Yes, Russ, it's bad luck. It's unbelievable that a team that creates so many clear cut opportunities for their opponents and can't make the opposition keeper make a save keeps failing to get points. I just hope TayTay is ok after he limply folded to let in their centre forward.

There is one more thing you could try. Fucking off.

I could accept some bemoaning of luck if we were on 11 points or something like that, at least in the conversation.

But we've got 5 points. 1 win. and what feels like 700 defeats with plenty of goals let in for good measure. That's not about luck, it's about being fundamentally shit.

I don’t know how much say RM had in the summer transfers but the attack we had today was very poor and when you combine that with ponderous build up we aren’t going to be scoring many.

I can’t see any half decent manager taking the job as the club is clearly dysfunctional at the moment and relegation nailed on.

I can’t think of another season like this in 40 years of supporting the club. Yes we have had difficult seasons but we are so uncompetitive this season it’s untrue.

I can't remember ever being less bothered about a Saints result.  I think that we are all resigned to relegation this season.  An intransigent manager and an ownership that is completely disengaged from the fanbase.  I think that we have collectively given up and I can't see a repeat of the kind of protests that got rid of Branfoot.  Which would probably be ignored anyway.

Just have to hope that by the start of next season RM is gone and either SR are gone or they have got a competent CEO and someone who knows about recruiting players.  Otherwise next season is going to be equally miserable.

Yeah he was playing to the crowd and launching it long when it wasn’t needed, and guess what..it involved giving the ball away and if Felix could shoot it would have led to a goal.

RM right about the long balls btw, whether you like it or not. It happened Wednesday too. Cheering giving the ball away whether it’s short or long is strange.

Anyway, new manager, new vibes, bring it on.

Proud of the players after a 5-1 home defeat, slags them off after an away 1-0 defeat.

The bloke is a completely insincere prick.  I look forward to the day when SR finally do their job properly and get rid of the twat.

I could not stand him last season. I detest him being our manager this season!

He is an arrogant twat.

Don't be a prick, if he goes long and we "give the ball away" they still have to go through our entire team to score. Go short and give the ball away they get a tap in and score,"going long" doesn't cause the goal, it's the shit defending when the other team next attack.

However, I may be reading a bit too much into this but considering the possibility that he may have gone with that last sentence. Fingers crossed.

Not going to try changing anything then? Just keep doing the same thing, and trust it'll come good.

Cool.

Another £150, and a day wasted driving on awful roads to watch Saints. Don’t get me wrong I can take losing, god knows I’ve had nearly 5 decades of it. What I do find difficult to stomach is to come away from another game having not had a shot on target or laid a glove on them.

If you're going to argue that us kicking the ball long is bad because it cedes possession, then how come them doing exactly the same thing straight back is good?

Literally nothing to do with giving the ball away and everything to do with competent defending.

How did the short passing work out against Chelsea?

Have another look at goal Manning/THB and Lumley all could have done better but guess they were listening to fans rather than the manager too?

Clearly you watched a different game to Russell judging by his after-match comments.

Context - we were missing big money strikers Loch Ness Drogba and Tall Paul so hardly surprising we look blunt up top

Just back from the game after a wild and wet day.  I thought we played well first 20 mins and looked creative, but as soon as their goal went in our lack of confidence showed.  We never tested Martinez once, which is criminal, and in truth a much changed Villa never got out of third gear.  Best players today in my view were KWP and Wood, with Aribo playing well after coming off the bench.  Not too much else to shout about.

Given we have now allowed Martin to manage nine more league games since the Bournemouth disaster, which is when I felt he should have gone, for the paltry return of an additional four points, I assume we have just given up and will stick with for the rest of the season to avoid paying compensation.  It would be helpful if the Board had the balls to just say this, that in effect results are irrelevant and it’s all one big development opportunity.

Agreed, If they didn't sack him after Bournemouth or at the very least should have gone after Leicester at home they must be resigned to us going down already and have written off the season

I think I'm done. Following your football team is supposed to be fun, but SR and Russ have sucked every last bit of joy out of watching Saints, and I'm just numb to it now. I don't think I can stomach watching another weak, insipid performance like today's again. We're so toothless, I've seen newborn babies with more bite.

Thanks Russ, thanks Rasmus. You've made me fall out of love with the team I've followed for 35 years.

I know what you're saying but I've always been a "through thick and thin" fan, manager and board have fucked it up but I still see enough players out there giving it their all who deserve support of the fans

There is nothing to really analyse, it's just the same old.  I'm just bored shitless with it all. How we are so slow with the ball, how we are technically awful in the final third, and how we continuously tie ourselves in knots at the back.

It feels like we're taking a season off, as we're now just playing non-competitive friendlies up until May. Sounds fun.

This was blindingly obvious today. It was like watching over-50’s walking football whenever we had the ball. It’s mind-blowing! No urgency to get forward and we still looked more knackered than them towards the end of the game.

We are so far off any other team in this league tactically, technically and physically.. It’s just a good job we’re so brave.. or who knows where we’d be?!

At times we briefly looked good and moved forward with some purpose, then wasted on a dreadful ball into the box, or cut back instead of taking on a shot.

So no shots , go backwards rather than trying anything penetrating,, aaahhh all getting a bit boring now . So keep this set up till 5 games to go then change it, when we will be just the 30 points from safety…

am going to spurs game purely cos a few pints and a sausage at the German market but then that’s it for the season …

see you all in the championship

It's all very well Russ getting spikey with the fans, but the cold hard truth is that Emery, Nuno, and Maresca completely owned RM on the pitch with their tactics, preparation, and in game strategy.

I didn't think Villa even had to try hard today, their style of play completely nulified any chance we had. Frankly bringing Watkins on at the end was just cruel.

They are, and they have. And also can’t afford to pay him and his staff off. Not that anyone would trust them to appoint anyone better anyway…

I think most of us on here could own Russell in a match - it doesn't require much footballing nous - just set the press as we try to play out from the back and wait for the inevitable howlers, rinse and repeat. It's the easiest opposition team talk in football when RM is in charge as is being proved week after week.

Think that’s it with the inept performance and inane comments today. He’s in for some stick next match. Feels like most of the fanbase can see how ridiculous the situation is. Fan patience runs out and so will he temper followed by employment. Fuck all to lose have we.
