Thought we were good second half. We just need to get the ball to Fernandes and Dibling as quickly as we can. Sack off the tippy tappy crap and pass to your best players as much as possible.

Brighton had a poor second half so perhaps that's why we looked better. I agree with the tippy tappy rubbish. It drives me mad.

Reading it like that means that there’s no point in even having the ‘not interfering’ clause. Every single goal with a non-interfering player offside the keeper can claim they’ve been affected by that player.

Obviously that’s not the case, if Armstrong had been offside by the corner flag or even just a couple of yards the other side of Archer, the goal would have stood.

I reiterate; if that goal is given against us, every man and dog on this forum is screaming, "how the f**k is he NOT interfering!"

This is the point a lot seem to be missing. Without VAR, it would have been offside as that was the on field decision.

The issue for me is the length of time. Ridiculous. The Lino must have  flagged for AA (because if he hadn’t the ref would have been sent to monitor if VAR deemed interference), so therefore that was the only check required. If they think it’s not interfering then they need to draw the lines to check Archer. They did it arse about face, with the irrelevant decision taking the time.

you are missing the point fella.

But checking is why we have VAR. it was never offside. They just cannot seem to get it right. Championship you are correct we would have sucked it up old style and moaned when we saw it later. But checking and still disallowing it, what’s the point? 🤷🏽

Such a strange game. Played off the park in the first half but could have gone in level. How Downes didn’t get sent off I don’t know. So much better in the second half. I guess technically the goal was off side as Armstrong made an attempt to play the ball, but we had one of those against us allowed. I wonder what side we are going to field against Chelsea with so many players out?

Nope don’t agree. If that happened against us I would expect the goal to have stood. Especially if it was for a team in the top 6.

The goal has been given against us. Arsenal away.

Corrupt.

Also, while Sugawara was definitely at fault for their goal, I am pretty sure Martin was saying 'bounce' on camera and for the first time I agree with him, how is it with 3 centre backs there is no-one heading that off the penalty spot? If there's not one of them free standing right there waiting for it then something has gone seriously wrong even before Suga decided to have his 40 winks.

Merino didn’t get called offside for far more obvious interference in the Arsenal game for Martinelli’s goal.

Not forgetting the last minute Man City goal against Wolves!

Oh, and on the positive - Fernandes and Dibling are definitely £50 million+ players. They both have the odd rash mistake of youth in them but bloody hell they can play. Dibling made 'both' our goals and some of Fernandes' takes/turns + passing was as good as anyone I've seen in a Saints shirt.

Their keeper positioning himself to save a potential shot from Armstrong impacted his ability to save a shot at the far post.

Fuck sake, he would have done that anyway, even if Armstrong was onside. It's a load of shit. The keeper isn't Superman, he can't cover the whole fuckin goal.

Looking at it again, did AArm flick at the ball or was it just a result of him trying to stop quickly?

Just asking, before the I get piled on by kinesiology experts...

In real time when it happened I definitely thought he was trying to flick it with his heel as it went past. If he had just been running past his back foot would never have got up that high.

The fact they took over four or five minutes to look at it suggests to me they didn't even know themselves. Total farce. Arma didn't even touch the ball, the defender was in front of him for a start.

Yeah, have you ever seen a keeper stand at the back post when a cross is coming in?? No way is he saving Archers shot whether Armstrong is there or not.

If they were going to disallow the goal anyway because Armstrong tried to play the ball, why the fuck did they spend 5 mins trying to work out if Archer was offside? Total cunts

Exactly.

The time was taken deciding an irrelevant aspect of the goal.

They said he affected the keeper. Someone show me a replay that shows that, I’ll wait.

😂 You're the cunt that wanted to be a Brighton fan at half time

Most of that time was spent looking at Archer being offside. It was a valid point but was not offside. If he had been offside then they wouldn't have needed to look at the Armstrong action, which only took them a minute or less.

Excellent point for what it is worth, that does not detract from a shambolic first half when they should have been out of sight.

Yes, but there are times and many of them where we should have been out of sight and lost… that’s football.

I don’t often agree with Lego, but he’s 100% right about this decision. The obsession with the on field decision is hampering the usefulness of VAR. the VAR doesn’t decide whether AA affected the Brighton players, just whether it was clear and obvious that he didn’t. You end up with the on field officials making an error, with VAR backing up that error on the basis that it wasn’t too bad an error. Ridiculous

Photoshops slightly older Dibling face onto a Liverpool kit. What's his contract situation?

Not good - I think he's out of contract at the end of next season. Can anyone confirm that?

Also I get everyone moaning about the disallowed goal but Downes should've been sent off before half time.

Next time we moan about a ref remember Robert Jones went above and beyond to keep him on the pitch. Downes was absolutely cruising for it tonight.

That’s far too long. If they can’t decide within 40 seconds then it can’t be an obvious mistake, or as Howard Webb calls them ‘howlers’.

100%.

I mean the first half was the same shit we've seen all season, which he dared to defend. The guy needs to be real, had Brighton been on form they'd have been out of sight like fucking Bournemouth were against us.

But the second half was much much better and he's spot on about VAR. I'm actually more pissed off about VAR than the tactics ... a unique feeling.
