To be fair we were 3-1 down before the sending off. What makes you think it wouldn't have finished 5-1 if we still had 11 men?

The board and owner are an embarrassment. To potentially be the worst premier league side in history is a record nobody wants… the club has a proud tradition and sport’s republic are just pissing all over that, just allowing us to go down with manager who’s ego is bigger than the club itself. Martin talks about scare tissue but the scare left after this season will be the most impactful ever. Martin was having a right go at lumley for going long under pressure just before the cock up. It’s all on Martin and the complete cocks running our club. The rest of the league must be pissing themselves laughing.

SR wouldn't know what was required to successfully run a football club if it danced naked in front of them.

The negatives are so obvious I'll have a go at the positives:

- Chelsea's xG 5.29 expected goals is more than the 5 they scored which is the equivalent of a clean sheet (probably)

- They scored less after Jack went off and we were down to 10

- Joe Aribo was excellent, really strong on the ball and scored a goal. Manning actually looked decent, with an amazing goal saving block.

- MOTM the frame of the goal

- We've solidified our place in the table

- Erm.

No point reading anything into that game. We played alright before the sending off, and with our B team practically out.

Stephens should have the captaincy stripped, pure stupidity from him and completely unprofessional.

Hopefully on Saturday we get back to something similar to the Brighton team and we'll get something from Villa.

There’s more chance of me getting sucked off by Shakira than us getting something at villa

Martin talking as if before the red card it was an even game. We were 3-1 down at that point.

I think most of us knew this is exactly what he would come out with after the game. We should have been more than 3-1 down at that stage and I doubt the final score would have been much different had 'Captain Calamity' stayed on the pitch. In other words, the sending off wasn't pivotal in the slightest, not to anyone of sane mind anyway....

We didn’t lose the game before what? We were 3-1 down when jack was sent off right?? (I only tuned in halfway)

we’re on course for an historically low points total. We’ve got 5 points from a third of a season. We have by far and away the worst goal difference in the league before today. We’ve scored what, 10 goals, in 12 games? Worst ever premier league start for saints. Manager with Worst win record in the prem for Southampton ever I believe…

from what perspective does it look better?

Rasmus releasing a new book doubling down about breaking what wasn't broken.

Wouldn’t put it past Rasmus to have Amazon doing a documentary. If SR want to outshine the Sunderland Till I Die documentary in gallows humour and staggering lack of self-awareness, they are well on course.

My worry is that sacking Martin isn't going to keep us up, therfore what will it really achieve in the medium term, given the big re set which will come in the summer anyway, because let's face it. We ain't staying up, even though our best eleven are really not a million miles off it, without the suicide football.

We all know that we aren't staying up, we will be relegated no matter what.  This is not about preserving our premiereship status, it's about preserving the dignity and self respect of the club.

We are currently an absolute embarrassment of a supposed professional football club, we are totally and utterly non competitive.

I was at the Brighton game. We played pretty good in the second half - but they should’ve been out of sight in the first half

So that's probably about the score we expected?

I saw again several serious errors that cost us against a vastly superior team.

But:

1. There's less tippy tappy in the past few games.

2. We are breaking out of defence and into the opponents final third in the last few games much more quickly than previously.

3. We did get into scoring positions on several occasions.

4. I think the players are still playing for the manager.

5. Without the mistakes I think we would be out of the relegation zone. We do have some good players.

5. Overall we haven't had much luck with VAR.

6. That Northam end sounded loud again.

7. Despite this I fear we're doomed.

That's absolutley the case. The decisions made now and in January should not be tailored to 'keeping us up', that's gone - done, finished.

We need to start putting in a plan for next season and how we exactly expect to pull together a competitive side at that level. That should be the priority from now on in. Sadly the rest of this season is just friendly matches.

No doubt I'll get my standard Saints shirt for Christmas from the wife. If it has Jack Stephen's name on the back I'll stick it up her bumhole.

Then mail the shirt to Gregg Wallace to make his year worse. 😜

And pride, plus beating Derby’s ‘record’. Something to make us all give some form of shit again.

If you throw bullshit at bullshitters it is bound to stick, hence why the manager stays in a job. CLUELESS BUNCH OF LOSERS RUNNING AND MANAGING OUR CLUB. I expected us to finish last, but thought we might ruffle one or two feathers during the season, the only people having their feathers rruffled are us the fans.

You can be critical without totally destroying someone in public.

Bottom line is that Captain Jack has let the club down badly on more than one occasion.

