I thought Juric might have waited until after this cup game to see what Edwards was like, but maybe he saw enough on the training pitch. Martin obviously didnt think he was ready. Hopefully he does well in the championship and then we can reap the rewards next summer - although there will still be lots of other CBs under contract.

Personally, I've not been as impressed with Wood as others so far. Some of the issues he had at Swansea seem to be there in terms of poor decision making when he has the ball - by that I mean putting teamates in deep shit with the wrong pass. Perhaps he needs more time to settle in and gain confidence - which may help him make better choices. That doesn't mean he won't be a good signing for us over the long term, but he makes me nervous. He does have the physical attributes, but I dont see any of our CBs as powerful dominating players. We saw how Awoniyo bullied ABK two seasons ago and I wonder how we will fair against him and Chris Wood in a week or two.

If I was ABKs agent, I'd be trying to find him a new home too.

Cup game or not, I don't think Edwards is really ready for top flight football at the moment. As you've said, a decent second half of the season with QPR will do him the world of good (as with Charles too).

I might have to go back on my words here a little about Woods, maybe it's more along the lines he's surprised me a fair bit as the feedback from Swansea fans wasn't exactly positive when it came to his all round game. He is another player who is still young and I think if he can improve on some of his play then he'll be a really good asset for us.

I can't see him even playing in that Forest game, he might get a run out against Swansea at the weekend but I think he'll be off soon enough and I don't blame him. Hopefully Bednarek takes the advice coming out of the Polish press and decides to move to France or Italy.

I appreciate it wasn't the point you were making but these posts really highlight how we've ended up with a squad of largely Championship players in the PL. Disastrous for this season but maybe signs of hope for next.

Not sure where to write this, but I guess here will do.

If ever there was a classic example of the malaise at our club, it is the Ronnie Edwards debacle.

Despite looking decent pre season, he was frozen out, then loaned out.

Now I read he had a great debut for QPR ...... as a bloody defensive midfielder. The one position his 'actual' team have really struggled with all season.

I knpw its a lower level but did no one think to try that.

Absolute arse

Ronnie Edwards is an anagram of Jack Stephens! Who knew?

Hope he gets some time as a CB and comes back able to help us next season. Strange signing since we didn't play him.

Yeah… weird as when he played he looked good and even better than Wood. Don’t really understand the management of him tbh.

I assume the club have just given up considering the lack of rumours?

They only met on Tuesday to discuss targets. It will probably be next Tuesday before somebody picks up the phone to another club.

In all seriousness, I would be surprised if we had any incomings. Would be content with a window where we sold Sulemana, Onuachu, KWP, Taylor and loaned out BBD

Blast from the summer for @Chez our mate Banza is banging in the goals for Trabzonspor got 11 so far this season, big Paul in total got 15 last season.

Interesting he went there in the end.

Yeah, 11 in 15 league games. Really not sure if goals in the Turkish league means a lot.
He went on loan. I think Trabzonspor paid a €2m loan fee for the pleasure.

Not sure he's good enough/physical enough to play on his own up front in the Prem, but he couldn't have been much worse than BBD, Archer, Armstrong and Onuachu. Maybe we offload Onuachu to Trabzonspor next summer and bring Banza here? The Championship might be a hard sell, but we have to try to find a striker that can make the leap from Championship to Prem. If not him, then someone else. Maybe break the bank getting Awoniyi from Forest? Yeah, that ain't happening either.

Could do with someone like Ballard!!!!!!! Oh yes, he is back, and has scored already tonight. Make that 2.

Still hopeful he can develop into a top player. The Blackpool loan didn't seem to go well terribly well if judged on goals, so not sure how far off he is being good enough for the Championship next year.

Desperately want him to succeed here; give him 6 months in the u21s with occasional first team forays and get him in the squad full time next season

Sounded like he wasn't utilised to his best at Blackpool under Bruce (shock, I knew that loan would go south once Critchley was out)

If you’re planning on spending it this window it might as well be chump change.

No. As I have said previously, I don't see any point in bringing anyone in this window. We are just too far adrift. £2m goes a lot further in the championship.

Championship signings can work, but like with many signings we've made, it's all about who you go for. Crystal Palace and West Ham have recruited from the second division well with Bowen, Olise, Eze and Wharton to name a few. Ipswich also signed a Championship super team. The top scorer in Szmodics, two that we were linked with, but reportedly outbid on in Delap and Clarke and then one of the centre-backs in the team of the year in Greaves, while we were going for Swansea and Peterborough centre-backs. Now signing Philogene also, who also looked decent in the Championship. If Ipswich go down, they're the best setup to go back up.

Yes, keep saying there are good players in lower leagues which we should be looking for now with a view to bringing them on in the summer.

Agree with Woodsaint, this is a window to sell. If Juric reckons there's 17/18 players he is interested in, there's a lot of players we need to find a new home.

Delap, Sara and Asprilla were possibly the championship guys to go for, but it's really hard to know if they will work out and perhaps just as importantly, almost immediately make an impact. Not sure Eze and Olise were amazing straight away for Palace.  Downes was tremendous for us last season. We really had to bring him back.

"For us [the FA Cup] is really important. We need the joy of playing good games. For us in this moment everything is important. I don’t want to rest [players]. I have 17, 18 players, maybe more, who are competitive. I just want to win the game and then after the game I’ll think about Manchester [United] and Tottenham."

Quoted this from the Southampton website. Got the impression he's going to put out a full strength team tomorrow.

Cheers. I misunderstood and thought it meant he wanted to sign 17 or 18 players!

I hope he does play his best side. We need to give it our best shot. I know everything is shit right now, but a favourable draw and a few wins could see us in the later rounds and then you can dream of repeating what Wigan did. When the skates were in the Prem and won cup games I hated it and was always worried the might get to Wembley.

Dont agree with that we need a defensive midfielder look what happened when Downes got injured or missed games. We do have Shea but it’s a long season and we need better than we have now in squad for that position.

Perhaps, but unless we sign some flair players in attack, this side might struggle for goals in the championship.

They are out of their depth in the Premier League but Armstrong, Brereton Díaz, Archer and even Stewart (in a small sample) have all been prolific in the Championship.

In Downes and Charles you've just listed two dms. Both are good enough for what we need to get out of the Championship. Ronnie Edwards can also play there and did so in the Championship this week. How many players per position are you saying we need?

We have a better squad than Luton, it might not appear that way but Martin's tactics destroyed any hope of staying up and now we are a lost cause due to being so far adrift a d devoid of confidence.

Based on the mood around the club after finishing on the lowest points tally ever recorded. Quality is important but so too is morale; if losing continues to be our habit, I don't see why we wouldn't fall away, even in a worse league.
