Have heard a deal sheet went in from Russell Martin for Jack Stephens at wherever he next manages in the next 24 months. Currently looking uncertain if it’ll go through this window.

Um,no. I stopped thinking it mattered after your fuckin hero Martin wasn't sacked after the Bournemouth game.

This would be somewhat more believable if you weren't in every match thread getting irate at various things including tactics, managers and referee decisions. Quite happy to see Armstrong leave, hope it works out well for him we just have a different opinion on what we want to watch over the next couple of months.

Is this the end between Saints and Arma? If so it’s a bit of a sad way to end. He clearly wanted out given the number of clubs linked today.

From a survival point of view, yes I don't think it matters, and hasn't mattered for a long time. Still doesn't stop me from wanting my team to win. The season is a write off, whatever happens on the pitch over the next few months is pretty much irrelvant now.

This has been my take since he arrived, but I don’t really see how the transfer window has either reinforced this or changed anything.

Given our league position we were unlikely to spend big (by our standards), and you can’t criticise the club for that stance. Had Juric overseen an upturn in form and  won four or five of his matches so far we could have been in with a shout of staying up, and perhaps we’d have dug deeper to spend( Not blaming Juric for that by the way).

Just beat Derby’s record before we switch off completely though

How have you jumped to that conclusion? It makes little sense going on a spending spree now. We did that in January 2023 and it was a financial disaster.

This time we are even more adrift and spending now before the new sporting director is appointed lumbers him with players he may not want. We are down, may as well keep powder dry until Johannes Spors arrives and we rebuild in the summer.

I see nothing wrong with sending Arma back to a level he can compete at. Let him gain some momentum ahead of him being useful again next season.

Would like to see him back next season with us in the Championship but realistically if his loan has gone through then I’d be surprised if he came back, or wanted to.

I don’t think that’s true though. The owner has just announced changes from the top so positions are on notice. You have a manager to motivate that publicly you’ve said you want to keep. Players that some of you might be trying to keep and convince that coming back up with us is their best way of playing PL football in 2 years time. By all accounts last summer the club spent a lot of time trying to motivate a squad that was so demoralised and create a good atmosphere again. Does it really want to go through all that again? I think ending this season somewhat competitively can be a boost towards next season and do some of that work automatically. Anyway, hopefully we’ll do that anyway even if we haven’t necessarily helped ourselves in the market in two vital areas.

Would have liked to have seen Archer go to Leeds with an obligatory buy if promoted clause. Great opportunity to recover our outlay, £18m or whatever it was.

I thought that in Dragan's recent radio interview he confirmed that its an 18 month contract with Juric and he'll be here next season (not that a football chairman's word is worth much of course)

In all honesty, it wouldn't bother me if two thirds of this year's squad was moved on. It won't happen as we aren't going to find buyers for most of the crap we have assembled. We need a major re-build on and off the pitch.

All these folks convincing themselves that Juric won't be here next season may be in for a shock this summer, I suggest. Of course, if we get do in fact hire some shit hot DoF, they may come in with aspirations of bringing in one of their guys. But on the presumption that doesn't happen, I think SR are relatively settled on him.

Roll on next season. Solak has moved Ankersen and Kraft to more peripheral roles now where they are not actively in the day-to-day, so let's just hope that Dragan picks a couple of good operators now and they can take things forward from the end of May

Kraft has been ousted, but unless I missed it I haven't heard anything similar about Ankersen, unfortunately. ITK?

Plus we've bunged our struggling french sister club 5Million smackeroos to get them climbing up the table. Its all coming together, you've just got to think long term!!!

Well given the rip roaring success of our summer transfers it’s probably just as well we didn’t get anyone else to stink the place out.

The club have really backed Juric but with 31 squad players and some real stupid buys like Fraser and 10 minute Lallana it’s not a surprise.

its the hope that kills you at Saints!

i know you jest but most of those were sub appearances with little minutes left, he has scored a lot for their junior team in the 3rd div there so looks like he knows where the net is.

Assume he's in PL21's to bascially get baselined v what we have intially playing there and decisions made from there.

Saw he came from same academy as Gozteppe bought their fella from who is one of their best players at the moment (name escapes me)

Kraft is no longer chairman, Ankersen never was. Both still on the board of Sport Republic.

In the league this season he has 63 minutes in 12 appearances, averaging about 5 minutes per game.
He has 50 minutes in 2 appearances in the Belgian Cup
Then about 6 appearances for the U23s.

According to BeSoccer, he got 12 goals in 23 games for Antwerp II in 23/24. Some sources say 12 in 21.

Appreciate it might not be the most inspiring signing of a disappointing deadline day, but this guy has actually scored goals in his career and has had very limited senior game time, hence him joining up with the U21s here.

Interesting story as well, same class/academy as Anthony Dennis who is doing great for Goztepe (apparently)

I actually think its been a bit of a disastrous window. We're down, so i'm not too bothered about who we did or didn't sign.. We've added a player to the squad in a position we didn't really need, but I'm more concerned that we've failed to ship out the deadwood and end the window with a big bloated squad still.

Posted

Considering his record last season, it's no surprise to learn a lot of clubs would look to bring him in.

SR are going to have to decide what manager and system they want going forward and try to stop lurching from one thing to another. Partly that's due to them looking for up and coming managers, which hasn't proved successful in PL, as well as recruitment and overall approach, not helping either.

AA could be a very useful player to have next season, under some systems and not great in others. SR have to decide what they are doing.

Yeah. I wasn't too disheartened to see some of the names linked away, but with nothing at the end.

This window has been about housekeeping and I'm ok with that given our position, i want enough cash on the books so we can unleash the dragan and get the players of talent we need to both get promoted and keep us there.

Looking at where we are, it would have been a herculean task to move on all the underperformers. After all, who would want them?

I thought Charlie Taylor would depart on loan. Maybe hes going to play left centre back?

If you cant get rid of an unwanted player now, as a cheap loan, us getting rid of that sort next summer on a permanent deal will be equally tough.

I wonder if he regrets taking too long to decide on the Hull move? From the Mission to Burnley documentary he appears to be a player that isn’t happy to sit on the bench and take his cheque.

It would have been good if Taylor, Fraser and ABK had gone out on loan too, but perhaps that will turn out to be a blessing

Probably didn't fancy a championship relegation thretened side. Watford have an small chance of the play offs and that seemed an option. He could end up playing for us on Saturday.
