Armstrong after that goal means along with Jack that 2 starting spots are occupied each game. Martin needs to learn that we are better when we use less passes and aim to get up the pitch quickly. Unfortunately, most of the time we have to put up with his vanity project. Why will he refuse to admit we are a better side with fast attacks involving more vertical passing? It's so frustrating.

derry
Delighted with the win. The break for the goal was brilliant and cut Everton to pieces. Armstrong hit that perfectly coming in on his right foot and bending it away from the unsighted keeper. Fernandes was the best player on the field. Young should have gone for pushing the ball into his face. We were hanging on at the end. We played the ball around quicker in the first half and Archer made a couple of good breaks. All that game proved for me is the passing around really achieves very little. As with the Leicester game it was the full backs breaking quickly and getting in behind that opened up the defence. The back three defended well, however Stephens gave the ball away stupidly as he does. We defended better with the three centre backs. Going to two made us more vulnerable but led to the goal. That offside was too close for comfort.

Midfield_General
Sometimes the gods are just with you. The one off the bar, the gnat's chuff offside, the Ramsdale wonder save. How many times do we get all those going for us? In truth we were poor, but a win's a win, and it was a lovely goal. Let's also not gloss over the fact that they were in decent form, unbeaten in their last five games. Now need to go and spawn another one at Wolves. obelisk
Thought Everton were poor for much of that game but easily kept Saints at arms length. Yet again Saints seemed to run out of puff and our opponents recognised it was time to step things up a bit. For the last 15 minutes or so Everton could have won that game at a canter but today the luck was with Saints. With that first win I'm hoping Saints can relax a bit and that RM can be somewhat more pragmatic with the "process".

Micky
I don't know what to say. We won, but we were pretty awful to be honest, and we had huge slices of luck throughout the game. Without the luck Everton would've won easily. Not sure where you go after a performance like that, no doubt the manager will wax lyrical over bravery and possession, but I'm afraid I'm unconvinced. Maybe if we go away to Wolves next week and actually win again, I may start to convert. I guess it's a bit shyte when your aspirations and 'targets' are simply trying to overhaul the worst Premiere League records ever set. Saint Fan CaM
Can’t believe the Board will be pulling the plug on the Russ project until at least he’s had a go at a win versus Wolves. However, if he tries to once again work against the natural ability in his squad he will lose that game and then all bets are off. Today was a lucky but welcome win. Nobody in their right mind would wish a loss for their own team, but on todays evidence there every chance we’ll lose the next match. The big question is whether 3 points from 6 will be enough to convince SR to keep their faith in Russ. My guess is it will.

HarvSFC
I feel like I'm in the minority here, but I thought Everton were awful today and we controlled the ball much better. Of course in Russell Martin's way, but for the most part we also kept them at arms length. You worry about Calvert-Lewin before a game, think he'd be perfect for a Dyche team, but really he only had a good run of form under Ancelotti and he was rubbish today, did nothing. The goal came from what I was calling for earlier in the week. Break quickly when gaining the ball back and exploit the space left by the opposition, which Sugawara did. We're a team of passers, pick out players in good positions with those passes. I thought Armstrong was dreadful until his goal. Every time he tried to do anything other than pass sideways and backwards, he lost possession. Also shoutout for Manning, who when in a good position with plenty of space in the box, seemed to fall over the ball, allowed Everton to get back and ended up giving away a foul. Good players were Walker-Peters, again one of three players (Dibling and Fernandes the other two) in our team who can beat a man with the ball and bring a bit of excitement to the team. Bednarek, I thought he did very well today, the standout of the three centre-backs as he intercepted a load of attacks. Fernandes, quality again. Archer, I thought he was lazy earlier in the season, but his work rate up top today was very good and caused a couple of issues. Dibling, our best and most exciting player is an 18 year old. Caused loads of problems when he was allowed to run at the Everton defence. Ramsdale, well deserved clean sheet. I also bemoan Stephens starting every week, but I think we looked a fair bit more fragile when he went off. Anyway, hopefully this is the turning point of the season. Lets go on a 25 game unbeaten run now. Up the Saints.

It used to be entertaining anyone that stepped over the mark was warned then blocked. Now the vocal minority can abuse and bully anyone that supports RM can’t be bothered to look for it know but some idiot was criticising fans when they celebrated the winning goal at Stoke .
