Southampton 0-5 Tottenham - Match Thread

The only way I can describe this season is that it feels like we've taken a year off. I look at PL games and forget we're actually in the PL.

We have quite simply taken a year off of competitive football, a really weird approach but I'm sure somewhat revolutionary in the mind of Rasmus.

So as we've taken the year off, I'll also take the year off. Got much more important things to focus on. Hobbies are supposed to be fun, this is pitiful.

I only saw the second half, so not too much can be taken from it.

Spurs had a couple of early counter attacks, and one late closer range effort that would have been offside. Apart form that, they were only too happy to play well within their capabilities. They didn't have to expend too much energy to keep us at bay, even then, and got to bring on a number of youngsters, who we also failed to make any real impact against.

With plenty of space and a team not going at PL pace, we got to do a few nice passing moves. We moved the ball about as per Russball, to shift Spurs and create a few opportunities. Our final ball wasn't great, the player making it often took too long, and sometimes we had too few players in there to have mattered anyway. The final third looked less than fluid, and more hopeful.

Heads didn't seem to have gone down. KWP, AA, Manning and Dibling for starters, kept working away. Fernandes even got it into the net, but form an offside position.

The commentator indicated that we were not at the intensity levels as a team in the first half and got blown away. I'll need to watch that. To not give away individual errors, but fall apart as a team sounds even worse.

James Maddison (who we were once seriously interested in) was having a post match chat with AA. AA looked well aware that he was on camera. He didn;t want to say too much to Maddison, but looked embarrassed.

TV focused on 4 supporters with the R.M get out of our club banner. Loads of empty spaces around. SR must be hoping they all come back for Championship football, if they don't take some action.

Martin interview -

Hurt at the first half

As a group we don't respond well to set backs

We had the chance to foul Djed Spence and we didn't (wtf 😂)

The most disappointing thing is we had a plan, loved the weeks training, but we didn't carry it out.

I didn't recognise our team in the first half (I did!!)

(What did you say at half time) Not very much

We have to accept were playing against a really top team

(On the fans reaction) - they were amazing second half. As a person the boos don't affect me, it's not personal. As a manager yeah, but I also understand it.

We have no choice but to work and fight, it's what I'll do until I'm told to do otherwise.

Ah so it's the players' fault. They forgot to carry out "the plan". I see.

So annoyed about that first half performance tonight. We had a whole week to prepare for it and we came up with a totally off the pace first half. What was the shape of the team? That is on the manager

You’ve missed the point sir, you have to focus on the second half where we had some brilliant moments !

It's been obvious since the Bournemouth debacle that Martin has no clue and is out of his depth. Yet he's still here.

Now it's too late.

Very true. That was just bizarre, as was the wide striker thing against forest

Brentford away at the end of August signalled for me what was to come. I know it was early but we were so outclassed it was ridiculous and I thought if we are that bad against a mid table team then I can't see us getting much at all this year.

I'm really enjoying this season. I used to believe that you needed to score goals, keep clean sheets and gain points. Players had to play in the positions they had been coached to play in since the age of 16. They had to do tackles and so forth. Under no circumstances should they gift the oppo a goal per game, within the first 5 minutes. They were meant to try and entertain their supporters. BUT thanks to Russell Martin I now realise how wrong I was. Watching the other team outplay us is clearly the way forward. Who need goals of our own when we can enjoy loads of theirs. I can now laugh every week at the team selection. The one negative for RM is that we've collected 5 points this season. I'm sure we're all disappointed with that but I'm confident Russ won't allow any more of that nonsense.

Can't wait for Liverpool on Wednesday. Fortune favours the brave!!! Love you all, kiss kiss.

He’s gone and he knows it. Sullied his reputation the last 2 months of this. Rasmus under huge pressure as well. I reckon SR might be re-structuring him out of things. Employ him for Goztepe only if they like him. Wish they’d sell up though. At a minimum, new manager, coaching, scouting team and DoF needed.

Lallana in charge until they get the DoF in place first.

Would like to think you’re right, but this seems more like wishful thinking. What leads you to think this might happen ? *

* other than we think it should

The Northam doing the goal music celebration after Fernandes' disallowed goal is a level of gallows humour that I didn't credit our fanbase with.

Genuine highlight of the night.

You seem to have cheered right up since Greg got taken off the telly.

He just has to go now.  I'm sure what we hear about the "players loving him and playing for him" can no longer be true.  They get battered every week as a result of his tactics and selection.

Tonight was the first time I've had the feeling that the players have stopped playing for him.

Well, somehow my Washington COmmanders hung on for the win, despite playing as badly in the 2nd half as Saints did in the 1st half.  Ironically the COmmanders were playing the Saints

We’re the equivalent of Carolina Panthers. Watching Lions v Bills atm.
