Chez Posted 6 hours ago Posted 6 hours ago 36 minutes ago, BARCELONASAINT said: In general i would totally agree with you. However my son is a football agent in South America and the stories he tells me about agents that really do not have their players welfare at heart and just look for a big potential payday. My son will not move any player on his books to a club (or recommend it to the player) unless he genuinely believes the move will long term benefit the player. Doesn't surprise me, but as you will know then, it's not really the job of the agent to have the players `welfare at heart', it is their job to maximise the players earnings by negotiating the best contracts and commercial deals, help to get the player a move to another club if his wishes or needs it, while also presenting opportunities/clubs that the player hasn't specfically requested but may choose if they desire. Ultimately, the welfare, performance and longevity of a player will help the earnings potential of the player (and thus the agent), so they won't ignore it, but agents aren't their to hold the players hand, they are there to make them richer. Players dont even need an agent. The PFA can and do provide lawyers to handle contract negotiations if a player so chooses. Players take an agent because they know they will get them a great deal. Despite what you say about your son, and that is commendable, agents also don't actually know if a move will benefit a player in the long term or not. Take Bale or more recently Djed Spense. Both got a massive offer from Spurs to play in the PL. But Bale's move looked like it was a shocker at one point, with Bagpuss looking to offload him to Cardiff until he had an injury crisis...and then the rest was history. Spense's move to Spurs similary looked to be a nightmare, but more recently he has impressed for them. One things for sure, financially the moves made sense for both players - and that is what the agents is responsible for. In Dibling's case, his agent will present the options available. He isnt going to flatly refuse to hear (and pass on) offers from Liverpool because he thinks Dibling might end up in the reserves. The decision on which he takes will be down to the player.

IMO, MLG has autistic-like skills, as you all well know. Your viewpoint to him is just as hard to understand as his is to you. Show some understanding and compassion please. MLG has said he read the whole of gio’s post before highlighting what he sees as a contradiction in its text. You either see the contradiction or you don’t; it’s not the end of the world either way. Just accept he has a right to see it as he does. I wrote about that type of thing a couple of days ago on another thread. It does not seem to have had much effect. Hence this post, which I hope you will consider in the spirit I intend. As some of us see it, at present this is beginning to become bullying again. Let it be. Just seen MLG’s latest post re an offer to Reading - we do like to collect left backs! 5

He looks confident. Very hard from the video to determine how good a player he is. Pretty impressive for a 17 year old, but no chance he is PL level yet. I guess the question is, is he going to push for a first team place next season or is that too early?

We signed 3 young left backs for a combined fee of about £12m, only Larios played in the premier league and that was 3 years ago. Small left for nothing, Meghoma for about £5m and Larios is further away from the first team than he was when he joined. £12m could get you a half decent left back who would play. 4

I’d actually even be impressed if he did well there for a string of games without one of his trademark horror shows, and as anyone who posts on here knows, Gavin is firmly in my worst ever XI. Chez has Ian Andrews in it, pays your money takes your choice.

Yes, when you look at the LB issue in the round it’s not good even if one transaction made a modest profit. Especially for a club that’s had Peach, Dennis, Statham, Bridge, Bale, Shaw and Bertrand in that position. 1

The agencies don't want people to stay in one job / one place and are always 'encouraging' job changes as that's when they get paid. However I do get it in the context of that first big contract for players - as at that level it basically gives you 'f*** off' amounts of money which means if you manage it well you won't have to work again. I did some work in Canada in the 80’s and the company I worked for used a head hunter to find the people they needed. Of course that head hunter then had a catalogue of people whom he had helped to find jobs and continued to find further jobs for them with other companies.

We're not 'only' interested in turning a profit on players, there's far more to running a PL club than that. We're not celebrating, you've made that up. We don't get, "pleasure from what the player does on the pitch," unless the club is run in a financially stable and responsible way. We're not just trying, "to make a few mill on cheapo players," trading on players is part of the process and we've spent plenty on expensive flops along the way. Decent signings will leave pretty much every club in the world, apart from maybe Real, City, Barca and Bayern. I refer you to point two on Dibling/MF. Who is cheering?

In reply to 4 and 5 I generally believe we are The most unambitious club in the league the players you call expensive flops are not expensive in comparison to the rest of the league which is what matters .. also we are absolutely soft as shit when it comes to selling players it’s like we accept our role as a stepping stone club .. whee you look the likes of West Ham’s or even forest and Bournemouths transfer dealings you can see why they are now looking at us in their rear view We have basically pretty much stood still in terms of how much we spend on a big signing whilst the likes of the three mentioned above would happily double what we pay or more .. the lack of ambition reflects our position I’m afraid Edited 1 hour ago by pimpin4rizeal
