Interesting. He's contracted until 2027, so the club can make a decision that suits them. But with us destined for the championship, the player might well be interested.

Right now he's just not built to stop Mo Salah or a similarly powerful PL winger/LWB in full flight, and may never be. Maybe we don't want to gamble on him having the required growth spurt AND be willing to sign a new contract AND deliver on that early promise. Maybe that is just too many risks.

Plus if that ~£7m of profit allows us to keep Fernandes next season (or Ramsdale) then for me it will be worth it.

Yes, I’ll settle for the SAA sale, and for that matter a big price sale of Dibling in the summer, if it means we could keep Fernandes, and even Ramsdale.   Fernandes staying (against the odds) greatly increases the prospect of automatic promotion next season.

I thought that’s the angle he was taking.

Interestingly the club rolled over and had their belly tickled on this and didn’t fight it. A fair few other high ranking individuals from other cat 1 clubs and an individual previously at Double Pass (who use to audit the EPPP) thought they would win any legal case (including my ex boss).  

One of the many gripes I have, I won’t lie. 

Other PL and EFL clubs have already ‘allegedly’ spoken to the Uni about being given first option if the ruling relaxes in the next cycle.

Although FA rules dictated that young players must live within a 90-minute commute of their team, Southampton were granted special dispensation by the Premier League to open a satellite site in Bath due to the port city's coastal location with the sea taking up half of their catchment radius.

 

However, after pressure from the Premier League and EFL to shut down the centre due to it being outside their catchment, which intensified following the Saints' relegation from the top-flight in 2023, the closure has now been finalised with no more young players being taken on.

Those already enrolled in the programme will go on full-time up to under-16s out of Beechen Cliff School in Bath until they finish their studies. Players are also receiving support to transition to other academies, which could be at City or Rovers

Torn on whether I want Bednarek to go or not. On the one hand he’s clearly a decent Championship defender and will be useful next season. On the other, I’m just so f**king sick of watching him put in consistently sub-standard performances, season after season. He’s been the avatar for our atrocious recruitment since 2016.

So would I. However from the club's point of view, Bednarek would bring in much more of a fee than Stephens would.

I'm all for him going, and the rest of them. Full reset needed - twice now Bednarek and co have shat themselves in the Premier League. If offered fees now for players, I'd take them and then more in the summer and see where we are at with a new DoF in Spors (if that goes through), and more lessons learned (ik they say that every 6 months or so, but still, let's see what Dragan cooks up I guess?)

Squad is huge too.

Bit extreme. He cost us a whopping £5m and while his attitude and performances have been lacking at times during his 7/8 years here, it hasnt been a bad return (even just for last season alone).

The Strasbourg guy is supposedly good, the defender, he has been advised by Liverpool related someones to come to us. I don't know about Bednarek, but maybe it's an in and out

The other guy is a random, the striker. Apparently he runs very fast

Harsh narrative imo. He cost relative peanuts, is a polish international, and has been here for many years now - he's put in some good seasons in that time under ralph / martin (i.e., promotion) that make up for the fee. Surely the real reason you're directing your ire at him is because we've spent tens of millions on defensive players since and its all been pissed away (i.e., bednarek is still the best we've got 🤣) - but that isn't bednarek's fault.

Exactly he’s a good player and rated by plenty of others outside the club, an international as well. He clearly cares about the club and would rather we kept him as he’s just signed an extension hasn’t he

As others have said he cost £5m 8 years ago as a young prospect and has played over 200 time for the club. He’s not the best player but to hail him as an avatar for crap recruitment is as absurd and your rigorous defence of Russell Martin

And Ely, Vestergaard and Hoedt. All of who, plus Carrillo and Stewart cost far more than Jan and probably less games than him combined.

After Bednarek and Villa I never wanted to see him in a Saints shirt again but he redeemed himself with last year performances and not been our worst defender this year.

With Wood, THB, Stephens injured and ABK not getting on with 2 injured in a game can we sell him now?

But wasn’t it pointless as teams like united started to fly players in which extended the distance to which they could argue that they were within the rules.

Do Newcastle have an academy, and if so do they have a similar dispensation as you go a very long way out into the North Sea if you travel 90 minutes East of St James' Park.

Surely Udoh signing for the u21s initially (as per Alfie House), has no bearing on Cameron Archer leaving at all?

I am trying not to write him off but the comments from fans seeing him play point to pace but no end product.

I have absolutely no faith in our recruitment so nothing surprises me anymore