It’s simply not acceptable and shouldn’t be presented any other way.

I guarantee if Salah gets sent off for violent misconduct after 30 minutes at the weekend that Arne Slot won’t say afterwards ‘Ah he’s been so good for the club, it doesn’t matter. Poor lad.’.

Will do his worst behind closed doors, as is right, but he won’t brownose him, very senior player or not.

Good manager v piss weak one.

Possibly but in no way was the sending off (as Martin puts it) a turning point.

Chelsea is a billion pound team so wasn't expecting a result. Still, tonight was just sad. After okish performances vs Liverpool and Brighton, we again lose the plot by making the same mistakes again and again. What is being done on the training ground?

In all other industries, if you don't perform for months on end, you get the sack. No matter what you achieved previously.

No idea if another manager would want to take on our lot but something has to give.

Felt sorry for the attending fans...

Broadly agree with all that, that but the attending fans are going to need to turn the dissent volume button up x10 otherwise it won’t get on TV and rub SR’s nose in it. SR probably think they’re doing really well. In reality, Rupert Lowe outperformed and that is some low/lowe point of reference.

I think any player who picks up two red cards in the same season should be banned from professional football for life. And so should their manager and club owner for paying their wages.

Victor did in Ronald’s second season IIRC. Once at Norwich and can’t recall the other one. Was it in Denmark?

Ah Groundhog Day again, another mistake at the back , can we have a new betting game, which minute the first howler that leads to a goal will be , at least gives us something to look forward to every game

enough is enough , this pissing around tippy tappy , it’s not going to be long before we get another record, lowest points total.
what a disaster this is , the biggest supported club in the southern area and we get served this dog shit week in week out.

Well on a positive note i thought archer looked decent tonight and with him and Adam Armstrong up front we will have enough goals to come back up. Money generated from dibbling ferdy ramsdale and THB will fund a promotion bid. Shame really as i think we have enough to be competitive if we cut out the tippy tippy bollox at the back.

There are at least two or three bad mistakes in every single game we play over 95 minutes. This is enough to beat us every time in the Premier League. Occasionally it’s okay for us to win 4-3 in the Championship. But it’s still shit. And the style of play is not exciting enough to merit what Martin says of it. It’s not entertaining. It’s terrible. Frictionless. Naive. We need a team and a manager to have more backbone. And in a way we need to build this in via the next window for getting back up next year. And we need to jettison this stupid ideology which does not work. End of story. PS Stephens should be shot.

I expected a walloping tonight and was unfortunately bang on the money.
We started off well but then got undone by two poor goals, down to Lumley.
However he made some decent saves after and we were fortunate that the woodwork and some poor finishing from Chelsea prevented a massacre.
Playing out from the back just doesnt work for us as we dont have the right calibre of player.
My ratings, for what they are worth:
LUMLEY               - 6/10
First goal was down to him whilst the second was forced upon him by the Managers insistence in playing out from the back>
To his credit he made some decent saves
BREE                     - 6/10
Reasonable performance especially when down to 10 men.
WOOD                  - 5.5/10
Steady performance defensively but not confident with the ball at his feet.
STEPHEN              - 0/10
Speaks for itself
KWP                       - 7/10
Excellent going forward and put in his usual 100% performance. Will be missed next season. Some team will get a bargain Free Transfer.
ARIBO                     - 7/10
Thought he had one of his better games and in the right place to score his goal.
FRASER                  - 5/10
He ran around a bit but created little.
MANNING               - 6.5/10
One of the many Championship level players in the squad bur have to give him credit for keeping going and making a goal preventing tackle in the second half.
FERNANDES           - 7.5/10
Thought he was our stand out player. Very decent display and another who wont be around next season.
ARMSTRONG           - 5.5/10
Another Championship level player out of his depth tonight.
ARCHER                   - 6.5/10
Did OK but let himself down in the first half by getting forward well and dithered in the Chelsea box and a\ decent chance was missed.
SUBS
None of them added anything to the game.
However I have to say that Brereton Diaz looked like someone who had won a competition and was awarded the opportunity to get on the field of play for a few minutes. He was that bad.

Apart from Fernandez and KWP most of the team will be with us in the Championship next season.
Mid table at best I reckon unless a better Manager can be appointed and the recruitment of new players/loans is improved.

We”ll presumably not get a great deal more than what we still owe on THB and Ramsdale. Well make some good profit on MF and a big chunk on Dibling, but with the loss of PL income, we’ll do well to add very much to the remains of the squad I should think ?
