sound familiar?)

Some might argue failing to score against our defence was a sackable offence on its own

You really are a miserable bunch. I grant you it's a lot more fun online to take the piss...  but not me.  I still find myself looking forward to each game, torture and all, and get HUGE pleasure from the moments when we're playing well. And despite it all there have actually been a lot of those moments. I'm happy to be the counter-voice here who believes we're actually really close to a run of wins.

If tall Paul comes on in the 60th minute and in the 70th minutes heads home a winner from a cross whipped in by Dibling or Fernandez or KWP... then I would like a little appreciation please.  That event could easily be in our v near future.

I think at this point, it's pointless to sack Martin. We're trying to compete in the world's best league with teams that have spent way more than us... and we're precious close to getting it right. There are so many games where we've been competitive and exciting to watch for large parts of the match. Of course, when you lose, the narrative gets completely rewritten as a shitshow. But watch how that changes if and when the results start to go our way.

I think Sunday will be a thunderous game... and we'll edge Spurs out 3-2.

They will score first, probably from a set piece because Martin hasn’t learned that our defenders are shit at corners and free kicks. We will then gift them a second as our defenders are to scared to clear their lines due to Martin’s possession obsession.  THB will head in a corner.. Just so Martin can spout his bullshit about just how plucky but unlucky we were. As we push up for an equaliser, Spurs will hit us on the counter and score another because Martin has given the lads a few more days off rather than working on their abysmal fitness levels.

1-3 Spurs at best. They won’t need to try too hard.

Russell Martin will not be to blame though. Brave, proud, better, close, trust will all be in his post match drivel.

I think you're confusing possession of the ball with being competitive. We've been competitive in very small patches in maybe three games but I'm genuinely pleased you look forward to each game. I always want us to win but I also want a manager who is flexible and understands when things aren't working. Remember that fans have spent decent money supporting the team and they deserve better than this shit show.

We are not competitive.

Worst manager we’ve ever had and to top it off the most deluded.

Absolutely mad that he’s still here. Absolutely mad how utterly shite we are and the club don’t even care.

Problem is when he does fluke another win (I use the word fluke because we won despite him not because of anything great tactically that he did to change things) like at everton where we didn't deserve the three points and they hit the woodwork several times they will be waxing lyrical about how right they are and he's the man to take the club forward (Except on the pitch) and rasmus was the visionary behind the success!

"moments when we're playing well"

There have been a couple of those but they were very brief moments.

"we're precious close to getting it right"

No we aren't.  If anything we are further away than ever. It"s the gambler's falacy. 'My luck is bound to change soon so I'll keep putting my money on five at the back'. The table tells you all you need to know.

I obviously haven't drunk enough to see this alternate reality where we've been exciting to watch and competitive.

That's the problem with a 7pm Sunday kick off; nor will I having to drive and not use public transport.

The only good thing is playing in the afternoon and then still being able to get to the game. Knowing my luck the showers will be cold and there'll be a diversion on the M27: both ways..

Only 8 points from safety - how many games will that take, 70?

The thing is - at this stage in the season that's fucking embarrassing. Our squad doesn't deserve this. Agreed, they're not the strongest in the league, but this is down to how they've been managed.

Don't know if TP is fit, but I'd like to see Archer playing off him up front and Lumley thumping the ball up to the strikers at every opportunity. And every time he does, give a wave to RM!

My guess is that your ideal Saturday afternoon involves a dungeon, dominatrix and a strap-on. 😂

(Bit like being at St Mary's these days, except we don't enjoy it)

Exactly how I’m feeling. Not just the worst manager we’ve ever had, he is, by some margin, the worst manager to ever manage in this league. And the club couldn’t give a fucking shit. It’s an absolute joke.

Maybe it's just the way my brain works but I'm struggling to work out where all the blind faith comes from, Martin's faith in his tactics seems to go against all the real evidence where every team he's managed has conceded loads of goals, and the boards blind faith in Martin where we are handicapped in the league but continuing to gift goals to opponents.

I think Martin must believe that it will lead to bigger and better things for him.

For the board I think they are so far out of their depth when it comes to the actual sport of football they have no idea who they'd actually replace him with, so will hide behind "long term " project and pretend everything is fine.

In defence of Martin he is doing exactly what he always said he would do, for me change needs to happen from the top.

Will still get behind the players today , they're trying and deserve the fans backing. In a disaster of a season if we could fluke a win over a side like Spurs would be a highlight

Given how badly ‘doing exactly what he always said he would do’ is panning out that’s no defence whatsoever in fact it’s a damning indictment.

We now accept that Russell Martin's job is fairly secure... for the foreseeable future ...

Er...   NO,  I'm not on the wrong thread, but if Tottenham lose this one, it will be the Spurs manager who

will be first out of the door on Monday morning.   Tottenham have always regarded Saints as a source of talent

for players (and managers); Bale, Wanyama. Höjbjerg  ...and of course their sojourn with Pochettino in charge,

yet  they still seem to regard us as a second-class part of the Prem. scene.

YES  there is a disparity between our ambitions.  Financial restraints mean they can spend hundreds of millions

and think they have some Divine Right to a C.L. place every year, whereas most of the rest of us are glad to

survive , although that will be a very tough ask this season, given our terrible start.

If Tyler Dibling puts on a show today, Daniel Levy will come in with some sort of deplorable offer, and then

suggest..." he'll be doing us a favour." , or perhaps offer a few mill. for KWP in January who is OOC in the summer.

( I for one would be glad to fly over and tell him where he can stick his offer ).

A fluke win would give SR another excuse not to get rid of Martin and he would be insufferably smug having beaten the mighty spuds.

I never want Saints to lose, but I'm not sure I could be happy about us winning until either Martin changes his football or he gets fired.

Win, lose or draw RM will still be our manager going forward. There is clearly no intention to get rid of him.

Then we have to get rid of the owners..... But is that even possible? They clearly know nothing about running a football club..... And purchased saints just as a portfolio asset and a way to make money through players sales

Playing in the Premier League brings in £100m in TV money and who knows how much more in indirect revenue. Surely they'd want to priotise keeping this up.

I still live in hope that something will change. Russ is clearly under some pressure and is becoming slowly more and more unhinged. It's sad to see this happening to anyone, but it might take him going full blown mad Nate for them to act.

We are all disappointed, but who is the "we"?.   If it's thousands of fans, they will simply stop going to matches in protest, and maybe

go and support Bournemouth ?    NO !      SR has invested a lot of money since their takeover, (not to mention Dragan's £100+ million)

and so the likelihood of  "getting rid" of them seems most unlikely.

I mean... would you invest in a club with both feet in the drop zone,  and then throw in another fortune to buy even more players ?

Even RM  recognises that things aren't going well, but; sub-standard performances, injuries, suspensions, form-loss, a lack of fire-power,

and dodgy VAR decisions have all contributed to our situation in a team that has yet to play unchanged for two matches in succession.

We just need to grin and bear it and hope for a quick turnaround in results.
