2-0 down to the worst team in the league, then the next load of games are against top six teams. No good going on about bad decisions. Shouldn’t have been 1-0 down in the first place should have scored more , obviously.
twice in the last couple of minutes no one up front to pass to.

I don't think Wolves are the worst team in the league. They have had the toughest away games in their history at the start of this season so have a reason for being down in the basement. Gary O'Neil is a better manager than RM too. Look closer to home for the worst team. Sadly.

  • This is football - great observation Russ, I mistakenly though it was tennis.
  • All about how we respond - maybe, but we won't respond in a positive manner.
  • We wanted to dominate the ball, but started really badly - does ball domination (ooh err) lead to wins, not on the evidence of the current season.
  • We limited them to 8 shots but lost 2-0 - and they limited us to zero
  • we need to do more with the ball in the final 3rd - so why don't we? You're the manager, do you address this in training, tactics and team selection?
  • There were a few interesting referee decisions, but I cannot blame that - but you do, see below.
  • But we had so much of the ball - again, is that the aim of the game?
  • My feeling is that it was not a foul for the disallowed goal, maybe even a penalty - we agree!
  • I did not see if it was a foul for their 2nd goal - I did and it was a clear foul on Archer. The type that's given 10-15 times per game.
  • It was disappointing, but we should do more ourselves. - every game has been disappointing, why is that Russ. What are you doing to fix that?

Lots of possession following another very early conceded goal. We did have an effort offside from a VAR review. Stung, we knuckled down and responded by ... not laying a glove on them.

Plenty of possession, with nothing at the end of it. Some of our passing looks nice, but that's mostly just to get it clear from our own third, from where it breaks down.

Along with the possession and the VAR, Martin will think that Archer got fouled for the second.

Following that, Wolves had a spell where they pressed our defence. We folded under that pressure. So much for our ability to use the gaps to generate our own attacks.

Wolves were much closer to a third than we were to getting a goal back. Martin brought on in teasingly attacking subs. More by rote than with any real plans of what to do with them.

We've picked up a couple of worst ever records today for club and league. Sadly, you can see why.

Totally bored with this team, there's nothing to get behind and nothing about us at all. All this talk of process and philosophy is fluff for not being good enough.

Last week was just as bad, we won, but it was very poor. I struggle at this stage to see where this season starts, it's just going to be a really big test for us fans as we are on the highway to a humiliation season without a doubt.

Today was as bad as it's been this season, against another truly terrible side. We are just a pointless team to watch.

Relegation is pretty much confirmed at this point, we just need to make sure we don't set any unwanted records. That's the only target we can realistically have now. I'm not even looking above 20th because it's pointless.

We can sack the manager if we want, but it'll make no difference because SR's decision making doesn't belong on earth.

We have to prepare for next season and having this clown in charge is not the way to do it. (Well it is nearly pantomime season)

My pal is a Wolves fan was at Molineux and I think his message to me sums it up.

”Mate, you did tell me but oh my God. Saints were awful. Sorry”.

then

”a good side would have absolutely thrashed you today”.

Not much point in sacking Martin, it’s prob too late to attract a manager who will keep us up now. Potter would be mental to take over this shit show when better offers will come along (West Ham for instance). Moyes would really struggle with this squad as well, his style of keeping it tight that hitting the opposition on the break wouldn’t work.
Really sad how far we have fallen in recent years.

Sometimes I wish I could stop caring about this football club. Losing 3-2 would have been easier to stomach, knowing we showed a bit of fight, but no. Another limp dick display where possession over substance was the aim, and we’ve allowed the other worst team in the league to win comfortably and keep a clean sheet.

Genuinely wish we didn’t get promoted last season. Fucking Leeds would have had a better go at it than us.

Martin made a comment at the end of his BBC presser saying “It is what it is”.

Interpret that as either he’s not arsed, he’s not concerned, he knows he’s inevitably going.

Couldn’t give a monkeys what he’s got to say.  Bloke is full of it.

Not saying Martin shouldn't be sacked, but do you have any trust in SR getting the next call right? They seemingly don't have a clue.

Jones - horrendous.

