Saints 3-2 Stoke - Match Thread

Winnable game, for a change, with the reward of a cup QF but certainly hasn’t gripped the fans. Looking like well under 20k tonight and loads of empty seats in the Chapel alongside the away fans, thought all those missing the “bantz” may have taken advantage of that.

Around 800 Stoke making the trip, so their chants will be echoing through the empty Kingsland for a bit of atmosphere.

I, four one, am stoked for tonight's soccerball encounter.  St Mary's will be rocking, we will have a full strength team out.  The passing will be slick, precise and productive.

Providing the light show goes off without a hitch I'm forecasting a 5 to nothing home run for the Southampton Saints.

COYR.

Just realised this comes exactly a decade after we faced them in the same round of the League Cup at their place.

Pelle's no-look top-bins goal from 25 yards... Long's first Saints goal... Crouch going mental and getting sent off. What a night.

Bloody miss Koeman's squad.

Just looking at that subs bench in the opening seconds... its depressing how far we've fallen since then. Massive shout out to Reed, Gao, and now SR. Absolutely criminal decline.

I wasn't able to travel this time,  but my son.. and two grandsons have travelled over and will watch the game this evening.

That's 4th generation Saints fans in our family.    My late father was a big fan in the pre-and-post WW2 era.

Top effort that, all the way from Sweden just for the Stoke game or treating themselves to a double header with Everton?

Christ, what would that side do to Russel’s boys!

A chance for us to book a place in the quarter finals tonight- 2-0 to us Cornet and Onuachu to score - COYR 😊

That would be great for morale. I think Tall Paul would score a few given more opportunities.

Would like to see Cornet, Lesley and Paul given a good go.

All players that if at their best could make a difference, but underwhelmed so far

I'm not sure Lesley is the big physically imposing midfielder we thought we were getting

At least it's not 5 at the back.

JS to the bench - surprised.

Bree over Taylor, and no KWP - hmmm.

Fraser and AArma either side of Archer - doesn't scream 'potent' to me.

Wood not Edwards (no ABK) - righto.

Arma who scored nearly 30 games in the Championship, and Archer who scored a hatful when he had a season in there too? Seems pretty potent to me.

I would've started Taylor over Bree and SAA over Fraser. I fear SAA might become another Meghoma if he continues to see minimal amount of minutes, especially in the cup against lower league competition and SAA has definitely shown in the past he has talent. Thought he should have cemented his place as a cup winger following his performance against Cardiff.

No issues with Archer; I like him. For a lower league opponent presumably AArma and Fraser have enough about them. Neither are close to prem quality though.

Relatively strong line-up so happy with that. Would've liked to have seen Dibling let loose against lower league opposition but I guess he's being protected from over-exposure given his age.

ABK must have really pissed someone off!  Caught with Lucy maybe?

ABK is not in our plans and clearly hasn’t been for a long time, I’m not sure why you were hoping for/expecting anything different tonight. I’m not sure what this forum’s obsession with Lucy is all about either.

Personally, I think that’s a decent side which should have too much for Stoke.

I think so, got some tough treatment at City.

You've hit the nail on the head, just like ABK has been caught hitting Russell's bird round the back of the Staplewood bins. Word on the street is that Pinder has never seen a cock like it, never had one up her like it either, there is no going back to Martin's slimdick after what she's experienced.

"I just can't go back to Russ and his never ending foreplay" is a direct quote from both Lucy after getting in the shitter from ABK and a tired Saints fan after watching us at the weekend.

I've not seen any news around injuries etc.

Downes - guessing still carrying the injury from Saturday.

Dibling - presumably rested (a sensible move).

Taylor - presumably still not quite in the good books.

KWP - has he got a knock?

Is SAA playing against Leipzig, which might have impacted his appearance for the first team.

SAA seems to have dropped a long way down the pecking order. Like this team, though still think TP/Archer up front should be given a try.

Don't know the Stoke players at all but my money is on >3 for Saints

Your challenging everything everyone says 'schtick' is almost MLG-esque. Bravo! ;)

Corrected it there as Semmens needs to be in there. He engineered the sales to Gao and SR, and was very much driving the wheel and the vehicle straight into the ditch. Kat as well who wanted as much money as possible out of it all.
