I’m hoping Bednarek will be back for this game now that Stephens is suspended. Although Wood didn’t do badly tonight for a first start in the PL.

Shame what little momentum we had is lost but the Chelsea game was always going to be a slog with the unavailable players. Hoping those players returning are well rested and can give us more of a fighting chance.

Villa hadn’t won since October but looked back on form vs Brentford tonight. Very tough away game and even with some players returning we will do well to get anything from this game. 5 points from 15 games would continue the embarrassment.

What's the point. Martin seems impervious to the sack. 28 mistakes that have led directly to a chance, 10 of them going in.

Martin never learns, we're miles adrift. That streaker covered more ground tonight than BBD has all season.

We're down.

Who gives a fuck?

we will see a hybrid back 5, will give away at least 1 goal trying to play out from the back and see us taking monumental risks in our defensive 3rd

the manager is f-ing detestable

Just send Villa a 5-0 win and save the sad souls who were paying to watch it some petrol and train fares at least. SFC is like a kitchen that’s failed an HSE inspection and poisoned half of the diners. Shut it down until there’s at least a chef in place other than Rusty the Clown 🤡

Only a day to wait for the next installment of an opposition manager *cough* gushing over RM's brave tactics.

I think we can easily predict Unai Emery's glowing praise to the awaiting press "...I love the way he sticks to his principles, I particularly admired that inspired U-bend formation v Forest (whispers hope he tries that again soon) just keep doing what you're doing"

Patronising (tick), condescending (tick), sarcastic (tick), bullshitting (tick).

One of my best aways when the team was struggling under Ralph and we went to Villa just before Christmas and beat them 3-1. Remember the 'Can we play you every week? chant and the Christmas ode to Ralph. Great times. We weren't great then but there was always faith in Ralph that somehow we'd turn it around.

Who knows, most players back, Shoehorn out, everyone ignores RM's instructions and just maybe....

Hey come on, no need to be too despondent. We all knew this run of games was going to be tough. Just have to stand tall.

THB possibly Bendarek, Downes, and Dibling are back. The side will have more balance and structure as a result of that.

I would have

Lumley

KWB THB Wood Manning

Dibling Downes Aribo Fernandes

Armstrong Archer

I'd prefer Onuachu but presume he's unfit.

A midfield that might just contain Villa would very a good starting point.

The grim reaper can f*** off we aren't dead yet.

When we were kids back in the day and came off our bikes or self-made go-carts scratching our arms and legs to buggery, Mum would clean us up and then inflict even more pain with a Dettol or TCP bath. Watching Russball week in week out is a bit like that…we’re told it’s doing us good, but it fucking stings like hell. And each game inflicts a new level of ‘tough love’.

And this game will be no different.  Villa are a good outfit now…wise buys, great manager and tactically generally sound. We’ll lose…not by much, but we’ll lose no doubt. Russ will repeat his bullshit ideas and mantra of being proud of his brave boys. There’ll be another wave of anger on here and across the supporter base, to no avail because SR and the Board are toothless.

Next.

On the upside, if the game goes how I expect, there won’t be many queues for me when I get to Witton station.

Is it Himalayan rock salt? Russ only likes Himalayan rock salt!

I love this optimism, and I wouldn't want to strip you of that so Happy Christmas.

On the positive side, no we are certainly not dead.  Literally speaking of course!

Premier League wise though, yeah we were down at game 10.  No team has ever survived having so few points at that stage, we have a upper-mid champ team, with a mid champ manager.

It’s not often that I look at an away fixture at a top 6 side and think yeah this is winnable, we can get at them… this isn’t one of those times either.

The Villa are in a sticky patch but home games versus Brentford and us is a good opportunity for them to turn that form around.

We welcome back Tyler, Taylor, Soldier, Spy following suspension. New club captain (surely) Downes also rested. Jan could also return, giving us a much stronger look.

We’ve been a more attacking threat of late, Villa are a bit dodge at the back. 1-2 an Archer double.

For those being brave and travelling to Villa Park, when on M42 last week, noted M42 is closed the entire weekend between junctions 6 (NEC/Airport) and 7 (M6) for HS2 infrastructure works. See photosIMG_6939.thumb.png.8cc93c6e0d06e0ac487e88b28ac511d0.pngIMG_6938.thumb.png.1e8a24f237c1089fd071496fb587ff48.png attached. Weather not looking great either.

Still have 2 tickets available see Saints Away channel.

This will cause absolute chaos on the roads. So with this, the awful storm that’s predicted and the likelihood that we’ll just get another battering not travelling may be sensible.

Oh I agree the outlook is bleak but I have no fear of relegation. I just want it to be dignified. Need 12+ points to avoid another unwanted record.

Providing Bednarek is back and RM sticks with the same system I'd go for this side -

Lumley; KWP, Bree, THB, Bednarek, Manning; Aribo, Downes; Dibling, Fernandes, Archer.

I'd have Onuachu in if he's fit but looks like RM has been telling porkies on injuries as usual.

Last Christmas I gave you my heart,

But the very next day you gave it away.

This year, to save me from tears,

I'll give it to Russe ...Tyler Dibling

I'll take a stab at a 3-1 loss, Archer may have an extra spring in his step and get on the score sheet.

Apparently neither does the owner, the board, the manager and probably the few decent players we have, because they'll go elsewhere. Shocking situation. If they're banking on immediate promotion again, they're idiots. Staying on topic though, 3-1 Villa without breaking sweat.

I can't see another win for rest of season and that's based on Saints spending most of the game in our own half/area/6 yard box. It's possible to score goals which we have and some good ones. But that's only a small amount of the math time, rest is negative, high risk back passing. Villa 4-0 Saints. Doesn't matter who is in team or how many red cards, even if we had 12 or 13 players still be 8 players in 6 yard box for goal kick.

At least when we go down we can have another go at actually winning the league.

The Championship is a tough, highly competitive league. Sunderland 5-0, 9 conceded to Leicester, Stoke and Hull at home, Cardiff away.

Two stronger and bigger clubs will come down with us, I was going to say better run but Everton are about par with Saints for being pathetic on that front.

Might get top 6 under Steve Cooper, mid-table at best with Martin and remember Ramsdale will go and Martin will put our worst ever keeper Bazanu back in, along with Stephens his best buddy.

Everything everyone said last time. We've just been promoted 'in spite of' Martin, Bazunu and Stephens and I'm quite happy to be promoted in spite of them again.

No guarantees whatsoever that happens, and SR’s complacency is infecting the fanbase in that and other regards. Come on fellow Saints fans, think critically unlike those boardroom muppets lit up last night on camera as their failing football club sank yet again without a whimper.

Even if we did, Martin is the worst ever PL manager by any metric.

Only for you to spend the following season saying all the players are terrible and it's not Russell Martin's fault we're going down again.

Triffic.

Who is guaranteed to get us promoted?

That'll largely depend on if we sign more terrible players.

Nobody. The parachutes give us a big advantage season, quite big season two. After that you cut your cloth.

Far more prospect of Cooper and others taking us up than Martin. It won’t be scar tissue after this season with that cunt in charge, it’ll be 90% body burns.

Rasmus Ankerson will be buying them so that’s a given. All the more reason to not employ the worst manager in our history for another season to mitigate the Danish disaster.

Thanks for confirming that in your mind nothing will ever ever be Russell Martin's fault.