Selles - An unimaginative gamble

Martin - load of fluff. We were fortunate to be promoted, he didn't rip up any trees or set any special culture - as this season is proving.

Who is next in their horror show of choices? I don't even want to imagine.

I’ll be watching the game from Florida, hopefully, looking forward to the 10am kick off so if it goes belly up I can go and hang out with Mickey Mouse in the afternoon.

I’m actually going to go and beat him up, just to make me feel better. That poxy mouse is everywhere I go.
But then I fear my wife will attack me in retaliation😂

Had much the same from a Brentford supporting friend earlier in the season. He was just bemused by how crap and slow our play was, basically said they've never felt less threatened by a team since they've been in the PL.

I agree to a point but we have to at least try - Martin needs to be sacked today and we must ditch this ridiculous possession based football because it is no more than one man's vanity project and he's proved he cannot make it work.

So at what point will there be a point in sacking a manager who is taking the piss with his vanity project?

There's nothing to really try for at this stage. We'll go into Dec on 4 points.

We are realistically going to need to accrue 30-40 points in around half a season. Absolute impossibility, that's what Man City and co will be doing. We've already tossed away the Leicester and Ipswich home games, the Wolves away game etc - the list will go on.

This is true, keep sacking the managers but need to look at who is appointing them

If he isn’t gone by Monday then the board have totally lost it, nothing has changed he isn’t learning from his mistakes. It’s like a toddler that just keeps trying to smash the square block into the round hole and never learns.  How can we go two nill down and still be content to play the ball round and round in circles in our own half the tactics are a joke even with ten minutes to go we still don’t actually go forward with any urgency.  Thanks for the play off final Russ now fuck off out of our club you absolute tosser.

He did mention the possession figures tbf! I tried telling him that’s all that matters and, really, we won the numbers game. He wasn’t having it though, strangely.

We are the best possession team in premier league history we can dominate the ball like no other sadly we just don’t have a fookin clue what to do with it and the manager seemingly hasn’t realised that points are won by winning games which means you actually need to put the ball in the big white net down the other end, he really is a clueless fukwit.

That's tough on you, having pals that just don't understand football. Some folk just don't get it and obsessed about points and shots on target.

Even Donald Trump has weighed in on Truth Social!

"Look, Southampton fans—I get it, you’re frustrated. You want results, you want wins, and I don’t blame you, okay? But Russell Martin? He’s doing big things with this possession style. Beautiful, controlled football. Now, I know a little something about winning, alright? Maybe mix it up a bit, throw in some quick counters—catch the opposition off guard, believe me, it works. But give Russell a chance! He’s got the ideas, he’s got the vision, and I know he can deliver. Stick with him. Great things are coming for Southampton, folks. You're gonna love it. Huge turnaround, I guarantee it."

I was at the game today. What I did note was that the outfield players only warmed up for 15 minutes on the turf. I know we lost FD pre KO. It just struck me as quite odd and a little unprofessional. The coach took as long putting out the cones

worst performance of the season ?  No shots on target, and most of the 71% possession was in our own half.

Many times we had the bad bounce of the ball, and Wolves were harder in the tackle, yet we got the yellow cards,

I wasn't encouraged to see several Wolves players... joking with the referee during injury pauses....and

he didn't do us any favours either.    The upcoming fixtures are mostly against top 8 sides incl. Liverpool TWICE.

Needs a miracle of sorts now, so do we stick or twist with RM ?  I wouldn't want to be a new manager taking over

a team at the bottom who are already brainwashed into " Russ ball ",  and not scoring goals.

Don't think we can say that RM has lost the dressing room, but a new guy coming in and trying to change the formation

won't have much time to reconstruct everything.   Remember Nathan Jones.' chaotic attempts to improve on Ralph's ideas.

The real question is : Are there any better quality, unemployed managers hanging around at the Job Centre?

Highly unlikley, and if we end up with a former L1 manager trying his luck at the big time, we won't improve.

Sports Republic. Sold every Southampton manager they've employed down the fucking river by throwing shit at a wall and hoping it will stick.

Russell Martin, taking the Man City style and applying it to Championship squads.

A simply divine combination.
