No, the worst case is 4/5-0 or worse thumping where our GD takes an absolute hammering. Some people need to get over this fantasy that we need a seven or eight goal thumping, so that we’d be forced to sack Russ and someone like Moyes can come in and 1-0 us to safety with 31% possession. People said all this stuff about Ralph two years ago, almost rejoicing in that 1-4 against Newcastle because it looked like we’d finally be forced to sack him. Look how that panned out.

It’s almost like that bears absolutely zero relevance to the current circumstances.

Yep. It's utter nonsense. Who one manager was replaced is of absolutely no relevance to who another manager may be replaced by. His point is made even worse given Ralph was replaced by someone who'd never managed at this level.

Comparing the appointment of Jones with the potential appointment of Moyes (and even turning his nose up at 1-0 wins) is one of the most stupid comparisons I’ve ever seen on this forum.

The worst thing today, is the feeling of absolute futility.

We know how our team will play, everyone does. We know it is not going to work, especially as we have lost our best player (Ramsdale) who, even in games where we have looked capable of getting something, has needed to be at his absolute best to keep us in it.

We lose, nothing changes.
We lose heavily, nothing will change.

We get anything out of the game? The crux of our problems will be front and centre and hailed by the media.

My prediction. Liverpool 4-0 Saints. And we will be lucky to have not conceded more.

I think you’ve both missed the point there. Hoping for us to get smashed so that we’re forced to sack the manager is a foolish endeavour and rarely works out well. I’m well aware that the managers in question were different two years ago, but however you want to dress it up the majority of people wanted Ralph sacked.

I always do hope Saints win. But the worst case is another 0-1 or 0-2 where Russell’s fluffers get to claim the referee cheated etc when Allison has read his Kindle all match and Liverpool meander along in first gear with Slot patting Russell’s head after the game.

Mind you, look what’s happened to the last big name manager who did that! He learned something alright - how to lose and and totally fold.

I just don't understand the wanting us to lose/get hammered mentality.

I can't stand Martin myself and thought he should have been binned after Bournemouth but would still rather us win than get a humping which wouldn't guarantee he gets sacked anyway.

The idea that were we to get a shock win today meaning we'd have 6/9 there'd people out there who'd be annoyed I just find totally alien.

Wins will be rare this season no matter who's in charge so I'll continue to hope for them and enjoy them if/when they come.

If that was really your point you wouldn't have mentioned Ralph. I want RM out asap, and as much as I don't want to see us humiliated, if that's what it takes to make the board do the right thing, then so be it.

Agree with this. Can't stand RM either. What I will find annoying is the fact that the Martin fanboys will be out in force bigging him up should we win.

How's sticking with RM working out for us? I make it 5 points adrift so far.

He should have gone in the International break. Why can't the bosses chose a decent manager?
Ralph was a proper manager and had a few good years without any support from the owners but since then we tried to make clever appointments giving an opportunity to little known guys. Its been a disaster and loaded the owner with huge contracts to pay up. Premier league players need a proven name they can look up to. So do I.

I’d quite like some much improved results, personally. I think it’s a tall order with the limited talent we have in this squad and I don’t think that a couple of absolute batterings in the hope that Moyes comes in (no guarantee in that) and saves us is particularly wise.

I mentioned Ralph because it’s literally what some people were wishing for two years ago.

The kids have a Christmas party today at 2:30 so I'll miss the game. Last time I missed the Liverpool match it finished 4-4, so perhaps a good omen.

But do you honestly think that will happen with RM in charge or are you just playing devil's advocate?

I personally think we're getting worse not better... I was optimistic after the Ipswich game but my optimism was unfounded. The Everton result papered over the cracks and otherwise we just don't look like we know how to win a football match.

4-3-3 with Fraser at full-back?

Having McCarthy, Stephens and Fraser as part of your defence in the Premier League is truly incredible.

Nice to see Onuachu get a start, but I'd have sooner seen that against Wolves where we had a semblance of a chance.

2012/13 first season back. Nige's team on Pard's return 25/11/12.

Gazzaniga, Clyne, Yoshida, Fonte, Shaw, Schneiderlin, Ramirez, Cork, Lallana, Puncheon, Lambert. How do we reckon that team stands up net to our current lot?

Ryan Fraser playing LB when we've got Manning, Sugawara and Taylor available. What the actual fuck?

Salah must be rubbing his hands together

Yep, looks that way. Picking Fraser to mark Salah is as mental a selection as I can remember for a long time. Crazy.

It worked so well when we subbed him on at wing-back against Leicester that we had to give it another go.

Ryan Fraser

At left back

Up against Mo Salah.

What could possibly go wrong?

Is Russ trying to beat the 9-0 record or something? That is truly fucking astounding.

He's been completely frozen out and I can't think of any reason other than disciplinary.

Yeah he hasn't been seen for a while. Can only assume a falling out - performance wise he's been pretty solid.

Manning was terrible last season and seemed to play all the time but oddly he's defended better this season yet is brought in and out of the side. Who knows with RM.

That's quite some tombola machine that Russ has. I don't suppose Liverpool were expecting that line up.

I doubt Russ was expecting it either until the tombola numbers fell that way. Takes the stress out of team selection I guess.

Unless it's like a three with walker Peters, Stephens and THB, then Dibling and fraser wing backs.

Dibling at wing back would be even sillier than Fraser as a full back. Anything is possible though.

So many questions;

Why Fraser?

Why Tall Paul randomly?

Why no CB on the bench?

Why not play a natural LB at LB?

Where is Taylor? Cornet? EDWARDS? Wood? Summer window showing more and more as a shite window.

If you have to move KWP back to RB, why not play Manning (on the bench) at LB?
