Let's assume we need 34 points to stay up.  We have 5 so we need 29 more that's either 8 wins and 5 draws or 9 wins and 2 draws.  The depressing thing about relegation battles (as compared to promotion ones) is how few games we actually win in a season.  Just look back at the various Great Escapes and take the rose coloured specs off.  Each time the escape was preceded by 6 months of garbage.

We would need to win at least one in every three and then some.

In all honesty it's really looking too late to save us this season but if a new guy could galvanised the team and get them playing with their tails up then at least we'd go down with a chance of bouncing back.

I think that's what most realistic fans would hope for now.

To have a chance of survival come the final game we'd have to show the form of a 50 point season and that is not happening in the next 5-10 games.

I'd love to be proved wrong though.

That’s where I’m at….to sit through more games with no shots on 70% possession between defence and absolute bullshit about playing with pride.

The big issue is who chooses new manager and SR admission they fcked up yet again

Can't we just get a manager with experience of promotion from the championship and with getting clubs of a similar size performing well? We need someone like Moyes with a particular set of skills.

We just need someone to get us past the record low points total. That’s all there is to play for, and it’s been that way since about the second week of the season. Basically, anyone that isn’t Russell fucking Martin should just about do it.

Fine for this season, but we need to think about who is right foe a promotion push next season, unless the 'plan'is to change again at the end of this.

Most of us are realistic enough to accept any new manager will be taking over the legacy left by Russell with a very low points total and slim to zero chance of avoiding relegation. If and when SR get round to appointing someone his job will be to steady the ship and make us harder to beat by cutting out the stupid suicidal play in and around our penalty area. He'll need to set us up in a solid shape where players know their jobs as opposed to the make-it-up-as-you-go-along RM playbook. Improving us in these areas should be easy because the current bar is set so low. He'll need to cut out the walking football and get us playing more vertically towards the opposition goal rather than away from it. Do this and results are bound to improve and we can hope to beat Derby's record and be in a better space come the end of the season and ready to have another tilt at promotion. The biggest fly in the ointment is the fact that our owners have shown themselves to be a clueless bunch and they will be the ones making the big decisions.

I’d never thought I’d agree with Carragher….

his synopsis on Spurs after todays game is us all over.
he can’t understand the inflexibility of managers to move away from their supposed ‘philosophy’ of how the game is played. 
they stick to the same way through thick and thin…despite of results. 
his analogy…. He gets up,puts shorts,trainers on and goes for a run everyday….if it’s raining…he puts a coat on because the elements dictate it. 
may seem daft…but it’s true. 🤷🏻‍♂️

That's exactly what we need.

I've had a brief look at his Wikipedia page and I say bring him in.

Interestingly, he left a top flight team to take a job in the tier below (which he won) so it shows he's prepared to take a risk in taking jobs. And let's be honest, we're a big risk.

Of course he is. He doesn't want people to know after is colossal f*ck up with Jones and relegation, but "Mr Football" has an ego the size of the titanic, so there's no way that narcissist would sit in the background and let others make decisions. He thinks he a genius, when in reality he's a moron. Reports are that some on the Board wanted RM gone some time ago, but Ankersen was the one digging in his heels insisting that disastrous manager remain in the job, underlining that he was very much involved in his hiring and is still making (shit) decisions.

Yep. They finished rock bottom with their previous manager, then appointed Matos upon relegation and they absolutely pissed the second division. Now he has them 4th in the Primeira Liga, recently beating Sporting.

Looks like he knows how to erase scar tissue!

I watch quite a bit of the LP and Santa Clara (minnows) are doing very well at the moment but the standard in general is very poor, rather like the Scottish Prem in terms of quality spread.  Would be very left field, perhaps too left field even for SR, but who knows.
